There is a disturbing lack of actual sex in a show with that title. That said, it was definitely watchable and entertaining.

Yeh my issue with the name was it sounded like another trashy American Pie reboot, something it's really not.

Basically would attract people who wouldn't like the show, and turn off people would actually like it.

Yes.
+Solid nudity quantity.

Slow Horses better than I expected. Tremendous actors. KST and Oldman en fuego.
Tokyo Vice decent 2 eps in. Main (white) actor barely hangs with the Japanese cast (excellent). Japanese location helps a ton (Michael Mann directed the pilot)

Severance ended on a hell of a cliffhanger. Bit of a slow burn but if the premise sounds intriguing to you you won't be disappointed. Excellent cast.

Only watched the first ep of Pachinko last night but it looks promising. The Japanese occupation of Korea is something a lot of people don't know about, and I'll be interested to see how they protray it going forward.

Currently watching The Sex Lives of College Girls, silly name, but decent enough comedy.
I avoided this show because the name makes it sound like it will be straight garbage. How does it compare to girls

I made it 5 minutes, too many subtitles. I don't watch shows/movies to read.

Looks cool, but is awful. I made it through 1 and a half episodes with high hopes before finally accepting that it is a really really bad show.

Couldn't be too sure, only watched a few episodes when it very first came out.

It's also four kinda misfit young girls, but they're roommates starting a very prestigious college. I'm going guess Girls is more 'gritty'.

Tokyo vice hot garbage. Trailer makes the show look incredible. I made it ~90 min.

The reviews for Tokyo Vice seem quite good though. I'm always scared to start a new HBO series for fear that an agenda will be shoved down my throat.

Love the TV feedback. That's why I'm here. Will avoid unless positive reviews.

I'll probably give it another chance after the whole series is out, but I couldn't see it getting better than the garbage it had been through 1.5 eps.

Yes. But at least the final minute and in that, the final sentence of the episode is very satisfying.

New series of Derry Girls finally out on Tuesday!

One of my top comedies of recent times. Even the Simpsons referenced them.

Damn, I don't get the hate for tokyo vice.

The production quality is top notch, the acting is pretty good, the story seems to be building momentum through 2 episodes I've watched.

IMO the pilot was much better than Michael Mann's last movie Blackhat.

i cringed pretty hard at the trailer - classic weeb in asia living weeb dreams and gets special access/treatment fantasy

it also hits pretty close to home from my own experiences

foreigners living in asia are very much outsiders and in japan especially are treated like pure trash - i turned down a job offer in tokyo that would have paid 4x my salary after everyone i knew who worked in japan that i spoke to told me it was the most miserable experience of their lives - these were expats who spent their lives living abroad so it's not like being away from home was the problem

japan is great as a tourist visting tourist regions but once you step outside that wheelhouse you're subhuman to them, in my time there going on work trips i've been told the restaurants are full despite they clearly were at 1/3 capacity, been told there was a mistake in my hotel reservation and i would be refunded but couldn't check in, even some places just directly said "no foreigners"

the classic trope expats tell each other about japan is "japan is a wonderful place to visit and terrible place to live"

my buddy went on a motorcycle trip there and broke down in a remote region, it was a simple fix but he didn't have the tool on hand, he said that nobody would stop and help him despite being stranded in the middle of nowhere, not even other biker groups would stop - which apparently is huge wtf since bikers always help each other - he finally got help when he decided to keep his helmet on and then the first people stopped immediately

so re the "based on a true story" aspect, there's either some insane exaggeration or we're not dealing with a reliable narrator, at the very least it was someone treated as a novetly act to toy around with and never taken seriously yet he was unaware of that because the typical expat is usually a social pariah hence why they were ok leaving home in the first place and it's a bit trickier to understand when you're being disrespected in another language and culture

having said that, i will probably watch a few episodes anyway because it could be fun and really like watanabe

When all is said and done, I loved Severance. I think it and Station Eleven are my favorite new shows this year, interestingly the tone of each is pretty far from my usual fare. Probably my subconscious at work trying to make sense of the crazy last few years. So much loss, isolation, tribalism, nihilism, yet small seeds of hope through human connection.

1. Severance - i watched 2 episodes doesn't grab me at all, is it worth continuing ?
2. Archive 81 - same as above watched 3 episodes - story seems ok but not being gripped at all to it, should i continue ?

saw once when i was new enough to be rented so probably 11 or 12, i recall really enjoying it - genuinely curious what i'd think of it now but based on the trailer it seems to correctly touch on a lot of the natural conflicts

kinda want to go through a baseball movie marathon now of the ones i haven't seen in over a decade, starting with that, rookie of the year and mr 3000

I thought Severance was excellent. I waited till 4 eps were available and it picks up around that time. Just renewed.

I watched 2 eps of Archive 81 and gave up. It was cancelled so any cliffhanger will be unresolved.
