So Justin's team has a deal with the Wetsuweten.

So now any other tribe that is watching your strategy must be block of the rails and get the government to negotiate.

I know he was between a rock and a hard place....

Its amazing with the blockades and the Corona Virus how he is MIA . Saw Chrsitian Freeland on The Westblock and she came pretty close to telling Mercedes to Shut Up and let me spin my bullshit

This is such a weird post, like so many of your "criticize trudeau at all times always" posts. This is an extremely complicated february. Certainly there is room to criticize one approach over another, although I have very little idea what the ideal approach is. But complaining that he is missing in action? Come on man, don't be that guy. It is abundantly clear that the PMO is extremely involved with their war rooms on these issues. Trudeau - correctly; to his credit; shame on harper for being so bad at this - tries to give his top deputies like Freeland the opportunity to go out and take meaningful leadership roles and have a government that is not 100% the personality of trudeau. But that doesn't mean he is missing in action.

Just a couple weeks ago you were trying to criticize him for aiming to secure a UN seat. But trudeau then cancels the barbados summit trip where he was going to try and secure a UN seat so that he would be here focusing on the crises....and you accuse him of being MIA? You bring up right here that, as you put it, "his team" made a deal that maybe you don't like the positioning of, but regardless, it is clear the PMO is not missing in action. Perhaps the only "action" you want is just the heavy handed Scheer style order the RCMP to physically force the end of the barricades while deriding them as needing to check their privilege?

I think its a fair comment I think we need to see him on TV assuring CDN's what he and his government are doing in regards to the Corona Virus and the blockades which are in the 4 th week . Did you miss my comment were I said he is stuck between a rock and a hard place

I just fear other tribes will employ the same strategy. Scheer's an idiot I have said that many times. Peter Mckay should do so much better.

As to Freeland I saw her on The West Block basically tell Mercedes to Shut up and let me spin this Teck thing. Which surprised me as she usually speaks well and amy be the next leader when Trudeau loses the next election

My brother is a big Trudeau fan along with a few friends and they agree he has looked very weak the last few weeks. Polls reflect it as well

uhhhh....he IS on TV. Here's two clips that TV is playing of him talking about it literally today: https://globalnews.ca/news/6622893/j...nt-in-halifax/
Why on earth do you think he is "MIA"? Likewise, coverage of his comments about bockades have been well publicized on TV.

Okay? "Looking weak" is such a bad take here, because it tends to get lobbed about when people show constraint. But constraint is often the correct approach. Sure, video on the news of RCMP storming the blockades gun blazing, refusing to negotiate or meet with first nations groups because we don't negotiate with terrorist right wing furor might seems "strong", but it is also the wrong call. Even today Trudeau mentioned on the blockades - and surely this made it on TV - calling of patience on the negotiations as the Wet'suwet'en people consider the agreement that was made. That might "look weak" to your brother. But it isn't obviously wrong. Reconcilliation DOES take constraint and tact and I'm happy if you want to argue that some approach of the team is not the most effective, but saying it looks weak is....weak.

Your right I did finally see him on TV today telling us to be patient.

Hopefully we hear soon what the deal is and when the blockades will come down. Sadly I see a rinse and repeat scenario with indigenous tribes. I hope I am wrong.

I will stick with my stance that he is a weak leader. He fooled me once into voting for him with all his promises but not again. Sadly I think he has divided this country.

I appreciate your comments what part of Canada do you reside in? Born In?

to late for what? We're not having a referendum here. As the government does all the time on all sorts of projects big and small, they are making a deal with a first nations group.

Deal on what though? They don't want the LNG project, LNG project has all the required permits. What kind of compromise can be made on an all or nothing "deal". Did Carolyn Bennett's speech after said deal give anyone any confidence while Chief Woos (who stole that title by the way) grinned ear to ear? The company I work for has 600 people employed by that project but who cares right, we need to have these 5 chiefs get their way

Not really. Canada has always been pretty divided. Even ignoring quebec, there has been western resentment of eastern political power for as long as I have lived. But then the west got a ****ing decade with harper riding in with massive support all across alberta, and now alberta is very opposed to trudeau. Big picture, how much of this is about trudeau? How much of it is about fundamentals, and alberta was going to hate on whoever it was that beat harper? Especially because the fundamentals of trudeau doctrine - as I keep mentioning ITT - are actually pretty damned favourable to alberta.

