So, have watched:

The Wire
The Shield
Arrested Development
Deadwood
Six Feet Under
The West Wing
Band of Brothers
Boardwalk Empire (it got me started on marathoning)
Battlestar Galactica (couldn't get into it)

Didn't like Mad Men, and have seen most of Breaking Bad. Seen all Sopranos too, on A&E tho.

Any ideas for next go?
I would watch the AMC shows

Breaking Bad
Mad Men
Walking Dead
Rubicon (just got around to watching this, too bad got canceled, although not sure how much more they could have done)

Just finished the 1st season of Dexter. I find it really good, interesting, and will likely see it through. It already can't be compared to SFU for complexity of various themes explored, character developments imo. Something I look for. It certainly has an interesting look into the mind of a sociopath though. Just not sure if that will get tiring or not. We'll see.

Halfway through Freaks & Geeks and would recommend it to anyone who went to highschool.... This show is awesome

I'm about halfway through Doctor Who and its spinoff Torchwood and I'm really enjoying it.

Every episode they're essentially saving the world but the show doesn't take itself too seriously. The show mixes comedy, sci-fi, and light drama very well. I really don't know any US show you can compare it to.

Also another unique thing the show does is it recycles through the major characters. The fact that no one is going to be around long term keeps things exciting.

And David Tennant is fantastic.

couple of random thoughts/observations.

i've seen this a few diff times recently, someone will list a bunch of awesome shows they've never seen and ask for advice on which one to watch like they can only watch one series....

wtf just watch them all...its not like you're asking "which one should i start with" or which of these should i NOT watch. its just so absurd.

also, i was a big fan of friday night lights but starting about 1/2 thru last season i've found it really hard to keep watching.
every ****ing scene everyone looks like they're about to start crying, and its just become so ridic dramatic (and not in a good way).
it used to have a really good balance between funny/upbeat story lines and some more serious issues, but for some reason they just completely abandoned the feel good part of the show and for me its gotten pretty unrewarding.
feels like everyone involved in the show is just taking everything way too seriously.

anyone not on board the justified bandwagon, you're missing some seriously awesome television.

HBO just continues to be light years ahead of the competition.

i wish AMC had nudity.

someone said something about having a hard time getting into deadwood and mad men cuz they can't watch shows which take place <20 years ago...WTF???

deadwood is one of the best shows of all time (i rank it 2nd behind the wire)
and Al was prolly the best character ever.

i want to be BFF with larry david so badly.
i want archer to be the big brother i never had.

but ya seriously pls stop with the "which of these critically acclaimed, insanely popular, nothingevenremotelynegativeeversaidaboutthem, tv shows should i watch?".
just ****ing watch them all.

Just started watching Justified and... is it supposed to be a comedy?

I'm not one to whine about things not being realistic but come on. I'm 3 episodes in and everything the characters do is borderline ridiculous. The acting is pretty decent and its pretty likable but its hard not to be distracted and annoyed at the silliness of the characters actions.

It gets significantly better. I wasn't sure if I was going to stick with it, but it's worth it. Season 2 is on point from beginning to the end. FINALE TOMORROW!!!!

The show takes some time to find itself; I think there were even a couple irrelevant MOTW eps in Season 1.

Every second of season 2 is completely boss.

Eureka started off really fun but this past season was pretty lame, still watchable, if you love sci-fi, though.

Does VM get a lot better or something? I got through the first 5 episodes based on all the recommendations here but so far it seems like just another show made for girls under 25.

hmm I watched the first 4 or so eps of Justified back when it came out and thought it was ok but not worth my time. now everyone says it greatly improved. could I just skip right to season 2?

Probably. Or maybe just watch the last couple of eps from season one to see how that ended. The 2nd season is amazing and a big improvement imo.

Finished Freaks and Geeks, too bad there isn 't more. The Walking Dead also. Sigh.

I now understand anyone saying they wish they could go back in time and watch these shows all over again for the first time. It's been a hell of a marathon. Looks like I might need to not watch tv for another 10 years to replicate it.

Thats what I did. Season 1 was just epically bad but I kept hearing good things about season 2

So far so good. I definitely don't feel like I've missed anything. 90% of season 1 seemed to be mostly stand alone bad movies.

anyone who hasnt seen fringe, watch it

it starts off a bit slow and then just ****ing takes off

by jj abrams (lost, alias)- id say they learned from lost, its put together extremely well (similar to lost in that its extremely mysterious/lots going on at once/lots of wtf moments)

if lost was written by the people who do fringe it would have been the GOAT

i feel for anyone not watching this show

^Agreed. The standalones suck, but the continuing storyline is great. It's basically LOST if the writers weren't such dicks that had to FPS everything and piss off their audience.

This is probably the 10th time ITT that I've recommended Fringe, but I agree with these guys. The last season was the best yet.

Currently watching Dexter. Watched all of season 5 in one night first. Don't know why I watched the entire season. It was good but I thought it would be better given the reviews. Decided to start from season 1 and just finished that today. Currently on episode 3 of season 2 and am enjoying it.

Fringe was actually good? I watched the first five episodes and found it awful. They were all stand alone though.

S5 was pretty awful. S1 and S2 are great, though.

Yeah, if you can make it through the standalones, it's worth it. I was frustrated early on because of how many episodes didn't push the storyline forward, but once I hit early-to-mid-S2, that changed. If you're strapped for time, you can skip basically every episode that doesn't start with "Previously on Fringe," and you wouldn't miss much of anything wrt the main story.

i disagree a lot, just watched it through there were definitely less stand-alones than i remember, and ever the "stand-alones" still found ways to push the overall plot arcs forward

the show starts off slow bc it seems like theyre not really sure where they're going they just have a basic idea and interesting characters but once they figure it out it gets amazing

also, s1 ep4 is absolutely not a stand alone and has one of the best moments in the shows history so im not sure you watched the 1st 5 eps
