Well now that it looks like he's "safe", Benoit ($8, year 2) is available if anyone is interested. Looking for hitting particularly 2B 3B or OF but it's gotta be someone I can control at least for 2015 and preferably longer.
Could package him with a pick (or one of my SP) as well.
Bumping for Benoit, plus Jeurys Familia (on my minor league roster) if anyone is interested.
Sup guys, I'm willing to make lots of trades to help my long term future. I have lots of salary available(meaning you can improve your team even if you're at the cap!) as well as talent.
Ian Desmond $30
Alcides Escobar $30
Brad Miller $126
Chris Johnson $6
Jose Bautista $10
Domonic Brown $30
Michael Morse $19
As you can see, that's a lot of great talent! I'm not giving them away just looking ahead into the future and willing to make some moves. I can win you the title this year and/or put you in great position to contend next year. Come at me bros! Remember that I can afford to COVER ALL SALARY, so even if you don't like the cost or can't afford, I can help you out!
lol, seems like you put a decent effort into this post, no reply to my pm's is kind of weird.
Soooo, with Cargo and Prince now available .. without sounding like too much of a hypocrite (I picked up Matt Cain for $8 when he was dropped, but he's no Cargo), it's just open season and whatever he goes for, that's it?
i was just going through players and i noticed that..
seems pretty angle-shooty dropping them now insuring that they go for cheap deals before hitting FA.. like there is no reason to drop them other than to game the system we have set up.
i vote they go back on fifield's team
edit: i realize this could just sound bitter since i dont have the space to outbid anyone for them.. so definitely would like to hear what others think. just seems shady imo. the Cain drop probably fits the same criteria (though would go for way less than these two in FA) but i didnt notice that when it happened.
I dropped Cain because I don't need him this year, no angle whatsoever.
Why should any team be forced to hang onto a guy they will not be rostering next year. I'm in a pretty tight race right now, I need players not injured year 5 guys (or guys I have no intention on rostering next season).
I think if anything it just presents another dynamic to a complex league. I also believe sone owners may have anticipated this and consequently saved money to capitalize. I don't think they should be penalized if so. The only way that I can see avoiding this in the future is more DL spots?
I understand the reason for dropping Cargo, Prince, and Cain (if you want to include him) since all three are recovering from serious injuries, have zero value this season, and are all 5th year contracts, but I agree with Exit that the timing is unusual.
Fifield has the DL spots to keep those two players and only one other DL-eligible player right now (Hanley Ramirez), so he would still only gain one roster spot for an add.
Since the question was raised, I imagine Fifield would like to post his reasoning behind the drop of those two players.
If I've got someone rostered who could be a coveted impact player next season, I won't release him to waivers unless it's absolutely necessary. It's to my benefit to have every team compete during the FA auction and push the cost closer to that player's real market value.
I recognize everyone plays differently and may not give these factors much weight, but the above is why such a drop in late August strikes me as odd. Plus, Fifield does not have the funds to win the bid on either of these players, assuming the non-contending teams with the most money (and Banhammer) are paying attention to the wire.

I agree, and if Verlander gets shut down, or Pujols or whatever, I would only drop if absolutely necessary. Other teams picking up talent on the cheap does not help for future obv. But really, dropping Cain at that time was a no brainer as I had many injuries.
I've been focusing on Cargo and Prince in this instance, I just mentioned Cain because alekhine/Exit did.
Plain language edit: I'm not concerned about the Cain drop.
Edit #2: That doesn't mean he wouldn't be viewed as pretty valuable on the FA market though, so Exit still makes a valid observation. There are a few other players that you could argue this for, but I'm not going to dredge them up.

Reason: Slippery slopes

I figured most would not care as much about the Cain obv. But the problem I see is on how differentiate between the players dropped.
1 - I certainly don't blame anyone, especially any team in contention, for dropping these guys. I don't think anyone took it that way, but just in case.
2 - I think the fact we are now past the trade deadline is another factor. Whether intended or just "luck", whoever has more budget space at this point of the season can unfairly (IMO) benefit. And given the trade deadline has past, there is virtually no room to maneuver at this point.
3 - Nothing has been finalized but it was generally agreed to come up with some sort of salary floor in coming seasons. That obviously would just exacerbate this issue.
4 - This isn't even the most extreme possible scenario. Fifield (and again, not calling you out as I don't think you are in the wrong) could have dropped these guys in mid or late September. Then what happens?
I think we really need to consider a proposal where any player dropped in season is free to be picked up at any salary, but the player has to go back into the FA pool in the offseason. I personally oppose a "can't cut" list.
