Good riddance Wild West. The area around there will probably be a lot nicer with the stadium than it is now, or was when I stayed there in 2014. I made late plans to arrive on a Saturday during WSOP, and every decent hotel was either booked or very expensive. I thought, how bad could it be? Disgusting! The 1st thing I saw when I parked to check in was a used condom baking in the mid day sun. People staying and playing there were trashy and seedy. Bad vibes. I checked out early after 2 nights into The Orleans, which seemed luxurious in comparison.
Nope looks like there going to tear down the Tropicana hotel and put it on Las Vegas and Tropicana

Right on the strip? That doesn't make much sense to me. Seems very difficult logistically.

It's perfect for A's fans. Right across from the Excalibur.

I would be somewhat surprised if the Exaclibur was still around when the A's open their new ballpark in 2027 or 2028. At least in it's current form.

Tropicana was going to be replaced (or completely remodeled) anyway after the Bally's purchase.

While the property is technically still on the Strip, there aren't any hotels further South on the East side of Las Vegas Blvd., at least not until Dream Las Vegas will be completed. They stopped working on that because of financial issues recently.

Don't worry, the HoJo's and Motel 6 will be right there for the A's fans, too.

The lines at the Pinball HOF will be atrocious on game days.

Spoiler:
J/K, nobody goes to A's games.

We'll still have to pay goddamn extra taxes and junk fees, over and above what we pay for the football stadium.

And you have to watch out for drunk Raiders players trying to kill everyone on the roads!

3-10 years isn't too much to have to pay for a night out partying and taking a life, I guess.

Will they be keeping the name or changing from the Athletics to the Aces or something? Can still use the A’s abbreviation.

In case this is a serious question, there's already a pro sports team called "Las Vegas Aces".

They've been called Athletics when they played in Philadelphia for more than 50 years, during their time in Kansas City and now in Oakland for over 50 years.

I cant see the name changing... branding is critical and for better or worse, it's already been built up for decades.

Las Vegas Athletics sounds great to me... now just win baby. better break out that wallet, because it's gonna take money to build a team.

It was a serious question. I don’t follow basketball or women’s basketball.

Ran into a buddy on a recent trip who used to work as a waiter/etc. in Vegas for years, stated around the WSOP he was able to audition twice (failed the first), and was given a dealing job for the summer. He even admitted that he had never dealt before.

Is he pulling my leg or is the demand high enough that there is some way around having a dealing license?

For future reference, a dealer with 5 years experience, non-casino, with most games in a 13-mix would easily be able to get a job for the series?

Thanks

I had the pleasure of a dealer’s first down ever at WSOP last year. As in they had literally never dealt poker before that precise moment.

Had the same experience in the past. Won't ever forget the time the dealer told us we're his first table ever and then had misdeals on his very first two hands. No issues the rest of the down though.

I do know it's normal for Caesars to bring in already licensed floor dealers to deal poker (been happening for years). The question is more about someone with zero casino experience but plenty poker experience being hired.

If you attended one of those 4 week classes at any of the dealer schools in Las Vegas, you're basically guaranteed to be hired for the WSOP.

At least in the past the WSOP has always been understaffed.

Wow...one of our local dealers has been crowing on FB about being selected to deal in the WSOP, after passing a very rigorous selection process, and this is a bucket list item for her. She is, indeed, an excellent dealer. But she'll be heartbroken if she learns that they basically take almost any warm body, lol.

Here's an article from last year: https://vegasinc.lasvegassun.com/new...rld-series-of:

Quote:
“We went everywhere we could think of to find dealers,” Effel said. “Some are veterans who have worked for us many times. Others are people who are coming back to dealing because they had been driving for Uber and gas got too high. Some (former dealers) in Las Vegas left in recent years for places like Texas or Florida.”
That said, I'm sure there are assignments where you need a relatively high level of skill and experience. I don't think many first year dealers are working the FT of the $50k HORSE tournament.

I'll go on the other side of the tales of inexperience. I've played an event in ~6 WSOPs and don't remember any articularly bad/inexperienced dealers, nor any errors.

Could just be memory fading small stuff, or that I've run well (lol sample size). But the ones I've had have been both good and professional.

One time at a smaller event at the WSOP, I could tell the dealer was pretty new. I asked him “How long you been dealing for?”

He replied, “I don’t know, what time is it?”