In truth, the politics of trudeau aims for the opposite of division. Consider doug ford, whose personality is to draw big lines in the sand between his friends and his enemies and go hard to the mat. Heck Kenney is practically running his media strategy on the idea of conflict with trudeau, half the time imagined in his own head. Trudeau thinks of himself as a unifier. He wants a grand bargain between climate and energy and economy and indigenous etc, much like Obama did. Republicans called Obama divisive too. His problem is that he can't actually accomplish these grand unifications. But the "he is dividing the country" as a sort of uniquely trudeau thing is more or less nonsense.

Presumably a deal that aims to get these crippling blockades that are ****ing the country to stop. We don't know the details, but actually doing something about the land acknowledge court cases from 20 years is definitely high on the asks. But "these 5 cheifs"....why say it so dismissively? As has been documented in several articles, these 5 chiefs have pretty broad backing within the wet'suwet'en people. The reason there is a bit of delay right now is that they are taking it back to decide as a nation.

I still don't know what you mean by "before it's too late". Too late to do what? What are you planning to do?
The "LOLCANADA" thread...again Quote

There is 13 hereditary chiefs so 5/13 is not even a majority of said chiefs. My concern is that they agree on X in two weeks time or whatever and part of that is for a shutdown of the LNG project. Where does that leave a $40Billion project that has gotten all the required approvals? When asked about the blockades coming down Chief Woos indicated that it was not for them to ask other Nations to take down blockades. They have been playing a game all along....in 2013 they cut off all communication with Coastal GasLink. Delay and dither is their playbook. Does anyone believe we will actually hear anything in that two week timeline, this will drag out for many weeks.

So what? They oppose a pipeline on their land. That seems like an entirely reasonable position to have. You are mad that they "dither" as part of their political strategy?

Are you talking past Prime Ministers or potential challengers? I do like Peter Mckay and thought Rona Ambrose had the best chance to beat Trudeau.

See I disagree to ignoring Quebec instead we have pandered to Quebec. Nothing in this country can change as Quebec will always veto. They do not want Alberta's dirty oil running through a pipeline through its province but have no issue taking all those equalization payments from the revenue that dirty oil generates

I agree with you on Kenney and never voted for him. It baffles me how he thinks its better to have the federal government collect the carbon tax instead of the province. I get he wants to fight it but keep the status quo till the supreme court rules. Kenney has fallen below 50% the problem was Rachael Notley thinks you can just keep putting things on your Capital One card and worry about it in the future

You keep saying Trudeau bought you a pipeline you should love him. No buying a pipeline was stupid. Plus it still hasn't been built. I do not want the Federal Government buying a 3.5 billion ( now 12.5 Billion) pipeline, subsidizing Bombardier, or the CBC .

As for Justin wanting to be a unifier and balance climate change and energy tough to do. Plus he has been in office 5 years and no plan. He has no chance of meeting the Paris Climate numbers not even close.

Alberta get's a ****ing decade with their guy at the helm and everyone is totally ok with it. Trudeau get's elected, entrenches most of the tax cuts of harper, and add two tranches of his own, and now omg we need to separate unless we get our laundry list of ****ing constitutional amendments passed. Hard to imagine, but the sniveling of albertans is really starting to get to quebec territories these days.

So weird particularly given that a priori you want the highest tax jurisdiction to be the one that wins the geographic resource lottery so they can make long term investments for future prosperity when the oil either runs out or, due to environmental concerns, is deemed better to just be left in the ground. They chose the opposite, and are now petulantly notching up the rhetoric to 110 about how horrible the rest of the country is to them.

Quebec is still the worst though. Nobody can ever take that crown away.

Yup as Alberta keeps paying for Quebec's social programs. Its not like Alberta shares any of that Oil revenue

Yet its Quebec whom has all the say but keeps electing a separatist party federally.

Alberta had a really bad day today with Oil. .
I love Canada and want to stay but be happy if Quebec left . I am not sure Id vote on separation though even if we did we could build all the tar sands plants we wanted but still have no access to market
