I have it Carter>Datsyuk>Zetterberg>Nash.

Reason:

Carter had a great season last year and this year the Flyers are even stronger (goaltender issues aside). He has a great supporting cast and should get some #1 PP time too. He also brings a little more PIM than Datsyuk/Zetterberg and could expect to increase some too. He has around the same +/- AND if your league is counting SHP/GWG, Carter is a great pick.

Datsyuk > Zetterberg

accobra has a good point about Zetterberg maybe getting the LW eligbility but that isn't too big of a 'sway' imo. Datsyuk is on the first-line so far and does have Franzen on his wing. I just like him better and believe he'll be up better points than Zetterberg. This is mostly a preference pick though.

My backup RW is Samuelsson and someone just dropped Cheechoo. Thoughts on picking him up? As a Canucks fan, I'm hoping Samuelsson does well, and good chances if he's playing with the Sedins but Cheechoo!

I wanted to take Carter with my first pick, however the number 8 pick drafted him.

Everything looks pretty good. Not too big a fan of Hossa but nonetheless at that spot seems draftable.

Wrane,

I agree wrt everything accobra_kid said. Kovalchuk has a terrible team surrounding him, and Zetterberg is now back to being clear cut top dog scorer in Detroit now that Hossa has left the building. you're getting slightly more SOG, slightly less PIM, and (maybe) slightly less overall points. goals are worth the same as assists here, and although Kovalchuk will score anywhere from about 8-12 goals more, I don't think it's enough to warrant the significantly better +/- you get from Zetterberg. drafting an elite R1/R2 scorer who ****s the bed on your +/- is absolutely brutal. just my 0.02 though.

he's a weak #1, somewhere in the 3rd tier of goalies I'd say, probably slightly better than Varlmov/Chris Mason/Toskala but not as good as Steve Mason/Vokoun type area. obviously if he put up his 08 stats over a full season he'd be getting drafted around Fleury/Turco/Miller level but he plays behind a fairly weak team and is still inexperienced.

True about the +/-, but going into this draft, I already knew that I was going to literally throw that category away. I had a couple sleepers who I wanted Stastny/Kariya/Bogosian/Suter/Doughty who probably aren't going to put up great +/- but have very respectable points.

Considering we have assist, goals, points are 3 seperate catergories....

Besides Kovalchuk stats should go up with Little/White/Antropov.

A trade:

Joe Thornton
Chris Pronger
Dan Ellis

for

Alex Semin
Semyon Varlamov

This is his second offer at Semin and I think he's a big Caps fan. His team is...

1. (3) Sidney Crosby
2. (30) Cam Ward
3. (35) Joe Thornton
4. (62) Chris Pronger
5. (67) Sergei Gonchar
6. (94) Phil Kessel
7. (99) Alex Burrows
8. (126) Jonas Hiller
9. (131) Bryan McCabe
10. (158) Bryan Little
11. (163) Ryane Clowe
12. (190) Cam Barker
13. (195) Steve Sullivan
14. (222) Dan Ellis
15. (227) Tobias Enstrom
16. (254) Patrice Bergeron

Not a big Thornton fan but do you think I can get Ward instead of Thronton on this deal?

Ellis has little to no value beind Rinne. and he'd be a fool to just switch Ward for Thornton, so I don't think you can pull that off.

now if you could pull off Thornton + Pronger + Ward for Kovalchuk + Huet/Varlamov, I think you'd be getting a bigtime steal. but that's pretty unlikely.

Zetterberg and Luongo in the first two rounds are excellent. Getting one of the top 5 goalies is exactly what you want at this position. Nothing wrong here.

Gagne is a good, solid pick. LW is probably the thinnest foward position, so it'll be good that you can stick him in there and leave him all season. I think he missed some playing time at the beginning of last year, so if you scale his numbers up they become very good.

While I agree that PHI will be excellent this year, I think you jumped the gun on Pronger. Please don't tell me you picked him over Lidstrom or Chara. I have had two drafts so far. In my two drafts, he went 60th and 47th.

Hossa has gone 55th and 62nd in my two leagues. Getting him at 82 is extremely good value. I also think Alfie is good value. Also, Zajac's numbers are unbelievably good for 100th overall. Hopefully he can continue to leech off of Parise. He's not really someone you associate as being a top scorer, but he is.

I don't know what to expect from Mason. If he puts up the same or better numbers, you're getting a very good deal. Watch out for the sophomore jinx.

Ugh @ Montador. I also despise the Ryan Smith pick with a passion. I'm neutral to the Kronwall pick. I just don't think it's worth it to move on a #3 defenceman who won't get that PP1 time (behind Lidstrom and Rafalski).

I don't really like your other picks too much. I hope this is a PIM league, that's where Clarkson has his value.

I'd look to find a third goalie on the wire. Who is out there? Also, any reason why you have 5 RW's? I know Hossa will be put on the IR, but that still leaves you with 4. You only have 3 LW's and 2 C's -- position imbalance.

Pronger was the highest rated defenseman when I drafted him.

I took Clarkson because of his penalty minutes. The league I play in penalty minutes are worth a point a minute.

I drafter according to the below. I drafted according to the below. I did not think to take different forwards with the bn position.

If Iginla and Jokinen show the same chemistry during the season that they've shown over the last 2 weeks, both men could be in line for huge years.

i don't mind pairing hockey players as much as i mind pairing other sports team members simply because of the nature of scoring in hockey, so it's a bonus... but i wasn't even thinking of connecting specific teammates. i think the best strategy wrt hockey drafting is to identify several teams which you believe to be a cut above the rest in terms of scoring/fantasy potential, and try to target players on those teams. teams like Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and San Jose (and teams like Calgary, Washington, etc. to a lesser extent) all fit this mold.

meh I think the team that exemplifies that most is actually Washington

mainly Backstrom (PP likes him for a big year in terms of assists, and also Knuble b/c he's gonna be the RW for their 1st pp unit which should mean lots of points b/c he has v good net presence)

this, which is why Washington isn't in that top tier. aside from Ovechkin I consider most of the Boston/Detroit players much more useful than the rest of Washington (Semin and Green are good, but are ranked too high). it's much much harder to find a scorer with a good +/- off the wire than it is just to just find a scorer.

#4.

I'm 99.999% sure that the big 3 won't fall so who should I take with my 4th? H2H. It has like 6 goalie catogeries counting GP which is making me think goalie here. Getzlaf or goalie really imo.

Any opinions?
