Nice!

I've never been a fan of Western films/TV shows, so I never thought I'd like it, but it was awesome. Finally getting the DVD set so I can give it another go.

I really don't know what took me so long. When I finally watched The Wire, I had a choice between that and The Shield. I chose.... wisely. There's been reason for me not to watch Deadwood though. Probably the fact that it didn't end right.

I think I might have to marathon the rest though. First 3 eps were set-up like and now sh*t's gettin' real.

For any fans of The Wire (or anyone considering watching it for the first time), the complete series is available today only for $75.

The Shield is still really good though, imo. It's tough for anything to compare to The Wire, and the parallels are unfortunately obvious, but I think it's a very good show in its own right.

Also, holy crap. Nice.

I'm thinking of buying this- anybody else have this and want to comment on the quality of the DVDs/packaging? Some of the reviews are pretty negative solely based on that.

If you liked Dead Like Me you should try Pushing Daisies. Also created by Bryan Fuller. Unfortunately also cut short (2 seasons, 22 episodes), but still very much worth it.

Does Dead Like Me change/improve after the first couple episodes?

Toward the beginning, I halfway kinda/sorta enjoyed it, but it was mostly for Mandy Patinkin and not much else. Curious whether the other elements changed at all. Thanks.

I would say probably not from what I remember. I did love the show and the characters, but did feel like with the story set-up there was a lot possibilities for exciting plot twist that never happened, but I guess it was just not their intention to make that kind of show.

I think Pushing Daisies was a better show fwiw.

Can anyone tell me when Mad Men gets good?

7 episodes into season 1.. I mean.. its ok.. but I don't really care about anything.

Is the show just not for me? Or does it actually improve?

Season 1, Episode 1.

Season 1 is my least favorite but overall it's pretty great. This might not be the show for you.

Yea, in spite of all the good I've hear about it, simply couldn't get into it and had to move on.

Went directly into a marathon that hasn't stopped:

- Boardwalk Empire in 2 days
- all 5 seasons of The Wire in roughly 5
- currently on season 2, episode 17 of The West Wing

The Wire is a tough act to follow for a few reasons. Firstly, it is simply that amazing. The story line drawn by the season makes it habitual watching through all 12-13 episodes of each. Then you find yourself wanting to know what the new focus will be and you are soon stuck on another season. Also, the format of nearly 1 full hr per is nice. It's ridiculously hard to stop watching it once you begin.

But I think if there is anything that possibly could follow it, it is the West Wing. Great story lines, incredibly witty and sometimes beautiful writing. Sorkin is indeed a master of dialogue. But given what I've seen, and if I were to have to decide again in what order to watch, I would have saved The Wire for last.

Have no idea what to watch after this. Prob just go back to not watching tv or something.

It might not actually be the show for you. Nothing really happens in it bar one or two interesting parts.

Personally I would stick with it, I think it is the best of anything on these days

This is sort of my same feeling on the show. I watched all of season 1 and 2 1/2 episodes of season 2 and gave up. I won't deny for a second that the show is great, it's just not for me. Maybe some other time, but I just couldn't do it anymore.

I have it and have had no problems. Yeah, the packaging could be better(it kinda sucks that it opens horizontally) but it's not a big deal imo. Def worth the lesser price.

Disappointing.. I was more excited for Mad Men than almost any show in recent memory.

Will finish out the few seasons since I bought them blind.. hope I get into it more.

I've heard that in season 3 things start to pick up. I think I'll wait till it's over with and then force myself to marathon it.

Is Broadwalk Empire any good? I'm a HUGE The Wire/The Sopranos fan, is it similar?

Is Band of Brothers any good as well?

merry xmas all!

Band of Brothers is the GOAT miniseries. Boardwalk Empire is good and a must watch for any Wire/Sopranos fan (but don't expect it to be anywhere near the quality of those two, obviously).

Season 1 down on Mad Men.. has a similar feel to Six Feet Under, but just feels like it comes up quite a bit shorter than SFU did.

Lol, I went through The Wire in like ten days IIRC, five is HC. Then add those two others...

I might have to dig into The WW, too, having read a lot of praise for it lately. Not being a native English speaker, I hope the political vocabulary and fast paced dialogue won't be too hard for me.

Just started with Undeclared. Loved Freaks and Geeks but so far this seems far worse, even though reviews have suggested it to be fairly good.

season 2 > season 1 imo so maybe you'll start to enjoy it, if you don't like season 2 then you can probably just stop watching it

lol if you understood the hood dialect in the wire you shouldn't have a problem with WW

GODDAMN!! This show is engrossing as hell. Just finished the episode "Mr. Wu" and WOW!! From scene to scene I almost wide-eyed watching it. The transition from the bathhouse scene to the hardware store scene was phenomenal.

I'm glad I'm not booked up for the rest of the year. I might be knocking the rest of this f*cking show in 1 setting.
