Cut, and the Nebraska was better than whatever American wagyu I had.

don't know if this is fine dining or casual dining, but $19/per person for deserts only before alcohol, maybe fine dining. Sweets Raku is a GREAT date place. Everything was really good and it's probably a nice 45 minute experience, girlfriend loved it.

1. CUT obviously, but if you wanted a good value, I believe Carnevino would be a good choice for less money. It's not a drastic price cut, but if anyone's going to complain about spending money and that's your list, I think it's a good choice.

Carnevino for steak is comparable if not more expensive than CUT.

I seem to remember it being 20% or so less expensive, but if not, then scratch that idea.

Debated where to put this question but since it involves something probably only done at fine dining restaurants, I thought I'd put it here.

Is there any place on strip to get butter poached lobster? The fiancee and I went last night to a restaurant where we live for NYE and she had butter poached lobster tail. She gave me a taste and it was great.

Le Cirque has Homard du Maine
BUTTER POACHED MAINE LOBSTER, VERJUS MARINATED GRAPES,
LOBSTER TORTELLINIS, FENNEL CONFIT, PARSNIP PUREE, SAUCE AU NOILLY PRATT,..... Listed as a main course selection on their Fall Menu.

sorry bout the caps, I cut/pasted from the menu on the website.

I've read that Charlie Palmer offers it, and have seen it referenced on yelp. Can't find it on a current menu.

Thanks. At least this time, we'll be more familiar with best route to take to Bellagio from where we'll be staying.

2 questions:
1) What’s the word on Andrea’s at Wynn/Encore? I searched and have seen no mention of it in this thread.

2) What about The Palm steakhouse in the Forum Shops? It never seems to make anyone’s short list of best steakhouses.

I’m a regular reader of this thread and have determined the following:
-This thread provides better fine dining advice than any review sites out there
-You can never go wrong with anything gobbo-approved
-The steakhouse debate reopens often and always results in same short list of steakhouses; you can’t go wrong with any of them, it just seems to come down to personal preference. I’ve decided that CUT gets the most love in this thread, so it’s the one I want to try next time I’m in town.

But, my dad wants me to give The Palm a try, claiming that the steak he had there on his last visit was “just a great piece of meat”. He spent much of the ‘80’s eating in the great NYC steakhouses on business dinners, with a particular fondness for Smith & Wollensky’s. He tried the Vegas version once and was unimpressed. I’m inclined to trust his opinion, though I wonder if he’s biased by nostalgia. Also, if it’s as good as he says, how come I never see The Palm on anyone’s short list of best steakhouses?

Banned,

I don't know about The Palm in Vegas, but smith and wollensky in Vegas is absolutely terrible.

I've been to 3 locations of The Palm but never the one in Vegas. The range from sub-mediocre to bad. The one in Dallas was one of my worst "fine dining" experiences ever.

thx for the replies...do you think discussion for The Palm and Andrea's belong in Casual thread rather than this one?

Both Smith & Wollensky and The Palm are actually very good lunch places. Would do neither for dinner though given the other options in Vegas.

when you go to cut def try the yuzu kosho butter.
i normally don't like any sauces on my steak, but this is phenomenal.

also, its a dipping sauce so you can use it as you like its not just poured all over your steak.

The Palm is barely fine dining at the two non-Vegas locations I've been to. I've never bothered with the one in Vegas, and I'm not suire why anyone would go there tbh. It's pretty mediocre most of the time, and bad others.

We go pretty frequently here in Orlando, but that's for drink specials at the bar during happy hour. When we do eat there, our general feeling is one of "meh, i could've made a better steak"

Palm is one of the restaurants that fell apart during the foodie revolution in NY in the last 2 decades.

The fact that your dad and other business types thought it was great during the 80s kind of highlight that point. Basically people's standards got higher and palm never improved.

I would NOT list it as a top 10 steak place in NY nor would I call it fine dining.

Cheers,

S

The one in NY isn't bad.

I know I'm a day late to the Palm-bashing, but I still want to bash the Palm. It is a mediocre steakhouse that by price and atmosphere is in the same class as about eleventy billion better steakhouses. If you select the Palm in Vegas, you are doing it all wrong.

As for Andrea's, I have only heard negative things but really haven't heard much at all. I can tell by looking at it though that it probably does indeed suck. It is built for the club-going douchebag crowd, and those morons don't know a thing about getting a great meal. There doesn't appear to be anything serious about that restaurant, other than the prices.

Just to defend the palm a little.... if they still do the ~ $20 business lunch (one of the options was a petite filet) then it's pretty decent for the money.

OK, that's enough defending, I'm with eco.. paying full price for dinner there would be a disaster on several levels.
