Michigan is not pursuing Paulus:

http://michigan.scout.com/2/857470.html

This blurb says they are "done" pursuing Paulus. Until I hear someone outside of douchebag Paulus confirm that M ever pursued him in the first place, I don't know if I'll believe it ever happened. With Rod's policy of only talking about players who play for Michigan, I wouldn't be surprised if he never says a word about it.

In a couple years, you'll be capable of taking care of pets.

if i continue the pace im on ill be able to take care of pets by the start of 2010. A couple years is a pretty harsh estimate.

Anybody else a little disconcerted by Tate's comments? I really hope we're not headed for Ryan Mallett part 2 here.

doesn't bother me at all

and comparing him to Mallett is quite an overreaction, don't you think

not that i expected him to play much, and nor am i shocked, but it is a bit disconcerting that we now have no quarterback on the roster with playing experience...

threet's transferring to arizona st, for anyone that didn't hear yet..

According to the Freep, with Taylor's selection at the end of the 4th round as the first UM player drafted, it marked the lowest initial UM selection since 1968. Looking ahead to next year, B. Graham has a chance to be a fairly high pick, but off the top of my head, I can't think of anybody else who projects to be a 1-4 round selection. Further proof of how empty Carr left the cupboard.

indeed...

mgoblue had a really good point..

2 camps here...

1 camp hates rrod, wants him to fail, and talks about it.

the other camp likes what rrod is doing, but is ALSO playing down expectations so camp #1 doesn't get the run of the town with a 6-6 record.

i'm firmly in camp #2, but you can now see why it seems like everything out of UM fans is negative. some of it is, but the vast majority (i think) is just staying realistic so a lower bowl game this year isn't reason to restart again.

sooooo true about the cupboard being bare.

sooooo true.

however, if you religiously read brian's blog like i do, and know about this year and next year's recruits, you really should be a glass is half-full type fan.

like, you can look at tp's stats from the osu spring game and either go:

1. wow, those are good stats, he's getting better, we'll never win against them again.

or,

2. dude, their DB's must SUCK. wait 'til they have to cover all of our florida talent..

again, i have no aspirations for this year's national championship, nor the big-10 championship.

however, i am very, very intrigued by the kids rrod's bringing in...

I can't ever remember being more optimistic about the future of Michigan football. I'm only 22, but I have followed intensely virtually my whole life. If you really want to feel good about the future, I strongly recommend buying a subscription to GBW. Not only do you get the best Michigan recruiting coverage, but you get a couple of insiders (one in particular) who really knows the inner-workings and couldn't be more impressed with the direction things are going in. And he was a huge skeptic last year. I'm not a Scout rep or anything, just a very satisfied customer.

you must remember the summer of 2007.

henne/hart/manningham/long + a sick defense.

i acknowledge the young talent, but if you're talking about 'highly optimistic', i only saw the last game of the year as a challenge..

I don't think this is really new. Been around for as long as I can remember.

Interesting UM related NFL draft stat. Since Kevin Brooks was selected by the Cowboys in the first round of the 1985 draft, UM has not had a front 7 defender taken in the first round. During that stretch, Miami has had 16, Florida St. 13, USC 11 and Ohio State 10, by comparison.

I remember it very well. I'm talking true optimism for THE FUTURE... not just one year in the future. The direction this program is heading is just awesome.

The Big Ten better take notice. In a couple of years, they won't be able to help but notice.

Angelique in the News today writes about the scheduling of UMass, but the interesting part isn't the lead - it looks like Bill Martin is an advocate of playing a full conference schedule and only two OOC games, or at least one more conference game.

the league cannot do one more conference game... an odd number of teams cannot play an odd number of games (math... yea!)

unless they want one team to play 10 games and the rest play 9, which is feasible (but screwy) IMO

I would love for it to switch to 10 conference games, but I don't see it happening. Every Big Ten program except one has 7+ home games this year. That just doesn't fit with a true round robin.

1983 Illinois 9-0 Big Ten (best conference record ever!!!!)

Agree.

I suspect that if the idea of playing one more conference game gained any traction at all the conference would revisit the idea of going to 12 schools. But I very much doubt either will happen.

The mass scheduling of cupcakes will continue until either the NCAA legislates an end to it - directly or indirectly - or the fans stop supporting it by buying tickets.

If they do go to 12 teams are they going to change the big 10 name? i know they didnt when they added penn st but itd get kinda weird with 12 teams keeping that name.

who would be the logical choice for the 12th team? with notre dame being out of the question...its kinda hard because we'd have to snag a team out of a bcs conference and i dk what rules there are against that...unless we added someone like a Miami (Oh) but thatd be kinda gay

Notre Dame or bust. Miami (OH) has no media markets (Ohio State ldo), no tradition, no academic reputation, etc. Hopefully you add ND, the Big XII drops Iowa State and Kansas State and we switch names.
