I disagree, but some other reviews do say that.

Everyone filled in the gaps nicely. You said you like Sons of Anarchy, you should be watching the spin off, Mayans M.C. Season 4 starts Tuesday.

lol The best part about that show looking back is that Rebecca (Lili Simmons) and Deva (Ryann Shane) are/were both the same age.

Episodes 2 and 3 of Mayor of Kingstown were wow. Like some Mr Inbetween meets the Wire meets Oz type vibes. Really curious to see if it can hold that level of quality to the end!

Spoiler:
The execution scene and then the tweaker that blows up the kid, wow. Heavy in a good way

And the eye candy? DOES NOT HURT.

This is basically the exact opposite of how I experienced the show. I jumped in after s2 had aired and TV critic Alan Sepinwall said it got so much better than S1, than if you were pressed for time you could watch the pilot and then slip to S1E8 and go from there, which I did.

Enjoyed the series so much I went back later to rewatch the ones I had skipped, and from there I ended up rewatching the entire series, and my seasons ranking remained the same on rewatch... 4>3>2>1 (although 3/4 are close)

Anyway just couldn't believe how opposite both my viewings were to this take, carry on

hmm, i thought there were only 3 seasons, perhaps i missed the last one

was surprised by your take so looked and sure enough your viewpoint is the mainstream one, maybe i latently hate strong female characters taking over?

All that I’ve seen about that show is that it ended incredibly well. I keep meaning to watch it but that’s a ways off

Think I stopped watching Halt late s1 or at some point in s2. I kinda liked it, but it felt slow.

Halt and Catch Fire is an incredibly strange show, especially the way it changed over time. But at its best, it was amazing tv telling a very important story.

A poster being afraid of a spooky HBO agenda is kind of hilarious.

I'm watching Top Boy on Netflix, I think someone recommended it in this thread? It's...alright? It's entertaining enough to not quit on it but I keep waiting for it to get better than it is. Almost finished with season 1.

I'm also continuing to enjoy Pachinko on AppleTV but I don't think it's a show for most ITT. It's a family drama based at different periods of time in the 20th century in Japan.

I've never seen the Patriot, Black Sails, Legit, Wilfred, Happy, or Snowfall.

I think Snowfall is the only one I know much about. Seems I have my work cut out for me!

Halt and Catch Fire is an amazing show for any 70's or 80's kids (of which I am one). To have grown up right in it I think changes the show for you. I'd like to eventually see someone do a good job of a similar show around social media's creation. The Social Network was a nice start.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7768092/ valley of the boom - docudrama with surprisingly decent cast that chronicles a lot of the big early 90s tech giants that nobody even remembers anymore - really enjoyed it - it also shows one of the most predatory ipos of all time where the ibank convinced theglobe.com their shares were worth about 10% what they resold them for on the market

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0168122...tt_sims_tt_i_4 pirates of silicon valley made for tv movie about the origin of gates and jobs and their rivalry/partnership

https://www.imdb.com/video/vi2227223...&ref_=tt_ov_vi - silicon cowboys, story of compaq and the struggle vs ibm dominance and rise of the pc

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Downlo...f_the_Internet - download the true story of the internet cheesy production basic cable doc but incredible content about the goings on of stuff like aol and netscape

https://wondery.com/shows/business-wars/ there's also a podcast called business wars by wondery which has a bunch of behind the scenes made for radio docudramas about a bunch of stuff like video game console wars and blockbuster vs netflix, it can be a bit cheesy at times ie they'll add details inner thoughts of people and odd additions like "he asked his wife to make him a stiff drink and called the investors" whereas all they have is knowledge he liked to drink and a transcript of the call but when they cover a topic of interest it's really good

https://www.npr.org/series/490248027/how-i-built-this - how i built this, an npr podcast where some rube who idly accepts any story/positive spin he's given sits down with very famous entrepreneurs and has them tell their version of events of their origin story - it's largely total propaganda ie the founders are telling you the version they wish to portray and aren't challenged ever but it's still an incredible listen - ie he got one of the wework founders long before it was revealed to be a total mess so if you liked wecrashed you'll probably at least want to listen to the wework episode

there's another one out there that is good that i can't remember the name of (i think it's this https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Ameri.../dp/B00BD7MBK6) that is about how semiconductor people left the east coast to take advantage of Stanford offering free leases (they figured the companies would hire stanford graduates - stanford is why silicon valley exists today) and buiding the modern semiconductor industry out there and how it just became a real hub for innovation

I stopped at maybe 8 episodes in. I don't remember because of the weird season setup on netflix. Not because it was bad, but it wasn't great and didn't really care where it was going.

Thanks all for the repsonses

I started watching mayor of Kingstown last night (watched 3 episodes only stopped cos i had to sleep ha) i mean that in a good way im gonna watch a few more episodes tonight it seems really good and so far im hooked.

------------

In response to some other posts too many to quote all

Topboy the original series (think it was called summerhouse) was top notch TV - the newer ones produced by Drake i dont think are as gritty or realistic and story is weak, but watchable.

watched
Fleabag - seen it and enjoyed it
1883 - excellent really liked it probably a 9/10 if not 10/10
severance - watched and liked it great ending/cliffhanger cant wait for series 2
the bureau - Watched it all not long ago and yes was great even with subtitles
Gomorrah - Yes top notch really liked it all, first couple season were especially good with the dad in it.
Yellowstone- i really like this series too not sure what to rate it maybe 7/10
band of brothers (HBO) - watched it a yr or two ago
bojack horseman (Netflix) - cant get into animation at all
brotherhood - saw this many years ago and at the time i remember it being one of the best things on tv at the time (will give a rewatch sometime) actually thinking back i know its gangsterish and one of the brothers is political i wonder is it inspiration for "mayor of kingstown" in some way.

adding to my watchlist below:
BCS - Better call Saul , i just cant get into this at all, i am going to watch it tho as i love BB
station 11 -added to my watchlist
fauda - will add to watchlist
endeavour - will add to my watchlist
Mayans M.C - watched first series , was ok , tbh i just think spin offs aint for me, but will add to watchlist just in case i run dry sometime
Barry - Attempted to watch this 3 times now and again i can't get into it, i think ive watched 5 episodes but coulda been when i was a downer mood will give it a go again as even my brother keeps telling me to watch it.
succession (HBO)
generation kill
the patriot
Godless - i remember i watched 2 episodes of this i will give it another go

i have a good few things to watch now thanks all

love these three (i don't watch much tv, don't even own a tv, but i make time for these

bcs is a very slow burn, you can skip over several episodes at a time and be wholly caught up because nothing will have started nor finished in that time - not that you should skip obviously but it's significantly slower than breaking bad, vince gilligan didn't want to take shortcuts but just do things slowly and subtlety and just let it ooze in, essentially, very little has changed from the pilot to the most recent episode but in the meantime there's a ton "oh don't look away cause you'll miss that detail" tv worth watching

barry - it's a pretty unique show, if you've tried 3x and seen 5 episodes then trying a 4th time and watching a 6th isn't going to change anything - i'd just drop it, it's not for everyone

succession - amazing show, it has a dedicated thread here too, impressive how they get so many little details right whereas most shows trying to depict the wealthy just show you what middle class people would imagine they'd do if they suddenly had unlimited funds instead of showing what it's like to grow up taking that for granted
