not gonna lie every now and then i get kinda down about my poker career and then i watch someone like sauce and get inspired

i really do love poker, i'll even just rail people on stars sometimes for fun, as much as i want to complain about how it's dying/whatever i could be working WAY harder and be making WAY more than i am now.

tired of making easy money, need to put my skills to the test.

thank you sauce, honestly one of the best stand up guys in poker today

Hey Sauce,

Cool podcast. I wouldn't worry about Doug. Seems like he's ready to hang it up. No 1 spot up for grabs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hYEXAxeE-BY

Sauce mentioned opinion polls vs political betting markets.

It's not really an either/or. Opinion polls, opinions on candidates and things confirmed by thinking about it are part of the "data" whereas sources synthesizing all that data include the talking heads on TV, the betting markets or just trying to do it yourself. Obviously betting markets > talking heads but anyway opinion polls feed into the betting markets.

The other thing about political betting is that there are no rules about insider trading. In UK politics Ed Miliband only became favourite to win the Labour leadership in 2010 after the count but before the official announcement. This time I backed Corbyn at 1.02 (i.e. 50-1 odds on favourite) during the same period just trading the move in odds - but generally watch out that the other side of the bet doesn't have more information than you.

Joey loved the second sauce pod, what a smart funny articulate guy!

[X] fan boy tick

Prahlad pod was hilarious too, my girl came in while he was rapping looking genuinely perturbed and said "how is this even about poker"

Always been ironic that doug is like the only guy who constantly tells people hes #1 at his variant, because HUNL has been dead for a couple years, and no one really seems to care or try to take his "spot".

Maybe it's not that "no one really seems to care or try to take his 'spot'" and it's that nobody has the balls to try. Nobody will deny that Sauce is one of the very best and Doug took him for over 40 stacks at 100/200 in 15k hands. Of course he demolished Isildur and others. If you watch his stream, you'll see him sit at 25/50 and see people instasitout if it's not 3h+.

I feel like I was just leveled though since it's such an absurd statement.

Really not sure whats absurd about it. I come from HUNL, it's a dead game, no one plays him at 25/50 HUNL because there really isnt much point in trying to be a world beater at it anymore, that and the rake is ridic on stars now. Do u think he'd be bailing on poker to twitch stream $100 to 10k, and make a youtube vid everyday if being the boss at HUNL meant a thing? I really doubt the best PLO or NLHE 6m guy will ever be a youtube star.

It matters for marketing reasons.
Obv on the top professional level no one cares about being HUNL endboss.. you could battle it out with playmoney or NL50. It just doesnt matter for your bankroll. I think he is clever using it in another format to create passiv income and to build a brand. In the long run this will return x-amount of $.. so in the end it being the king matters quite a bit .

Yeah, good on him for making the most of it. But when making the most his "crown" is using it primarily to market his youtube and coaching site, that basically reinforces my point. The guy is obv a boss nlhe player, and I begrudgingly love his youtube channel, it's just time to put the #1 HUNL talk to bed.

Bit late here but was watching the Charlie Carrel pod and heard him talking about how Pokerstars shuffling/randomizer whatever deals cards differently depending what decisions are taken at the table and so you shouldn't tilt if the runout hits your hand. Is this true? From looking at the Pokerstars website it would appear this is inaccurate.

Quote:
PokerStars deals the cards in a fair and honest manner. Once the deck is shuffled, it is set, and the order in which the cards are dealt cannot be changed.

I'm pretty sure stars have a set deck and full tilts randomness was formulated via the exact time you took to make a decision (unset deck so if you call pre at a different time flop is different).

I don't know why people think about that stuff. Seems a bit pointless to tilt at how randomness is generated.

Ben Sulsky looks like a different person in EVERY video and picture I have seen him in

Also regarding the small amount of woman in poker that you guys discussed. It is just the way it is and will always be.

From a marketing perspective, I think Doug putting his claim to the #1 HU title on the line has good upside but huge downside. If he accepted a challenge vs Sauce and won again, it would re-affirm his spot as the best and would be good publicity, but I don't know how much he would actually gain(except $).

If he were to lose the match to Sauce, he would have to stop saying he was number 1 in the world or have to work hard to re-claim the title. Either way it would be a hit to his image/marketing.

If he doesn't do a challenge, he can claim still to be #1 or at least say he was and doesn't get any action anymore or that he's investing too much time in his "brand" to stay at the top/battle. He will always be able to say he walked away as #1.

So it appears Doug doesn't have much incentive to play Sauce, and I would bet we do not see a challenge and Doug rides off into a Social Media Sunset.
