I also liked the first ep of Outlander, but not sure if I'd recommend it. My wife likes the books and I've read the first one. I think I'll be more forgiving than most.

I liked BSG a lot as well, just not so much season 4. lol at punching people for not loving BSG enough.

So say we all.

All caught up on Honourable Woman, taking some interesting turns.

BSG is some of the best television ever produced and is only let down by a mediocre final arc. I can't fathom being a sci-fi fan and not being enthralled.
Well, no. Trying to pigeon hole sci-fi fans like they all must like x show is to misunderstand sci-fi. Especially when the last season and a half was hard work.

With all episodic TV a lot depends on the actors and characters carrying the show. If you don't like the actors or characters very much then the subject really doesn't matter.

For me I don't think there are enough actors or characters that I like in BSG. There are a few actors in that show that I've never really cared for so it's hard for me to like the characters or care about them.

Anyone watching Hell on Wheels?

I saw the first few eps, thought it was decent but then lost touch and now it's apparently on its fourth season. Is it worth watching or does it get terrible and is worth avoiding?

Wow fourth season?! I remember when that came out, only feels like about a year ago.

If I recall correctly it wasn't greatly loved here (at the start anyway) so I gave it a miss.

Really annoying nitpick: At the start of every episode they do a little "Humans created Cylons...blah" And the last sentence is "And They Have A Plan."

Ok that' great but I'm 10 episodes in and still don't know what the plan is. Stop telling me they have a plan if you're never going to explain the plan with only 3 episodes to go in the first season.

I gave this a shot a few months ago and was immediately hooked by the premise and tension of the first few EP's, despite some obvious cheese. I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen next. by the middle of season 2 I was meh, quit about 2/3rds through the series totally disgusted to the point of not even caring how it ends. So no, I don't think it will get better for you if you didn't like the start.

I'm prolly getting accused for blasphemy but I for one like it better than Deadwood tbh, mostly because there's more action and because there are more than just two interesting characters. I also like the plot better and how it progresses, and ofc its twists (felt DW didn't progress at all, and there were basically no twists). Didn't know s04 just aired, thanks for the update.

It's ok to have this opinion, but your reasons are just so far off I actually laughed.

Coincidentally, The AV Club has just started a re-watch & review of the mini- and first three season of BSG.

my biggest gripes with deadwood were it's lack of realism and crappy dialogue.

Deadwood is more like Shakespeare while HoW is more like Bruckheimer.

Some people just can't grasp Shakespeare...

Yea, or they just don't like it. Imagine that!

I like good arts. I hate Picasso though. I also enjoy music of various genres. I like good metal, and trip hop, and whatnot, but I hate Mozart and Beethoven and the likes. I like sports cars but hate those fugly Lamborghinis. And then I like western shows, and as such I like HoW better than DW. To top that, I also absolutely love mafia shows and films, but I find the Sopranos super boring. I enjoy Boardwalk Empire much, much more.

But some people just can't grasp the concept of personal opinion I guess.

Just ftr, I didn't mean to imply DW being bad. It has by far the better acting and dialogues. Calm the f down guys.

I've found Deadwood to be the most polarizing of the recent critically acclaimed dramas. Probably Mad Men next.

i LOVE honourable woman. i haven't watched last night's episode. but i rewatched the first episode and there is a ton going on that you won't catch if you don't know what's coming up. they drop tons of little hints.

really excellent show, great acting, especially the old MI-5 guy, all the shots are pretty and interesting too. great mise en scene(how's that for elitist snobbery?). it's a little different than my abcfamily shows i love

i like the way sundance channel has been anti-death penalty(rectify), and anti israeli aggression(honourable woman) without being polarizing about it. their stories are very inclusive.

I've only seen the 1st season. I've been meaning to catch up on it, but lost interest when AMC was in a contract dispute with dish where I missed the beginning of the 2nd season. I'm a sucker for westerns and think Deadwood is my favorite all time show.

I'd give the 1st season a C+. Iirc there were 4 fantastic eps, 3 awful eps, and the rest were meh.
