Do you play many events or select few? Mostly mixed games?

Man after playing Capitol on Tuesday with Chris Moneymaker coming and sitting in the game I thought it would have gotten a mention. Ended up being the most personable tv poker personality that I have gotten to play with.

My list is not super long with the tv poker stars: Sam Grizzle, Jerry Yang, Iceman, Jamie Gold and a few Asians who's names I am blanking that got a decent amount of exposure on WPT that play the bay.

While I still get a little excited to tell friends I held my own vs a player they have seen on tv, I definitely don't even sweat how to change my game due to their play.

Hopefully I don't get hated on to much for this post as a fanboy. Love how active the poker community is in Sacramento even though it is a smaller venue the bay area or so cal.

Another Capitol Casino Omaha cash game regular, E. Schwartz a.k.a. "Armas", also cashed in the 1500 Omaha High/Low, finishing 68th.

I saw "Armas" and his wife at the Rio on Friday and at the Orleans on Saturday.

Hello Sacramento.

Can someone please let me know which decent poker room is closest to the airport and whether it has a hotel? Looks like maybe Capitol? Need to be in Stockton on business next week and flying home from Sacramento early the next morning. Might as well get a session in.

Thanks!

Josh

Hey Josh,

Don't know what you're game / limits are or what you're rating is for "decent", but you have some options for casino's within driving distance of Sac Airport - 1) Cap 15 mins (hotel downtown), 2) Thunder Valley 30 mins (hotel in casino or surrounding), 3) Stones 20 mins (surrounding).

Also, if you're in Stockton - you could check out Turlock, Manteca, and Lodi.

All of these you can find on google maps and distances.

I know summer is always slow and poker everywhere in sac has been hit or miss for the last month but Thunder Valley is really a dying room for cash. Especially at 2/5 or higher. I don't have a great suggestion offhand but they need to do something. Maybe a decent promotion, maybe hire staff designed to promote action (props may not be allowed but at least a host wouldn't hurt).

That room is too nice and too well positioned to let it flounder like this, Sac poker scene really needs it to be a destination again.

It seems a lot of people are quick to light up TVCR for every little thing (not the above post)- and yet they do a lot of little things right. A game for everyone most weekends, from 3-6 to 5/10nl. O8 and Horse MTT on Wednesday, lots of attractive named series come to town.

Am wondering if the elephant in the room is the impact Stones is having on them. Pretty regular games at Stones daily, weekends, and steady numbers in the daily MTTs.
Competition is almost always good for the customer, until the competition kills off another.

Could also be that Sacramento is a relatively small/poor market with way too many casinos/poker rooms in it.

I haven't lived there since 2011 and it sucked then so can't imagine it's gotten any better.

Thunder is essentially a Friday/Saturday room for cash games. I wouldn't bother going there for cash games the rest of the week.

The tourneys at Thunder take out too much juice (up to 25% for small tourneys). During the month of June, you are better off going to Reno (or Vegas) with your laptop in order to play online at WSOP.com.

He knows that. He's saying that even the weekend games aren't worth a **** anymore.
