MCC has the reputation of having the most action, and the busiest room. Every time I go there I end up getting seated close to the slot machines to start the session and end up smelling like an ashtray when I leave But the floors and dealers are OK-passable, and with a lot of games running you should be able to hop tables and get on a good one.

MGM has a very nice room, tables, chairs, etc. It's up on the third floor and a little hard to find, which reduces the walk in traffic, but there's zero smoke up there. It's also next to a nightclub so it is LOUD on Friday nights. Most of the dealers are pretty good, a couple are typical Detroit awful. Half the floor guys are really good, the other half are "meh". The room seems to have been slowly dieing over the past year or so. Rather than have a full 9 tables on the weekend, they're down to 6-7 on Fri, and 4-6 on Sunday.

GT seems to have the most drunken spewtards every time I go there, creating lots of crazy spots. Although I admit I tend to go there when I'm also headed to or from the Joe for a Wings game, so my sample may be biased by the people getting off the tram. The dealers are the worst that I've seen in town, slow, misread the board, just awful. I've never had a floor ruling at my table that was bad, ... but there's a whole thread about them (search AKJQT's threads in M&B).

Caesars in Windsor has a nice open room, pretty quick dealers, and OK floors. They have the stupid small-small-big, small-big-big rule there. The entire casino is non-smoking (big + for me), and you can bet sports parlays downstairs if you want. You'll burn tolls each direction, and a few % when changing your money back and forth. If you're planning on going often you should just keep some $$$ in canadian.

The assorted charity rooms are kind of hit or miss. Sometimes the games are deep and crazy with lots of action, but other times you've got one game going with a bunch of nitty regs. Almost all of the dealers are good (keeping your own tips will do that). Far warning, the last half hour before they close at 2am can get crazy with people trying to get un-stuck. Since these places are in bars, keep your head up going in or out with large piles of cash.

Hollywood in Toledo is a nice casino, easy access from the highway, blah blah blah. All non-smoking, all brand new. The poker room is nice and big, with lots of tables going every time I've been down there (can check with the Bravo app). Half the dealers were charity dealers up here and are fast, the other half are new hires and still learning. I've seen a one really awful floor ruling and two good ones all from the same guy. The action has been pretty good down there, a nice mix of weak/passives and aggro spewtards. Depending on where you live the drive may be prohibitively long, from Ann Arbor it's only 5-10 more minutes than driving to MGM/MCC, but if you're north of 94 it'll be a much bigger difference.

All that being said, I personally like MGM's room, so I play there about once a week. Then Hollywood once a week, and a charity room once or twice a week.
helluva post. only thing I have to add is that MGM and Greektown are closing at I think 2am during the week. I also heard a rumor from a dealer that one of the poker rooms was closing and she wondered if I knew which one? It was the first I heard of it. Anyone else?

how about this. instead of instashoving, look up at the clock with a pained expression, ask the dealer when the next break is, count your chips out, and say "i guess i'm all in."

Thanks

I haven't heard about any of them shutting down completely. I've been told that MGM + GT shut down from 6am to 10am during the week, but I've yet to be at either when it happens. (Although I can't expect the game to be very good at 7am on a Wednesday).

Something like that sounds like the players suck.

Anyway, at mcc you have 4 1/2, 2 2/5, 2 5/10, 2 15/30 rxr, and about 100 people on waiting lists.

End of month drawings being the cause. Nick says it'll thin out soon if you're thinking of coming down.

well i would think that after 10 tournaments, one of the better players would end up representing the group in the ME. as long as the points system makes sense, i haven't seen it...

If this is the kind of league where points roll over from one week to the next, I would def not join.

Once someone has no shot to win the prize they lose all the motivation to finish out the league and there by stops showing up and paying every week.

Made another final table and cash today. Small tourney. 57 runners. Finished 6th for $70.

Couple highlights:
Hero has 65k, villian has 75k - Blinds are 1k2k
Hero UTG+1 makes it 5500 to go and villain calls on the button.

Flop is JJ8cc. Hero bets out 6k. Villain makes it 15k. I really don't think he's raising here with a J and decide to shove with KKcs. Villain takes for about 3 mins. Keeps asking me questions and I just keep staring through my shades. Finally he folds KJ convinced I have AJ or 88. Asked him if he wanted to see and he said yes after saying he didn't think so. Didn't put him on tilt as much as I had hoped..

Later we are down to 13 players right after break. Same hero/villain. Hero raises UTG+1 with AKo. Villain calls on the button again with KQo. Flop is KQT. I bet out for 15k and he shoves for 32k. I call and turn the J. (gotta get lucky once in a while).

Get to the final table and CL limps in for 10k, I make it 35k with AKs. He calls and calls and calls my triple barrel with 2nd pair on a QJ2cc flop. This knocked me down to 7BB. I make a few moves and get back around 10BB then shove my AQ UTG into his AA to go out 6th.

I think I'm now making some good reads and getting 1 lucky hand a tourney. Outside of that, I'm winning hands I'm supposed to when it gets all in.

Going to try to keep the #rungood going on Friday night. I expect the structure to change again out there since they were forced to chop at 2am with 5 left. They had 157 runners and was paying out 1800 for first.

Nice run man. I gotta agree, you have to get lucky sometimes when you get your chips in bad. Which Friday tournament are you talking about here?

And for those interested, I talked to my buddy who played the NVD 6max yesterday (I couldn't make it this week) and he said there were 71 runners this time. That's at least 2 more tables than the week before. Seems to be picking up steam.

Would love to have a Detroit thread trip so im sounding off the horns early so you can prepare. I already have my pop bottle fund setup to pay for my flight. So get your wives/gf permission, bring along a friend, get cleared by your doctor or have a note signed by your parent. I want to set more records for money lost in an O8 4/8 game, come out for the show
Count me in for more epic 4/8 donations, over-tipping dealers/waitresses only to watch the 80 yr old regulars cringe, and of course serenading random females after 15 beers and 15 shots.

If I was to play I'd rather have all 20 people pony up the 1k in advance. These things have people that give up near the end and they don't pay. I imagine its two 10k seats, one for the points leader and one for the winner of a tournament at the end, with bigger chipstacks going to the higher points finishers???

Personally I say save the 1k, and fly out to Vegas and play a $550 sat during the WSOP. You'll have more fun busting out in Vegas then busting out downriver.

I really wish I had my buddy taking video of that table.

I plan on making a post about the superbowl trip the first day of each month with the list of people who are in and are maybes.

it only pays one ME spot. the rest of the $ goes to prizes in the monthly tourneys. very good points about people dropping out... i know that it went off this past year, they sent a guy to the ME. maybe they do pay in advance. i will def. get all the details before doing it.

snookers friday night? $50 buyin? hmmmmm

Honestly, probably not. Might need a poker sabbatical for a little bit. This is an expensive week for me. I have the pleasure of going to get a root canal today and am likely buying a new car tomorrow, so.... bye bye poker funds. Though, I'm in the process of cutting down my smoking with the intention of quitting so that will help the 'ol pocketbook.
