Have any of you seen the mini-series adaptaption of The Stand? How do you think it compares to Walking Dead so far? I know The Stand doesn't have zombies, but there are similar post-apocalyptic themes. I remember liking the mini-series, but its been 15 years since I've seen it, and I wasn't a critical viewer at the time.

Spoiler:
M-O-O-N, that spells zombies

Yeah, by far the dumbest thing in the last episode was how casually they milled about the front door that's clearly giving way, just pissing off the zombies even more.

ya that scene really annoyed me

I think the logic supposedly was that "they're keeping an eye on the zombies' progress to know if/when they break through." But that could have been done much more covertly. Also, they should have done a little barricading, maybe?

Still enjoying the heck out of it.

In the nit fest has anyone mentioned getting the tank radio with a walkie talkie, is that possible?

I don't mean this as a nit, I just honestly dont know....

Do soldiers really carry frag grenades like the one he found? Or are they in tanks? I realize you could explain this by saying the dude grabbed one for the Zpocalypse, and that's fine. I'm just wondering if in reality, if soldiers ever actually carry grenades when not specifically out at a war. I'm guessing no?

Again, not a nit Q, just a real question.

Also, I'm enjoying this so far. I kind of hope we start getting some darker tones to the show. Too much daylight and such. It's still creating tension (like them walking down the street), but everyone knows night time is the fright time. They did that pretty well in the opening episode I thought.

Is it even possible that there could be a virus that that could turn someone into a zombie and/or hell be full up so the dead have to walk the Earth?

Dont know for sure, but I have my doubts.

/Nit.

Nit quota full. Now we can talk about how awesome the show is and how we have a legit full blown zombie show for the next three years.

Loved it when I was 12, rewatched it the other month (now in my late twenties) and hated it, awesome spoiler

Love the show, but I would have preferred a different lead guy. Cole Hauser would have killed this role. For some reason, he's one of my favorites. I'll grant you he apparently doesn't have much range, but the show, as good as it is, is infinitely better with him as the cop. Tell me someone agrees?

Actually I think Timothy Olyphant should've passed on Justified and taken this role instead.
He would've killed it imo...

fwiw thats really the only thing ive had a problem with so far. first 2 eps have been great

Tried not to get high expectations for this. Was big fan of jericho and that show turned out terrible. Fear the same here. I would rather have it focus on the zombie impact rather than side stories. I imagine that is inevitable though in these situations that side stories always prevail.

So far enjoying show for what it is. I don't expect much (comparing it to a low grade zombie movie) so I'm enjoying.

Those of you expecting this to revolutionize the genre will likely be dissapointed. I don't expect anything new from this.

Also I am planning to watch the stand so won't read spoiler.

It seems like a key part of the Zombie world they're in is that you can run away from a Zombie pretty easily. They're only a problem with you're surrounded by a horde- so in theory they have plenty of time to get away.

Lol at asking if you can radio a tank and if soldiers carry grenades whilst defending cities from marauding zombies.

Only nits ponder the realism in a zombie apocalypse show

Dids is also right about zombie attacks, it's not like they can spring on you out of nowhere. They are slow and only effective in mass hordes, meaning you can hole up in a joint watching them until there is clear and present danger

That's true - but it does bring up a follow-up question: why are there so few people left?

(not that I care or think it in any way diminishes the show)

As a whole I would say that people are dumb and they probably succumbed to Darwinism.

Yeah, and if we're also assuming that in the world of The Walking Dead, there have been no zombie movies or tv shows or anything, then a large % of people would probably have been infected really early. They may not have known how the disease was passed from one to another. Also, (I'm not sure about the show but), in the comic, you were allowed to be bitten/exposed to the undead, so the zombie "disease" itself wasn't lethal (as long as you didn't get infected by some other disease), so everyone is a passive carrier of the zombie. Given this fact, people would have their guard more or less lowered when people ended up surviving or taking a long time to die etc.

I was being serious. Sorry Phill. I feel like that would be pretty low on the list of items to carry for a soldier. I don't know.

Ep1. There is a compound everyone is told is safe. They all travelled there. They got overrun. Rinse and repeat all over the country, at least from what we know right now.

Once the number of walkers reaches a certain number they would basically balloon into virtually the entire human race id assume.

Grenades would be issued. They arent the perfect weapon, but they do have an effect that is better than nothing.

Keep in mind that as he walked out of the hospital in ep1 there were lined up bodies from those the military took out in the early days whilst trying to contain it.

They would have been supplied with grenades and other warzone weaponry really really quickly as it changed from small scale search and destroy containment to defence and fighting for survival. That unit was defending the green zone of survivors presumably.

Fwiw the better question is how zombies managed to overcome a tank unit.

I don't think it's that farfetched. The tank's eventually going to run out of gas and the crew will have to flee.
