Always get a players card, and try to get comped rooms. At least get the poker rate if you can.

How does the Grand compare to the other 4 star hotels on the strip (Mirage and any others that are worth mentioning). And how far away is it from Venetian/Aria/Wynn/Bellagio?
MGM = good soft 1/2 poker room 24/7/7.
Get playersclub (now M Life) card as soon as you get there
I see MGM & Mirage as interchangable but Mirage is a better central location on the strip.
IMO, MGM to the B is walkable - the rest of your list is too far to shlep on foot. YMMV.
Poker play on your M Life card might bring your rate down some, particularly on weekdays.

MGM is my #2 hotel behind the "V" for overall personal rating. But the V has seriously tightened its comp sphincter so MGM may be my new best comp friend.

Fiamma's and Craftsteak are really good restaurants and at the moderate to high end dining MGM has a lot to choose from. Simple breakfast and lunch..not so much. Ka is a great show.

I personally love MGM. The standard rooms aren't great compared to B/Aria/etc obviously, but the casino is awesome, the multitude of dining choices are great, and the poker room is my favorite in vegas (I'm a peanut player). If you don't mind a small room, the West Wing will cut like 10 miles off your trips to the strip. You can sneak right out the west wing door, through the grand canyon gift shop and be on the strip in about 2 minutes from your room, quick trek across the strip, thru monte carlo and your at Aria poker room in about 10 minutes. Plus MGM has always been busy with a lot of people around and things going on whenever I've been there. That always makes things more fun IMO. Yeah it would be a trek to V/W but whenever I've stayed on the South Strip I've never found a reason to go north of Flamingo, everything I need is right there. FWIW

Eyeballing it on Google Maps, I'd say it's maybe about a half mile from that tower to walk out to Harmon, down and cross over, enter the P-Ho shopping area and mosey down to Earl of Sandwich.
You realize that the casino is a half mile just from the parking garage entrance, don't you? The Miracle Mile mall is called that because.... it's a mile long! Walking halfway around that circle, since it's the shortest way from the back entrance of PH, nets you a half-mile right there. Add in the distance from the casino entrance to the Earl, plus the walk down Harmon, it's easily over a mile total.

MGM sucks on many different levels. The location sucks because it's not near any other cool place. The rooms are okay, but the hotel itself is huge, so it's a long walk from anywhere you are to anwhere you want to be. It's also a pita to get in or out of that place. The parking garage is a ridiculous walk from the hotel. Valet is extremely slow because... they use the same garage. If there is any sort of little event, the taxi line gets overwhelmed, and you stand in line for 45 minutes. The poker room sucks. The floor doesn't give a crap about the players, makes weird rulings, and refuses to start another table unless the list is 20 deep. The only reason I ever played there was for the .50/$1 game, and that's gone.

I am not sure where the parking garage entrance is, but you're apparently thinking of a much longer route than you need to take. There's an entrance to the Miracle Mile on Harmon, just to the west of that light near the PH Towers. You go in there, straight up a bit until you hit the main curve of the Miracle Mile, and then follow it around to the right. The mall ends up right at Earl - there's no going through the casino and cutting back.

I'm not in a position to go walk it again anytime soon, but it did not feel like a terribly long walk.

Will be in Vegas weekend of 3/11-3/13 with 6 friends. Room comped at Caesar's. Huuuuuuge UK (college bball) fans, going to be watching SEC tournament.

Best book that is a little lively and wild to watch games at around Caesar's if we're going to be betting 2-3k collectively? I know they'll be crowded as hell for 1st round NCAA, but what's the crowd like the weekend we'll be there (conference tournament weekend)?

Oh, and what's the general atmosphere at Caesar's like? Been to LV twice but only stayed at PH and spent most of the time there, at Aria, or the V. Thanks.

Help me plan my trip. Me and 2 close guy friends are heading out on april 7-11. We have all been to vegas before. We are staying at Caesars. I have not been downtown and want to try that. I also want to try 2 unique restaurants, at least being sushi. possibly one or 2 shows. We will be going out every night as well.

Any other fun stuff we should do during the day? Ideas for the shows or restaurants? Thanks

Can anybody explain why some traffic signals in Las Vegas have tiny little red and blue lights affixed to the poles? What if any function do they perform?

If they are the same things mentioned here then they are so emergency vehicles can get through the intersection quickly.

My wife and I usually stay at Mirage, but we're maybe looking to "spice" things up a little (Hopefully <crossing fingers>). We're going May 10-14 (Tues-Sat, 4 nights). I can get Mirage for ~$370 and I can get Aria for ~$540. If we were to stay at Aria, the higher price difference doesn't limit us to eating McD's the who trip. In other words, it's not going to change what we normally do while there.

But my question is; is Aria worth ~$40/night more?

We will be spending more time in the room (at least I hope so) so it's probably a no-brainer to go Aria. Just looking for reassurrance from people who have stayed at both.

Thanks in advance.

There's a fine dining and a casual dining thread where you can find lots of suggestions.

Hover Dam isn't worth the trip, was pretty boring imo. But at least there is a watch/sign that showed me Arizona is the only continental state not using daylight savings time. So if I ever go to Who Wants to be a Millionaire and that might help..

I thought when I first stayed at PH (I almost always rent a car, therefore use the parking garage) upon walking in at the entrance near the garage, I saw one of those "you are here" maps. Trust me, I had a bad foot at the time, and was looking for the shortest possible route. From the map, it looked pretty much equidistant right or left to get to the casino.
