Why are they not bringing in more dealers/holding dealers for OT while this is going on??
You would figure they'd wanna keep both tournies/cash games going... They didn't even HAVE a 7pm tourney last nite, and It took an hour @ 3 o'clock to open a new 1/2 game w/ 18 people on the list b/c they had no one to deal it...
They actually did hire more dealers in the past few months, but even so, we're still understaffed as far as having the highest BBJ in town. They are holding quite a few of us OT and a lot of the dayshift dealers are putting in 12+ hour days everyday. Us grave dealers are actually the lucky ones that aren't doing as much OT because the games break down at around 6-7AM, so we actually only do maybe 1 or 2 hours OT at the most.

When they hired new dealers, I doubt they expected the BBJ to get this high, that's for sure. Now it's just making sure the room gets staffed as well as possible while also making sure not to burn all of us out.. plus the fact that they have to make sure the dealers that aren't full-time don't average too many hours or they could be forced to promote them.

It's all good. I do remember that and I didn't take offense to it. I know how it is to run bad against one villain and let my emotions get the best of me. I've had a lot worse reactions against me while in the box, so we're cool.

I'm suprised Harrah's doesn't employ some dealers under a Harrah's dealer entity and transfer them from casino to casino in AC. It seems like Bally's was understaffed when their bad beat was very high and now Showboat is suffering the same issue.... hmmm or maybe this is a great business oppurtunity to start a dealer staffing agency in AC. Casino's would employ the dealers as temps to work when the room is busy and I think everyone would benefit. The casino's would earn more money (more tables more money) and I'm sure there are dealers in the area that are currently out of work with the recession who wouldn't mind picking up some hours at various casinos with the chance that maybe this could lead to a full time position.

I am planning to come for the weekend. I'll be there late Friday and Saturday. Is the bad beat jackpot causing long lines for 1-2 NL at most hours? I am sure it's great for the Showboat room.

Yeah the lines have been long. It fluctuates a lot, of course, but typically there are 20-30 name lists. They've moved fairly quickly and they open new games whenever they can. I'm pretty sure I never had to wait longer than 10-15 minutes even at their longest, but to be honest I wasn't really counting.

I'm trying to remember this hand to see if we were playing together. What table were you at?

14 hours yesterday. 25 hours in 2 days. I got out at 1am and the room is the busiest I've ever seen for that time by far. Probably like 20-23 games still going. I can't imagine how the weekend is going to be.

yeah, i'm usually good about not getting steamed, but i felt off for a few hours, and i should have called it a night much sooner. figured i'd leave before i lost my buy-in. lost with one set when a flush got there, and another when straight was flopped as well. also lost a hand when i flopped a flush with small suited connectors and had the 3rd best hand. guess i should be happy i didn't get stacked in any of those. thanks for accepting the apology!

it was $1/2NL. i think it was table 6 (but i'm not 100% sure on that), seat 8. i have black hair and was wearing a green w/ white stripe american eagle polo.

If you are planning to come down late Friday, you should be OK, although pretty much every table in the room will be occupied with cash games. Last night I went in at 1AM and there were still 25 cash games (we only have 28 tables..) There were no lists at that point and it was open seating. Most games had 8 or 9 players, with a few of them filling up as other tables broke down.

The worst time to come in during the high BBJ is probably 11AM-2PM (at least from what I am hearing.) The room is just starting to pick up at that point and the 11AM tourney is running, so even though there is a big dealer shift starting at 11AM and 2PM, some of them are being used for starting tourney tables, thus creating longer lists.

Although hiring more would help, the issue we have now is that there just isn't enough room to open more games. Last night we had every game in the place running, so it wouldn't matter if we had more dealers since we wouldn't have any tables to put them at. The one thing that hiring would do though would be to relieve the OT we are doing. It's mixed reactions from what I have heard though.. some are tired of the long hours, but some are loving every minute of it.

As for casino transfers to help out, they do that for circuit events. They work around our schedules at Showboat if we want to work at the circuit events at Caesar's or Harrah's and we pretty much are a lock to get hired since we already work for the company. They don't allow transfers to other properties for cash games though. They do this to prevent mass quantities of dealers leaving a house that they don't make much money to transfer to one that they make a lot of money.

No problem! Like I said, I didn't take it personally, nor did I feel that you were throwing the cards at me. It was just a hard muck, and that happens all the time on some of the beats that I deliver. I've had some interesting situations in the past though... One time a guy starting calling me, my wife, and my mother every name in the book while pointing his finger in my face. He was tossed obviously.. I've had cards, napkins, and chips thrown at me.

In the old room, one guy who was really drunk had to be carried out of the room by security. He berated me my whole down and I ended up nearly stacking him (he had $2 left after he called an all-in.) He ended up throwing the remaining $2 at me, one of them hitting my glasses, the other hitting my chest. I proceeded to pick them up and drop them in my toke box. He looked at me and said "what the f--- do you think you're doing sh--head??" I told him that I thought that was my tip for putting up with the abuse he dished out at me. When he got even more mad, security finally came over and tried to remove him. He said he wasn't leaving without his $2. My pitboss actually defended me stating "You assault my dealer with those two chips and you're asking for them back? You're lucky he doesn't want to press assault charges on you..." He pretty much let it go at that point.

Now that I think about it, with all the violence in the casinos the past few years, it probably wasn't a good idea to egg that guy on...

awesome story. best way to handle it in your situation.

one thing i never do is take my frustration out on the dealer. it's not his fault that i play bad. i know there's enough **** you have to put up with, so i don't want to add to that.

When I used to get paid for overtime my bosses had to tell me to quit taking so much (this was not at a casino, just my regular job)
