i was ****ing mesmerized for that last 5 minutes, reminds me how much we don't know about the future of GoT, and if the show doesnt mess up some new material scenes it can be both as good as the books AND new... which... makes it pretty great. Doesnt happen very often tho.

Can the giants walk underwater and breathe? I kinda remember something about that.

Either that or he honorably sudoku'd by walking to his death so he wouldnt get revived by the Walkers

Great episode. I guess not exactly surprising as this has kind of been a formula for awhile: x amount of **** episodes followed by some great stuff.

sepinwall blew his load on this ep apparently.

I feel like the episode was even better than I thought after reading his kid-in-a-candy-store review .

Up there as one of the best Eps of the series IMO, with how much **** everyone gives the showrunners for their changes I think it's pretty clear they nailed it with Tyrion being expedited to Dany & all the hardhome stuff, great stuff.

THIS, at first I was bitter about the prospect of having the books spoiled for me, now I'm just ****ing thrilled I get new GOT material.

Hard to say as I just saw it, but I think that might've been the best episode of the show.

Wow, they went from complete AIDs to this. Possibly best ep of the show.

Hardhome stuff=A+
Dany Tyrion=A+
Jorah story=A
Kings Landing=A+
Arya=A

Arya finally started kicking ass again and I almost forgot she was in the episode because of how much awesomeness just occurred.

People are also forgetting Cersei refusing to confess and sucking water off the floor.

That was really really good imo

Tormund destroying Lord of Bones alone, after the gutsy walk up there and failed negotiations, was a top sequence. Like other stuff in this episode will be downplayed bc of how epic battle scene was.

the white walker fight was legit as ****. They really shoved it in your face how normal weapons accomplish nothing and are basically just shattered on contact, but obsidian and valyrian steel are able to kill them instantly. Yet I still see loads of comments from confused viewers... just how stupid are these people?

really don't see how you guys can think this is the best ep ever. I mean, I liked the hardhome stuff but I'm really not into the magic part of the show, and it feels like some people just watch the show to see the action scenes and that's it. it's like they want to watch the walking dead 2.0. I'm not complaining, I think people can have different reasons to watch a show, I just think if you're watching the show expecting what we had in this ep you'll get frustrated for most of the time. my favorite part of the ep wasn't even the end, I'd take tyrion and danny scenes over hardhome all day. that interaction was something I could only dream of. it was the biggest plot advance in a book reader point of view since the show began. I was afraid the show would destroy it like they did to a lot of stuff, but nope, not only they made danny actually tolerable but they did the same to tyrion, that is a lot more interesting than his book counterpart. also liked that they didn't beat around the bush until he finally became her counselor.

this episode had everything:

- great dialogue between Tyrion and Dany, everyone agrees this was superbly done (plus our perception is probably heightened b/c this scene is new too us so there are novelty points to score

- a straight adaption from the books done really well (the Arya stuff - always nice to see stuff from pages comes to life nicely)

- stuff moving behind the scenes (Kevan, Pycelle, The Mountain Zombie) + the near throwaway scene with Ramsey's strike force (no idea where that is going?)

- mythology advancement (Valyrian steel shown as a lethal weapon vs white Walkers, White Walkers army advancement)

- Sansa sacking up and getting news that will change her plotline (Bran and Rickon reveal)

- epic battle scene

I think people get excited about big fights / action scenes because they are the best chance for the show to give you something that a book passage can't.

good unkown material (Dany + Tyrion) + feelgood moments from the book (Arya, Cersei) + epic battle = great episode.

Awesome episode. Having read the reddit thread about Jon being carried off by the Night King made the battle more suspenseful. But they've been foreshadowing him getting stabbed by the NW so much I guess he had to come back.

A Giant brought back as a Wight would be unstoppable.

I think that was my favorite episode of the tv series yet. So many great moments that keep popping into my head. I especially liked the female wildling (Harma?) going from being an ass kicker to utterly losing all hope and giving in when she sees her kids have already been turned. That was well done and gut wrenching.

Question for you guys: what the hell went on over the other side of the fence? There were 100s? 1000s? of wildlings that didn't make it through the gate. That winter fog blows in and suddenly they are all ice zombies. Not nearly enough time for them all to be killed and resurrected like the scene at the end. If it is some other kind of power the Night King has, why didn't he just do it again once the fence was breached?

Someone asked earlier about the giant marching into the water. I was assuming those row boats were just being used to ferry people to the ships farther out in the bay, and the giant obviously wasn't fitting in a row boat. He just walks out to a ship and probably climbs on. Although that would have been funny to watch, like a large person trying to climb into a canoe.

I've read different accounts of that - I'm pretty sure those were not her kids (everyone in the boats seemed to be safe). but she was still overwhelmed by the site of kid zombies.

I mentioned this before, the gate actually confused me. the gate seemed to be between Hardhome and the mountain cliffs, but that wouldn't seem to make sense as the mountains are the natural defense so no need to have a gate behind them.
