Is it clear they are ignoring them? The project has many controversial components, heck it isn't even clear it makes economic sense (it basically only works if price of oil is way up AND pipeline capacity AND partners all on board etc). It's a super complex issue, and I certainly don't envy the trudeau government decision with the aim to balance climate change, BC, alberta, economics, indigenous people, etc. I can see them both approving and disapproving it and definitely will anger large constituencies either way. It is a lose-lose politically. But it isn't clear to me they are ignoring their approval processes, why do you think that?
Reality is even if it is approved it may not get built. The companies projections were at $94 a barrel of oil. I get you need to balance climate change but you have not laid out any plans of how you are going to get there. How is Alberta to have a climate strategy for its resource sector when the federal government doesn't have one either other than net zero by 2050. The project has the full support of the indigenous groups in the area that border the project. It met all the requirements and consultations
Bottom line that was what my post was trying to say Trudeau cant win. I voted for him the first time but could not again for a multitude of reasons.
Reality is 1/2 the rigs in Alberta are now in Texas or the Dakotas and most of the laid off workers are as well. Investment capital has moved out of Alberta as well and they blame the uncertainty of project approvals.
I also do not believe we should keep bailing out Bombardier of fund the CBC for a billion a year.
Also that pipeline not built yet but I laugh at the fact BC having all the troubles with their provincial one.
Sadly for Alberta Trump is the last resort to get the Keystone XL built
