people also get poisoned. My point is, of the group of survivors, what are the chances that someone is even capable of identifying wild mushrooms? This is not a common hobby in America. The risk reward ratio isn't there, mushrooms have like no calories.

100%, they basically said someone was in the scene when she came back with them.

Well, yes. It does. It specifically does indicate someone called Shane knows and its a sure thing.

it indicates someone called Shane may know, it doesn't give any indication about how much he knows about wild mushrooms. Well, I can see that this will never end. No, Phil, you are right, that dialog 100% conclusively indicates that Shane can determine with 100% accuracy if the mushrooms are poisonous. It is also worth the risk of the group for 100 calories. You win the internet.

1) Shut up about mushrooms

2) The "only one way to be sure" line is a sarcastic reference to eating them and seeing if you get sick, not that Shane was some kind of Oracle. It is weird that they'd be picking wild food only a few weeks after the apocalypse there'd be enough canned **** in a single Walmart to last for years. Going out alone is also dumb but set up the sex scene, just sloppy writing.

the spores are legal, growing (and possessing) them is the big F everywhere but like Arizona I think (and still a crime federally I'm sure)

thus ends the shroom discussion imo

I used to grow them in a box in my closet. Little buggers are sensitive to germs though. Not an easy thing to do so I gave it up. Did have some great batches though

I agree, Dolph Lundgren would be way better. Dolph nose how to kill zombies!

Dolph's never killed a zombie iirc. Just nitpicking

I dont think it is that simple.

Say in the initial zombie alpha strike you end up with a million zombies in 5 major urban areas and significant infections in other areas.

To stomp this, the army must mobilize and form a logistic train for a scenario it will have no standing orders for. Killing 5 million zombies+(In a distributed area) is going to take a lot of resources. Meanwhile, whilst this is being sorted out, zombie numbers will be growing and growing. Then their will be an extended period of delay as their is debate about going to live fire in areas still presumable inhabited with significant amounts of civilians.

By now the zombie problem may well be beyond the capability of the American army to deal with in short fashion as the problem is so widespread causing severe logistical problems, in that their is no front, how does one allocate forces and the recourses to supply those forces thereby, armies still march on their stomachs and their gas tanks. If the zombies have managed to **** with the supply system in any way, this becomes more complicated.

I think in the long run bullets to the head would prevail, but that run would be a marathon not a sprint.

Awesome show so far - the only dissapointing part is that the first season only has 6 episodes.

This is an example of a bad post that will get deleted (but I'm quoting it here as an example). Nothing bad will happen to the posters unless they insist on doing it repeatedly.

Again, this is a forum for talking about TV. If you do not like talking about TV, go away. If you do not like how some specific posters post, ignore them. If it takes way from your enjoyment of the show to hear people discuss it, get smarter.

The zombies are getting smarter/faster right?
The Walking Dead Quote
11-12-2010 , 03:31 PM
it certainly seems like the zombies are getting smarter. in the pilot the blacks seemed to be fine just hanging out in a normal house, even when the ex-wife/zombie had a suspicioun they were in there, all she did was paw at the door and ignored the windows, etc

in this episode they were using rocks to smash through the glass doors

They keep some instinctual memory from life. They might be able to use basic tools and machines here and there, but i wouldnt assume they are getting smarter. The little girl picked up the toy rabbit because that is what she did in life, the mother tried to go back to the house she died in where her family was, the guy with the rock remember rocks break stuff. Or summit.

As for getting faster they had just had horse for lunch and after feeding they move faster.

Both of these things were posted earlier in the thread as part of rules for the show that were on the network's website.

Isn't the theory the plot puts forth (which I don't really think is consistent with "the blacks") that this is about noise as well.

Basically they knew that people were in the store, and were drawn there by noise and then could see them so tried to get in whereas they didn't know people were in the black house.

This is one of those things that to some people is nittery, and to others is "caring about good writing" but I hope the show manages to stay reasonably consistent in how the zombies behave. Bad guys whose ability varies with plot necessity are bad times imo.

I would have to rewatch, but I thought zombie mom, at least partially, suspected there were people inside. didn't she see something?

or did she just come up to the house purely b/c of some deep memory?

From what I can recall, I really don't think we know. I assume more the memory thing.
