Venetian would be a great place for poker and they know it, but LVS simply isn't spending any money right now. MGM is broke, so no poker for them. Besides, with 25-30 cash tables in Macau, most of which are empty except for peak hours, I don't think there's any more demand for poker at the moment.

The new place is quite nice and clean, but attracting new players will be difficult. That said, you never know what kind of crazy baccarat player will show up at these Chinese casinos. It's probably worth going to a few times just to get a feel for it.

When Starworld was up and running they provided the biggest fish by far.

Are you still allowed to smoke at the tables in Macau?

Most of the places I went into had no smoking areas and smoking areas. You can definately smoke in Sands. I didn't play poker this time anywhere so I'm not sure about the poker rooms.

played at the Asian Poker Tour earlier, they don't allow smoking in the tournament area. they're on the 12th level and i was told they'd be moving down to the ballroom on the 17th. good line up of games. appt is about to open up also. looks like a very good field of players are gonna be here.

No idea how they ever attracted players in the first place tbh. with the room so hidden that virtually no walk in traffic could get there.

While starworld looks nice from the outside, the inside is an architectural nightmare imo.

Is Starworld offering any cash games now after APT?

How about beer/snacks at Lisboa, Wynn, Starworld? Free perhaps, or if need to pay how much $$$?

I heard a rumour that Starworld is/has closed down its poker operation, haven't checked it out for myself as yet though so not sure if it's true or not.

House beer (Carlsberg I believe) and some Chinese style snacks free while playing cash games at Grand Lisboa.

when i was in starworld for the apt about 3 weeks ago, the cash game room was in operation. there were dealers sitting down at totally empty tables

checked back about 5 times during the week and saw the exact same thing

makes me wonder why when there is a super long queue at the wynn just next door

Probably because that room is in the least friendly place ever. You have to go up an intimidating escalator of doom. Then, the place is totally silent, like a morgue. It feels like being a black plague carrier as you are shunned by the rest of society and go to your sequestered cave.

just got back from three weeks grinding poker daily in Macau. Basically, the two rooms with poker are Grand Lisboa and the Wynn. Games were better at the Grand Lisboa, and plentiful up to 50/100 NL every night during the tournaments, and when the tournaments finished a 50/100 game was running for a few hours, then 30/50 was the highest limit they ran.
Grand LIsboa was softer than the Wynn, but both games were really good, with a ton of huge fish.

Wynn had games up to $200/$400 HKD running every night, and had a $3000/$6000 and a $500/1000 game running about half the tiome I was there, which seemed to actually be really soft games.

Rake is capped at 100 HKD for 10/20 at Lisboa, but the rest of the games are capped at 5% rake 200 HKD max. Half rake for 5 or less players.

PLO is illegal in Macau, so no casinos will run any PLO games for at least another year or so.

Games were soft, tournaments were very soft, and its fairly easy to start a table if your willing to wait 30 minutes or so. A lot of taggy preflop live players who see cheap flops then go berserk postflop and love to bluff with marginal hands that could ship at showdown, lot of bluff raising 3rd pair when flushes miss etc. from the regs.

The fish were super loose and cally, didnt like to ever fold. Had one guy 3x pot donk into me, then snap jam 300 BBs deep over my raise without ever looking at his cards, even before he mucked.

Dealers were pretty slow and not very good over all, but nothing too bad.

Would go again.

Theres a strange quirk about Macau poker, the higher the limits, the softer the game.

Is it possible to use PokerStars account to register for tournaments at PokerStars Macau poker room (Grand Lisboa)? If so, how does that work? Do they have computer at the poker room, where i can log in, or do i need to access my PokerStars account somewhere else?

Also how do they confirm that its really me who has registered from PokerStars account?

Yes, you can use your online PokerStars account to register for tournaments at PokerStars Macau (goto Events Tab --> Macau). You will need to access a computer from your home or hotel to register as there is no public computer in the poker room.

Confirmation by passport or valid picture ID.

Here's the weekly tournament schedule:

Hi everyone ! After reading this entire thread the last few days and playing in the GL myself, I thougt I'd contribute and I also have some questions.

1) I'm this thread a lot of posters either talk about all those juicy games filled with whales or they post how nitty and full of regs they are. Which is true ? Am I right in assuming that it depends on the day of the week and the time of day ? The floorguy said the weekends are better. Any thoughts on this ?

2) How do I play those regs ? They all know eachother and they play as far as I can tell, pretty solid except too tight. I guess it's working for them or they wouldnt do it... But how can I exploit it ? I know I should probably loosen up but I'm to afraid of loosing my stack as my bankroll is pretty small. Any specific tips ?

I've noticed some of those guys are actually pretty good. I saw one guy changing gears from seemingly MANIACAL to very TAG and making a few vey good folds. They definitly put presure on when they see weekness, and they have very big stacks.

A little bit more about me : I'm a dutch guy who recently moved to Macau to live with my GF who is Chinese...I'm a decent online sng player but have only a few hours live cashgame experience. I don't know anybody in this city yet so I'd love to meet up with any 2+2'ers here. Maybe someone can show me around or school me a bit in how to beat the 10/20. I would love to see a little demonstration ! pm me.

Not worth trying to exploit regs, you can't overcome the rake
(This is for 10/20 and 25/50, probably different at 50/100+)

Disagree. There r several types of regs

local chinese : average players maybe 3 good ones

japanese : good winning players.

korean : average to bad with 1 or 2 good

us : good winning players usually TAGs

europe : LAGs

singapore : stay far away from them

china : calling stations....ATM

For the nit brigade by regs I mean "break-even or winning regulars" and not the regular donators

I take it you are one of the singaporan regulars then? And if I should stay away from them, why ? And how do I tell them apart from the other Asian dudes ? I can hear the difference between Cantonese Manderin Japanese etc but what do Singapoor people look like and sound like ? They like to end there sentences with "la", no ?

Not all euros are LAG btw. I'm certainly not. Nor is my Portuguese pall.

What do you look like ?

And do you have any good tips on how to handle the 10/20 tables when a few fish sit down ?

The Singaporeans are generally underweight douchebags and are pretty easy to distinguish. Japanese are easy, they speak a different language. Koreans are easy, they speak a different language also. You can tell them apart from Japanese because they will drink an entire bottle of vodka after a bad beat and then AIPF every hand.

j/k

"Hi, how are you?"
"So where are you from?"

Try to isolate the fish when you see they have interest in playing a pot.

Sorry for asking a beginners question but :what does isolation mean ? I asume that means getting the regulars out of a pot to get chips from the callingstations.

Can anyone give me an example of a way to do
this ?

This is done preflop, right ?
