Had Picasso on Saturday.

A guy in the restaurant busted out his laptop during dinner. I hope he shot himself later.

Wow. Guy must have been a serious whale to disrespect a 2 Michelin star restaurant like that.

I have decided to make reservations at Prime. We are staying at MGM, but dont plan to camp there the whole weekend, and this is a reason to head to another part of the strip. I looked at all of the menus that I could find and prices were pretty consistent for the things that we are going to order. I am not against a higher end restaurant, but I dont like spending over $100/pp and leaving still hungry. Fine dining isn't a thread I would hang in that much honestly. My wife is more finicky than my kids when it comes to food, but at least she likes steak, so that is our 'nice' meal out this trip.
We went to Prime for dinner on the 7th. I was impressed by the feel of the place as we walked in. Very nice, but not too over the top for a more casual customer such as myself. As we were headed to our table, the host noticed we were both dressed in black pants and changed the white napkins with dark napkins. I was immediately more concerned. Then we were seated with my wife on the wall side and me in the chair. The chairs with sides are not built for bigger people, and the host said he had armless chairs, but we just traded places. That ended up causing issues later as I could see the fountain show, while my wife stared at the wall behind me. You couldn't see much of the show anyway, we were on the back wall.

The next issue came up when the waiter asked if we had a water preference, and since this was the first time I had been asked this I had a deer in the headlights look, so he said house water, Fiji, Evian, etc., and we said regular water was fine. I wish I had been quicker, I would have said, "frozen, floating in Jack Daniels", but that will have to wait for another time.

For the meal, we each ordered an appetizer, steak, and side dishes. My wife had the bacon wrapped prawns, filet, and the yukon gold mashed potatos, while I ordered the crabcake, peppercorn ny strip, and mashed potatoes and creamed spinach.

The prawn appetizer had three large prawns, cooked perfectly on avocado slices with a nice sauce. The crabcake was a nice sized crab cake served on an apple slaw with pine nuts I believe. Very tasty, and larger than dinner portions of a crab cake that I have had at other restaurants.

Our steaks were cooked exactly as requested, and very delicious. The ny strip I had was as tender as filets I have had at other restaurants, and the small taste of the filet that my wife was willing to share was honestly the first time that I have experienced a steak that literally melts in your mouth. The sauces that were provided were excellent, I tried the peppercorn sauce first and it was good, but the chef's sauce with soy ginger and wine reduction was perfect.

So while we are not the type for fine dining all of the time, we will definitely be including at least one meal at a nice restaurant on future vegas trips. As someone in this thread brought up the comparison of "is this worth 4x the price of Outback?", I would have to say yes, very much so yes.

LOL Outback.

Glad you enjoyed Prime. It was my first Vegas fine dining experience and it's good to know it can still impress.

I still have questions too. I used to wait tables and am pretty good at people-reading when in a restaurant but I still don't have this table figured out. It was two guys, in their 40's at least. The other guy was wearing a suit, while laptop asshat was wearing what looked like a track suit. They were sitting diagonal at a 4-top rather than across from each other. They barely spoke to each other, and while the laptop was out the other guy was looking at his phone. The laptop looked like it was open to Twitter or Instagram. I have no idea what the relationship of the two men to each other was- none of the options made much sense.

If anyone reading this is the guy with the laptop, please explain. Then shoot yourself.

Sound like laptop guy was Internet mafioso. For Picasso, he put on pants.

Gmille it's very common for restaurants to provide customers in black pants with lack napkins. It's so you don't up with a bunch of white lint all over your pants.

maybe they just wanted a bite to eat and just walked into a random restaurant (which happens to have a few michelin stars)..

curious. would you guys have considered it acceptable if he was dining by himself?

I guess I need to get out more. The 'fanciest' restaurants that we typically go to here in Seattle is Salty's, and one time at the space needle. Prices there are about the same as Prime, but the quality at the space needle is for ****, and at Salty's we go there for seafood, which is typically less expensive than steak anywhere. After this meal I will definitely be checking out higher end steakhouses.

White guys. Don't know what nationality.

One guy was dressed for a nice meal, one wasn't. I doubt they were walk-ins either (unless we're talking whales)- reservations for two were limited a few days ahead of time when I made mine. And no laptops anywhere fancier than Starbucks, in my book.

Ate at le pre catelan two days ago, overall a reasonably good experience with really good, but not great, food.

It's a little out of the way of Paris, we took a taxi from the Eiffel tower for about 14 euro, arriving at 1140. We should've waited outside I guess since they open at noon, but it was really cold. They were still cleaning so they weren't super prepared but we were seated in a waiting room. No big deal.

Around 12 we were the first and only ones seated. People would trickle in as time went on, but the room didn't fill till closer to 1 probably.

At first I thought they were doing the no prices listed thing, but it turned out they do the give the person most likely to pay the menu (which wasnt me). We both got the lunch prix fixe menu.

First came bread and an amuse

The foie gras

The cochon, pig 3 ways, the "breast" the cheek, "the rest" (I think it was ears among other things) finely chopped with a mayonnaise. The mayonnaise was overpowering for part 3 and made it almost unpalatable for me.

Cheese course, I just choose some camembert and mont d'or.

The chocolate pear dessert, it was like a chocolate covered pureed then frozen pear and ice cream

Cafe et mignardises

I'm in Munich right now heading for Prague and I've also been drinking for a while now. Hopefully I chose the right pictures, going to sleep soon, may add more description and pictures when I'm back in the states in a week or so.

Hey Guys!

My mother is going to be spending the next ~2 months in Vegas to help my brother and his baby-momma out as they have their second spawn. I'm trying to put together a must goto list for her.

Money is no object.

I suspect that she'll be dining alone most of the time, as my bro and his woman are the polar opposite of foodies (they once demanded we go to iHop instead of Bouchon for brunch). IDK if this changes recommendations or not. My dad will be out there for a few weeks, and I hope she'll be able to get him away from the VP machines long enough for some nice dinners, so it doesn't have to be all "at the bar" places.

She is very open minded when it comes to food, so authentic "exotic" foods are appreciated. So far I've got just the basic big names for her to try:
Kabuto
Picasso
Cut
L'Atelier
Lotus of Siam
Michael Mina
Roku

Basically asking for your guys' wish list.

I would replace Michael Mina with Twist, savoy, or E.

It's Raku.

Replace, as in don't go to MM, or add those others to the list?

I wouldn't call MM adventurous and I prefer the others as more of a unique experience.
