better hope bengals beat the texans cause you know the steelers will win against the broncos. Steelers would come in and beat us imo.

for sure, yeah, though my guess is we avoid the Steelers somehow. one of Denver or Cinci will pull the upset...I hope.

and looking at odds, I think it's only roughly 33% we get Steelers, 67% we get someone else

I am totally fine with the defense spotting three touchdowns as long as we score seven of them unanswered. That's how we roll.

Here's some non-Patriots handicapping stuff, that I want to post but don't feel like venturing into the sewer known as the 2+2 Sports Betting Forum to do so:

When I was a teenager, I found a book in my local bookstore on sports betting. It was pretty useless, unless you needed basic things like teasers and money lines explained to you. But I always remembered one point the author made: "The best bet in sports is during the last week of the NFL season, where you find a team that is at home, getting points, and needs to win to make the playoffs." That makes total sense, so I couldn't wait until the last week of the season.

Unfortunately, either none of those teams were at home, or they weren't getting points. Oh well, I'll wait till next year.

And the next year. And the next.

I waited THIRTY YEARS before this spot finally came up (I guess oddsmakers aren't as stupid as we had hoped). This was last year, when the God-awful 6-9 Seahawks had a chance to win their division if they could knock off the 7-8 Rams. I didn't bet, but I watched with interest. Seattle destroyed 'em, and the world was shocked. Not me!

Well, I thought, I might have to wait another 30 years, but the next time this spot comes up, I'm betting it!

I only had to wait until the following year. Maybe.

The Bengals are getting close to 3 from Baltimore this week. I'm sure it would be closer to 6 if it weren't for the factors I've mentioned, but still. CIN is at home, and getting points...but do they need to win to get in? Not exactly. If they win, they're definitely in. If they lose, they can still get in, but it's nearly impossible.

They lead NYJ, TEN, and OAK by one game for the final spot. If CIN loses, they're almost certain to be involved in some sort of tie-break scenario, and they lose almost every single one (the only way avoid the tiebreaks would be if all three of those teams lost, or if OAK took the West while NYJ and TEN lost). CIN loses in a four-way tie, they lose in any three-way tie, and they lose a two-way tie to any of those teams except TEN. IOW, the only way they lose and still get in is if all three of those other teams lose, or if OAK takes the West and the NYJ lose.

So is this really a "back to the wall" game for CIN? They can still get in with a loss, but only if the planets line up for them. Do I throw my hat into the ring, or wait another 30 years?

EDIT TO ADD: BTW, I figure Mesko should play Karl, we need Ocho to play Ellis...unless Irving Fryar is available! Oh yeah, and Woodhead as Argyle. If you don't find this fun, you have no sense of joy.
I hope you planned to wait another 30 years

This is what happens when you have one of the worst defenses in the league.

Plus Tebow stole the spotlight for almost two months.

Patriots defense nudges Green Bay in the final week by 8 yards to take over the 31st slot in yards allowed on defense. WHATS UP we arent the worst defense in the league.

15th in scoring defense btw.

"Does that signal a willingness to wager?"

(I never pass up a chance to quote Deadwood.)

Not money, keep it friendly. I just know that the list of coaches who have managed to knock off Belichick twice in one season, is a very short list indeed.

Well, that, and Rothlesberger can't walk.

Playing Tebow and having a terrible defense are the only two things the media have talked about this year regarding the Pats. Occasionally in between fellating Rodgers and Brees an analyst will point out that Brady is also having a pretty good season, but that's about it.

Bengals might cause you trouble Im not saying bengals will win. Bengals have a beast of a dline that will pressure Brady all day. AJ Green is a matchup nightmare against pats weak secondary.

Right, and if they go one-and-done practically everyone else will say, "yeah but sample size lolz."

Does anyone in here like Felger? I was just wondering as I was watching his weekly show this morning and he literally has to put a negative spin on EVERY SINGLE STORY, not matter what it is. "Hey, they threw a pass to Gronk to get a record BUT I'm so fed up with everyone thinking they don't care about individual records."

What the hell is he talking about? The pats have always taken care of players going for records, BB just doesn't broadcast to the idiot reporters like Felger. God I hate that guy.

Alright, rant over. I agree I love the Saturday night game and can't wait to go. Let's see if we can get Gillette rocking. By the way, yesterday was actually the loudest I've heard the stadium in the two years I've had my season tickets. Must have been the new years day affect.

I didn't hear it, but I assume he's talking about the media spouting about "the Patriots way" and "all that counts is winning" and "its not about individual accomplishments it's about the team." Although that rant would have been more appropriate five years ago and not really now.

I do agree that all the top teams aren't talked about enough. But that's what mainstream sports media is nowadays. It's more TMZ than actual sports discussion.

Compared to other top teams, I've heard plenty of talk about how good the Pats offense is. Gronk has been talked about a lot.

Brees has only been getting headlines the past three weeks give or take, and Rodgers has been ridiculously under the radar for how good he's been.

So yeah, the Pats are a bit under the radar for their record, but so are a lot of other teams.

Pretty sure the Pats have gotten plenty of air. They have a great offense, and a terrible defense that gives up loads of yards. What else is there really to discuss? Brady's great season was overshadowed by two other QBs playing better, Welker really doesn't garner too much attention, Gronk/Hernandez got their coverage, and there's not much to say about the defense.

Rodgers is all I heard about all season...until they lost a game. Then he disappeared, and Brees took his spot, with a dash of Tebow during the transition.

Funny thing at work yesterday: a Packers fan and Vikings fan had a bet on the UFC fight this weekend, loser had to wear the other guy's NFL jersey to work the following day. Vikes fan picked Brock Lesnar and lost, so he had to suit up in a Rodgers jersey Sunday. The whole day, he looked like he wanted to puke.

I only came to realize the full impact of this emotion when I imagined myself being compelled to wear Yankees pinstripes for a day. My God, the horror! Takes on a whole new meaning when you think of it that way...

(Packers fan was waiting for him when he came in, armed with a camera. "Come on, smile! Give me the Discount Double-Check!")

Yeah, I wasn't complaining, just making an observation. If anything I prefer if they flew a bit under the radar going into the playoffs. After last season I don't think anyone in the media was really interested in hyping the Pats no matter what they did in the regular season, they've seen this movie before. I can't blame them. I think most of us at the beginning of the season assumed we'd get into the playoffs and have been just kind of biding our time. In two weeks we find out what this team is actually made of.
