I already forgot, but did we see how Walt called?
I am pretty sure Jessy called, because the off-chance that Hank woulda recognized Walt's voice woulda been too high.

Thoughts on whether Walt didn't say anything on the phone to Jesse because he was still in 2 minds about helping him, or because he thought his phone might be tapped? If its the latter, thats another recent link back to Walt.

EDIT: Actually, Walts cell is a throwaway thats not linked to him.

It was definitely because he thought the phone might be tapped. There might be a problem though because i think Jesse actually said "Mr. White?" before Walt hung up.

i think it was a little bit of both... he wasn't sure he wanted to help jesse, and he thought it was tapped, possibly.

so are we certain that hank knows (in the hospital) that walt is connected? I didn't catch that at all.

well, first of all he called alt 2 hours before asking about jesse and the rv on his cell phone. Then he gets a call on his cell phone telling his wife's name...

This. Plus there is a chance that Hank and the DEA kill the cousins or arrest or hunt them down. It's a win for Gus in almost every scenario except if they kill Hank and leave nothing to tie them to the crime. The benefits here well out weigh the risk.

it was neither imo.

helping jesse wasn't the issue, he knew he was just as wrapped up in the RV getting discovered as jesse, and had no idea how to initiate the conversation with him since they parted on such bad terms. he previously had basically told jesse to f*** off and now he has to somehow succinctly apologize and get jesse back on his side BEFORE taking care of the problem.

walt realizes the gravity of the situation in that moment and decides to just take care of it himself ASAP rather than getting involved with jesse's drama.

no i'm pretty sure it's because he was concerned the phone was tapped because as soon as he calls saul he asks if the phone line was secure, meaning wire tapping was on his mind.

I love recording this show, coming into this thread, then having my feelings justified. I think this was the best episode of the series. It just never missed. Breaking Bad is still on course to become the greatest show of all time.

Yeah, Walt said "Yeah, It's me" to Saul. And they could see Hank out the window, so it makes sense that they would have watched to see what he was doing.

really good episode - about the only show with no dead spots for me.

I think Hank knows someone else was in the RV with Jesse - and that might lead him to Walt.

I thought it was silly for Walt and Jesse to hang around the while the RV was crushed given Hank would be comong back pretty quick - I'm wondering though if he could have stopped the demolition if he had come back - not clue why he didn't. Can he seize the compacted RV - maybe still enough evidence that its a meth lab to bust Jesse?

Only part I thought didn't work was the no-sound scene of Hank in the hospital - looked a little hokey imo.

don't think so - this was someone's daughter

racersedge, i liked how there was no sound in the hospital scene. it reflected hanks mental state. btw, i love the way hanks eyes shift to the side when he's thinking really hard or angry.

the cinematography in this show is spectacular. also loved the little song they played when walt and his new assistant were working

Show was so good this week I peed in my pants a little. These days it's hard even to find movies that are as good as a typical Breaking Bad episode, let alone an exceptional episode like this one -- best of the season so far, no doubt.

How do you watch this show even once and not realize it's set in Albuquerque, New Mexico?

normally I don't give "cinematography" much weight in the overall quality of a tv show or movie, but I really like these wide shots of the deserts here.

I just wish BB, and Mad Men too, were in HD. Standard def is killing me when I compare these shows to inferior product that looks a lot better (e.g. Lost, Fringe, etc.)

It is in HD..... must be your cable/satellite provider that needs to step it up here.

Time Warner in my area just got AMC HD in the last few months. I've been re-watching the last season of Mad Men along with Breaking Bad and it looks excellent, especially the final shot with Gus and the twins with the sun going down.

The desert setting for this show is perfect. If it was set in some Midwest college town with tree-lined streets, leaves changing color, snow, and all that, then Walt's evolution would be more subverise, but living in the desert, there is something about the desolation and openness that makes you feel like you are a tiny unimportant speck in the universe, while the vastness of it simultaneously makes you feel like anything is possible. There's a lot of nihilism in the desert.

this show was originally supposed to be in riverside, ca, but new mexico was more financially attractive
