the two commedies i would recommend that some people might not have watched yet are:

Freaks and Geeks
and
Undeclared

i thought freaks and geeks was a better show... but i laughed a lot more at Undeclared. Both shows only ran one season... and Undeclared is almost like a squeal to freaks and geeks. I remember laughing uncontrollably when watching undeclared alone... which is pretty rare for me because normally if i watch a comedy by myself, i don't really laugh out loud too often.

I was probably one of the guys who recommended The Shield to you. You should definitely go with Game of Thrones and Deadwood. Probably go with Deadwood first because it is complete (just three seasons, unfortunately). Game of Thrones is in the middle of the second season. I haven't watched Friday Night Lights but you'd probably like it. From everything I've heard, it's one of the highest quality of those kind of shows ever made. I don't understand how you rank Sopranos, Homeland and Boardwalk Empire behind Walking Dead and Prison Break. The writing on The Walking Dead is horrible more often than not. And I loved the first season of Prison Break, but the next three seasons were complete junk. Sopranos is an all-time show, and Homeland and Boardwalk Empire are on there way to that status.

i still liked the sopranos, homeland and boardwalk empire.... i thought they were very good shows... but i just found them to be a little bit too slow paced. i think all those shows are of much better quality than a show like prison break or the walking dead... but i don't find them as enjoyable to watch. the sopranos was awesome, but 95% of an episode is mostly just talking... then you get like 5 minutes of crazy stuff happening. i like shows like 24 better because there's always a lot of action and suspense packed into each episode. jack bauer was out kicking ass every episode rather than sitting in a shrinks office half the time. that's just my preference. i know that shows like prison break got a bit ridiculous and stupid... but i still really enjoyed it.... especially the last episode 'the final break' i thought was awesome!

maybe i'll give friday night lights a shot. a good high school drama might be a fun change... probably not as intense as other shows.

i just looked up deadwood on wiki and it looks like a good show, but i'm not a big fan of westerns and shows/movies that take place in the past... i like shows that take place in present day more. maybe i'll watch deadwood after friday night lights or something.

i heard game of thrones was really good.. .but i think i'll at least wait until the second season is done... which i think is coming up soon. i love doing marathons... so it'll be good to watch 2 seasons all in a row.

i used to love watching an entire season of 24 in 1 day or 1.5 days.... it was like taking a mental vacation. i would get lots of beer, pot, and chinese takeout and watch like 18 hour straight. good times.

^deadwood is not for you

I enjoyed Ugly Americans (recommended here, thx) but find the 1st season much more enjoyable than the 2nd one. Maybe a show with a short lifespan, maybe not a good one to marathon, dunno. I have 2eps left in S2 and feel more inclined to rewatch S1 than finish S2.

BIG fan of Archer and Frisky Dingo. And Bobs Burgers.

Are Sealab or Venture Bros any good?
I've seen a few funny clips from Aqua Teen Hunger Force but it looks too cartoonish to me.
I really enjoy the whacky humor from Frisky Dingo and like that there is some sort of storyline as well. A bunch of funny stand alone episodes are good but I'm gonna be pretty picky about quality then (Ugly Americans is good, but if 3rd season is worse than 2nd one I'm dropping it)

Sealab is great. It's done by the same people who did Frisky Dingo and Archer.

It doesn't have much in the way of continuity, so every episode is standalone, and the animation is intentionally ****, often really really ****, but it is often hilarious.

I've probably only seen around half of Sealab, but I enjoyed most of what I saw. TheRempel's right about there not being much continuity, though.

Venture Bros is excellent. The first time I watched, it didn't click and I gave up after a couple episodes. I finally gave it another chance and burned through all four seasons in a couple weeks. Really funny and lots of continuity.

I always worry when I see folks recommending Deadwood, as although it is indeed a high quality show filled with top notch performances, it also is not as user friendly as many of its die hard fans would lead you to believe. Pacing is often slow, and the writing, although excellent, can come across to some as stilted and pretentious.

The analogy that I made in the thread on Luck is that Deadwood is to TV as Tom Waits is to music (or, for that matter, what 2001 is to film) in that you either love Deadwood or you scratch your head wondering what all these hugely passionate fans see in it.

Is POI case of the week, or is there a meaty season arc?

I'm kind of surprised to hear people liking it more than Homeland, so my interest is piqued.

It's a hybrid serialization. There are multiple big storylines going on in the background, but each episode mostly follows someone they have to try to save (we don't know if the person is a perpetrator or a victim going in). Several of these cases have intersected into the big storylines. It's basically been a clinic on how to do the type of show it is trying to be.

Pilot was really bad (especially Reese's makeup), but it's gradually gotten better and probably worth checking out. Some of the acting is sub-par (Reese and the two cops), but Michael Emerson is solid, as always and the stories are generally good.

That was the most lukewarm endorsement of an excellent TV show I have seen in awhile. The Pilot was excellent for Pilots, and saying it was "really bad" is really disturbing. I remember being palpably excited about its potential, and I haven't felt that way about a Pilot in years (I was lukewarm about whether it would be good when I saw the behind the scenes trailer last May). Even CBS said it was their highest testing Pilot in 15 years. Think of how high rated some of their shows have been, and put that in perspective. It was easily the best Pilot of the season on network TV, it got significantly better quickly, and stayed at that level all season. The Pilot was rough around the edges, but it was easily A- type material.

Lots of people acted like the show wasn't anything special early in the season, but nearly all of them quickly changed their tune. In 5 or 6 years, when this show is still going strong, even more will change their opinions. If anyone doesn't think it's a good or even excellent show, they're trying way too hard not to like it. It's arguably the most fun weekly watch on TV.

Also, all the acting is fine for what it is, they aren't doing Shakespeare here. It would be really hard to picture anyone else playing the Reese part, even though I have no disagreement that his acting style, especially the whispering, can be off putting. Reese is a great character, and Caviezel is nailing the tone of the character, even if he reads his lines strangely.

Was "Las Vegas" popular on here when it was on?

I've been watching old episodes of lately and forgot how much I liked it.
