I'm one of the few will continue to watch Weeds till the end, but yeah, season 4 starts a downward spiral and it will never recover. There were 2 moments (1 in 4 and 1 in 5) that would've salvaged it had they not f*cked it up, but that was it. With the end of last season (the season 5 moment) there's a chance they can redeem it, but I'm not banking on it. They'd have to reworking the entire show and I don't think they'll do that.

Anyone watching haven? It has kind of an xfiles feel although neither lead is as good. Pilot was a B, and the next episode was a B-/C+.

Just good enough for me to setup a season recording.

I watched the first two episodes and thought it had potential, and the chick is smoking hot. It's on hulu so i'll probably end up watching it.

I just randomly caught the pilot episode of The O.C. tonight, and I was surprised at how good it was. I was looking for a new show to watch anyway, so I'm going to give it a shot. Am I in for a huge letdown? If so, how quickly does it get bad?

The first season is good for what it is, a teen soap with over the top drama and a great soundtrack. Each successive season gets worse and by the end it's ****ing terrible.

Funny you should bring this up. I bought the complete set a couple months ago and finished the last season yesterday. Overall it's pretty entertaining. The first season and most of the second are excellent. The show goes off the rails often after that but even when it's bad it's good. They pack a ton of storyline into each season so it's impossible to get bored.

(I'm in love with Summer too.)

I just ordered Sports Night and Veronica Mars. I'll watch whatever shows up first.

Sports Night would have been 1000000000000x better and more watchable without the laugh track

I just finished the first season and I barely noticed the laugh track. It seems like they only use it in certain parts as well. Obviously no laugh track would be better but it's not that bad and certainly shouldn't be used as a reason not to watch the show.

They barely use the laugh track; it disappears entirely after the first few episodes

Just finished the first two seasons of VMars and strongly recommend it. Season two wasn't quite up to the standards of season one, but then, season one is one of the most tightly plotted and paced seasons of television I've seen in a long time.

Yea I feel the same way, so hard to care about movie characters that just have like 2 formulaic scenes to show their "inner strife" or w/e.

the problem here is not rooted in the word "movie", it's rooted in the world "formulaic".

well yeah, I agree but maybe formulaic wasn't exactly the word I was looking for. I meant that in a movie there really just isn't enough time to develop characters that are fully fleshed out, so they just have to through in a couple things/scenes/lines/etc. to "paint the character," and it just isn't enough for me to care, in most cases.

The same applies with plot. Hard to have an epic plot in 2 hours.

I've noticed the same thing. Even in great movies, you just don't get to know the characters as well as in a good TV show. The more good series' I watch, the more rushed movies feel.

Yeah. I understand the sentiment to some extent though. It's more like TV is beginning to catch up with the movies--the theater experience is somewhat replicable in the home now. This couldn't have been possible 10 years ago. HBO started pushing the boundary of what TV could achieve around the same time as the HD revolution and digital era. The movie industry has a daunting task ahead of them. But still, aside from a handful of great TV shows, the vast majority of quality work comes via the movie industry.
