Agree with The Office. But when it starts sucking, feel free to stop. It doesn't get any better.

just finished veronica mars. 1st season was very good, second season ok, and third was super meh.

the third was ruined by fear of cancellation really. They couldnt have a proper season long arc because they didnt know how many episodes they had.

Yeah. I loved the first season of VM, liked the second a whole lot, and still enjoyed the third. But clearly the issues with the mystery arcs and the addition of Piz didn't do the show any favors. Oh well. Still worth watching all the way through, IMO.

Yeah, I watched VM all the way through and didn't really stop to reflect on the drop in quality until later. It's easy to be entertained by the mysteries even when the quality of the show drops.

Going back of course, it's obvious that the drop happens, and that S3 is missing many of the notable characters of previous seasons as well as the class conflicts (which were huge in S1).

Without being crass, I also think the show went to the rape well a little too often. Like every time they wanted to add gravitas to an event (or almost literally any time Veronica attended a party) someone would be drugged and raped. Hearst College apparently is the per-capita rape capital of America.

In fairness to the writers, I think a lot of people would rape Kristen Bell.

You don't hear this phrase very often, but it made me laugh.

Watching the original Battlestar Galactica on NFI, this show was pretty amazing for '78.

-Studio 60 on the Sunset
Studio 60 first, both because it's awesome and because it's only 1 season.

Anyone have any strong feelings about which one I should be viewing first...

- Mad Men
- Six Feet Under
- Sopranos

These are pretty much the 3 shows that are usually thrown into the GOAT TV conversation that I haven't seen.

Loved The Wire, Breaking Bad and Dexter(except s5) fwiw

For me, SFU > Mad Men, but that's probably a minority opinion. Both are excellent- you should probably take into account the fact that Mad Men is still on the air, so you might want to catch up on that one before the new season (though it doesn't start until next March).

I haven't seen past the first few episodes of Sopranos, so I can't comment on that. I probably need to fix that.

Sopranos by far. Although, be warned, anything you watch after the Sopranos will never...ever...compare. So, in a way, it could ruin the rest of your t.v. watching life.

I think I watched like 2 or 3 eps of The Sopranos before quitting, and then maybe another 4-5 eps (a few months later) before quitting again. When does the show get good?

Episode 1.

Jstunna, I would see the 1st season through, marathon style if possible. Don't let the old look of the 1st season turn you off if you care about that sort of thing, keep in mind the show started in 1999. Things begin to look much more modern and polished in the 3rd season aesthetically speaking.

The show develops their characters like no other and future episodes reward viewers of previous episodes. I've never met anyone that didn't end up loving it and the fact that it's widely considered the top series of all time (along with the Wire) is enough to give it the old college try. Of course it's entirely possible that it's just not your style but I'm not familiar with what your current tastes are.

A question to those who have seen Lost beginning to end. I've heard rumblings of the writers going spastic at some point. I'm almost done with season 1 and it's safe to say I'm addicted but there are still many eye roll inducing parts/characters for me. Claire (the pregnant girl) may be the dumbest character written in the history of man. At one point Locke is building her something out of wood, she asks him, "what are you making?", he turns it right side up and her eyes light up as she says, "a crib!". Ugh. Is there a point where it will be impossible for me to continue?

Probably. S1-S2 is the best part of the show by far. S3 sucks, S4-S5 are alright, and S6 is pretty terrible. I'm sure ~400 of the crazy superfans will disagree with me on that, but I do think the superfans are a little biased and give the show too much credit at times. It's a great show, but if you're already a little annoyed during S1, you might not like some of the upcoming stuff.

Well 4 out of 6 isn't too bad I guess. I keep coming back to it because of all the mysteries and questions it brings about thinking that the payoffs will be rewarding. I've heard that the writers left some loose ends untied which just sounds asinine for a show like this.

Probably gonna check out Fringe and The 4400 after Lost per the recommendations in this thread.

It's not the "old look" that turns me off; it's the slow pace of the show. I guess I generally prefer faster-paced shows like The Shield or Dexter than I do Breaking Bad, Deadwood, or The Sopranos (thus far).

I'd say Breaking Bad gets off to a pretty fast pace.

Gunna finish watching Sopranos, Studio 60 and Avatar.

But start watching Archer and Dead Like Me in the meantime. Then prolly watch The Office for a bit, no idea when to quit it though.

I liked it/maybe loved it. But I hesitate recommending it to others, since it's probably not for everyone, and some might just find it really boring.

If you decide to watch and like it then check out Pushing Daisies too. In fact maybe check out Pushing Daisies first.

I recommend "the yard" to everyone. I made a thread on here, and it got zero replies.

It is awesome. It's shot like a crime/gang drama. Except it's in a school yard.
