last year i avoided the internet for an entire day, and watched sportscenter the morning of the broadcast

sportscenter had the winner displayed in the bottom ticker. ******s.

Post in the thread titled "WARNING!!! WSOP SPOILERS. DON'T READ THIS THREAD IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW THE RESULTS!!!!!!!!!!!"

Also, anyone who doesn't want to know the results really shouldn't be browsing the poker-related forums on 2+2 before it airs.

The winner won't be known until early Tuesday morning, unless two players get knocked out when it's three-handed.

Thanks to Kevmath for this link. Essentially the 9 players convene on november 7th. There is an off day on the 8th. Then the heads up match occurs on the 9th.

Was this done last year?

Why give the players a full day off to plan heads up strategy?

Here are the relevant quotes from pokernewsdaily:

Resuming on November 7th will be the final table of the 2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event. The survivors will play down to two, who will return to the Rio on November 9th to determine a winner.

PND: Is having the heads-up match pan out three days later complicate anything logistically?

Horowitz: It’s a big challenge. We try to look at Saturday as if it’s a live event. Our coverage always deals with great storytelling. It’s all about how we got here and how players were eliminated. We have nine stars and every time someone goes away, it’s a huge story.

The big difference from last year to this year is that last year we had a two-hour window to show the final table. We knew going into heads-up play that a good portion of it would get cut. One thing that we wanted to do this year was feature more heads-up play. This year, we’re not creating an off-air time. Our plan is to show the final table from 9:00pm to 11:00pm ET on Tuesday, November 10th, but we’re prepared to go past 11:00 if the story dictates it.

No it wasn't done last year, I'm sure part of the reason is to help improve television coverage, which is noted in the article you quote.

Well, at least they plan to extend coverage if needed.

Last year's thread had 2,600+ posts and the most recognizable name was Chino Rheem. This year's thread will top that easily, even if Ivey is out in 9th.

It could possibly be a variety of people, mainly UB pros (who are sponsoring the video player of previous 2009 WSOP final tables) and David "The Maven" Chicotsky and his pals.

each player has the same amount of time to plan HU strategy, so it doesn't matter. If anything, it will reward the player who works the hardest.

So I guess youd like them to stop all the final tables at next years WSOP so the players can take a day off once they get heads up ....

it's gonna suck if there is ahuge chiplead going into heads up. imagine having to come back 2 days later when you have a 10-1 chip lead. might only last a few hands, better to just get it done on saturday then.

So they're taking a day off to help provide better HU coverage? If that's the case, then I'm all for it. TV Poker needs more HQ HU play.

Think about the last 2 WSOP Europe final tables that ran very long. If the players had a full day off once heads up; that could easily change the outcome.

I would love to see the chip leader bust the final two during three-handed

why so cranky, chainsaw?

He simply said "what's the big deal - it's fair to both players". How does that turn into "what a great idea - apply it everywhere!"
