As I said earlier, I'll trust the opinion of the people on here about the Vegas one.

I want to chime in defending the palm a bit. The palm got popular because in the 1980's it was pretty much the first and only steakhouse that you could go to without a jacket. That was a big deal and made it popular in places like New York and Chicago. When you hear older guys talk about it being awesome more likely than not that is when and why they likely formed their opinion. Now since every steakhouse pretty much allows jeans t-shirts and hats that is not a big deal.

The palm does have a $20 lunch special that is a salad or soup petite filet and a piece of cheesecake, which is legit.

I was up in Vegas last Nov and ate at SW and loved it. Wynn just contacted me and comped 3 nights so I am heading back up for the PAC 12 tourney. This time I am looking at other steakhouses and with the reviews of Cut, I am tempted.

Only problem is that my wife doesn't eat steak. Looking at the menu there doesn't seem to be other choices. Anyone have any info on this? If not, where should we dine on that Saturday? We are thinking an early dinner around 5-6pm since the Championship game would start at 8pm. The games are at the MGM so not sure if I should look at Craftsteak or if there are other options if that isn't a good place. Ideally I would want Cut if it has other options for her.

Advice?

Thx!

So Cut is out cause she won't eat any of that. Should I go with craftsteak or are there other options higher up that will have more seafood dishes she might like?

OD,

Check out carnevino's menu, I think that may be what you're looking for.

One Day, Is she vegetarian? The CUT menu has chicken, pork, fish, lamb. Most restaurants can accommodate their patrons desires

OD, what does your wife eat? I mean, is she on a diet of chicken fingers and macaroni?

Diablo gave you a fair amount of varied choices. Hard for me to believe a grown woman isn't eating any of those items. Unless she's vegetarian, she should just suck it up and order something from CUT so you can get your steak.

I'm sorry for you if this is what you have to deal with regularly just to go out and eat with her.

Going soon.. Will try that
Tried stk steakhouse last month ... Maybe it's because of my really good experience at CUT.. But I found STK to be overhyped/overpriced.. And since it was 8 of us, it felt so crowded on the small table

She would want more seafood choices. Usually she likes salmon or scallops. SW was great. She usually only eats steak when pregnant or if I am grilling. No clue about that, but whatever.

She loves sushi but I don't do sushi so I don't make her do steak. Good news is, since I was comped 3 nights at Wynn I am actually paying for the fourth night and going up early and she will fly up the next day. So Cut is back on and I'll get to try it!!

only eats steak when pregnant...is that a thing??

my wife doesn't eat much meat but has never had a problem with high end places in LV. especially Wynn places, but even just normal higher end steakhouses have good options. in my opinion most of any problems you'll run into are because of her expectations that anything non-steak won't be good at a place known for steak.

for example, if you wanted to go to CUT:

"hey [wife], we should get CUT while in Vegas, i've really been looking forward to eating there."

"but [husband], you know i hate eating meat, why do you do this to me??"

"no they actually have a great selection of non meat items, in fact i was [talking to a friend] / [reading a review] and i heard that they have some great options including [whatever they have]. and don't forget, [insert ridiculous sacrifice you have made for her recently], let's do it!!"

"oh okay, that sounds good."

it might not work exactly this smoothly but over time i am pretty sure you can get the message across. really these restaurants have a vested interest in actually having good non meat items for the reasons being discussed in the thread.

People should listen to Green Plastic's suggestion as I know it works.

Although it is the fiancee doing it to me.

People should ditch the vegetarians and find girls who lift and take in animal protein.

CUT
Craftsteak
Delominco
Carnevino
Gordon Ramsay Steak

We went to Stripsteak in Mandalay Bay last year and it was very good. Looking to try somewhere new this trip
Of the 3 I've been to on your list, I would opt for CUT, with Carnevino as a close second followed by Craftsteak significantly further behind. Craftsteak isn't bad by any stretch of the imagination - very good, IMO, and with the best side dishes of the group - just that the steak itself wasn't anything particularly special, unlike at CUT and Carnevino which served the best steaks that I've ever had.

I was just at CUT a few days ago and had the "sirloin tasting" - 4 ounces of 35 day aged Prime, 4 ounces of American Wagyu, 2 ounces of Japanese Wagyu. I was thinking of adding on a couple more ounces of the latter, but it was so incredibly rich (almost like foie gras) that 2 ounces was almost too much. If/when I return, I'll have just the American Wagyu.

Where Carnevino shined for me was the Riserva steak, which was aged for ~7 months when I had it. Incredible, but definitely an outlier and not everyone is going to like it.

We had a very full meal (i.e. we ordered a ton of food) and I got caught up in the rush and ordered my American Wagyu with the extra few ounces. I would advise people not to do that as the steak is incredibly rich and it's just overkill. Definitely ate past the point of content, just because I hated the idea of not eating all of it. Extremely good steak, but don't get carried away.

Bone Marrow Flan at CUT FTW...lots of people go straight to the big beef - but definitely recommend priming the palette with this gem

Going to Vegas Thursday night, friends I'm meeting aren't coming until late Friday. Did a search and it's been a while since there was a "great food while dining alone" discussion. Since those discussions generally came down to "you can eat almost anywhere alone" that makes sense, but I'm looking for updated suggestions. I generally have no problem eating alone, but if the restaurant's main dining area is stuffy and formal, I'd prefer to sit at a bar.

I'm torn between wanting a really good steak house and branching out to something I'm less likely to be able to get here in Portland. Leaning towards the later. Actually excited to be there alone, as my usual group of Vegas buddies (and the ones who will be in the next day) either don't appreciate good food, or can't afford it.

L'atelier De Joel Robuchon was one of the last places suggested, but that was three years ago; still good? Anything better?

Hey_Porter L'atellier is the top solo dining spot in Vegas imo. The best seats in the house are already at the bar, and from there you can watch the Chefs do their thing. That way, you won't just be staring at a bartender or bottles of liquor the whole time you are there.

Food is amazing as well. Can't really go wrong.

Cool. I was leaning towards that, and will plan on it unless someone convinces me otherwise.

Before I get too excited, am I going to have trouble getting in at this point, even as a single? My options are Thursday or Friday night.

L'Atelier is notorious for telling you there is no availability when there are plenty of seats available (including this back bar area that they don't put reservations at). If you get this from them on phone, just show up (early is better) and 9/10 times you can get seated (especially as single or small party).
