PokerCast Episode 168 - Special Report: Black Friday, Aftermath of the Online Poker Indictments PokerCast Episode 168 - Special Report: Black Friday, Aftermath of the Online Poker Indictments

Good show - thought Mike Johnson was going to get more and more wrecked like some Jack Nicholson type grizzled veteran in his neighbourhood bar after getting really bad news.

Hope you continue with the show. Pretty sure the poker landscape will be a bit depressing in North America for a while - clearly ps/ftp money has provided the engine for interesting stuff tournament/media/internet wise - but my hunch is it will come back stronger, even if US players can only play against other US players, and when it does I think it will be an extremely interesting (ie boom) time for US players, but the only real reason to be involved with something like the pokercast is if you love doing it.
It is impossible to say what is going to happen so whether to go more Euro-centric or whatever is impossible to judge. See what the sites and players do (maybe high stakes players will move abroad), and what happens tournament-wise in the mean time. God luck though.

Edit - also want to say well done Bunner. Worked in audio for years until recently (was Grammy nominated for an album I worked on extensively last year for instance) and the show always sounds great - never easy even for a radio type podcast sounds like you have a quick turnaround and are working late etc).

Finally made it through the show. Super informative, thx!

Great four hour show BTW. I had a long drive today and you filled every moment of it with solid interviews and important info. Thanks

I think we need a show on single table full ring live NLHE strategy when no more than 30 hands per hour are played. I really need to know what I should be doing between hands. Take a nap, each meal, get a hooker maybe will take an online class between hands.

could someone please put in one post all the various websites (links) for the guests on this show?

Thanx

Just wanted to say I thought you guys did an excellent job, great work
04-20-2011 , 09:28 PM
I really appreciated being able to listen in on this week's podcast. Did a great job with this guys... thanks!

Thanks for putting such effort into this episode ,the pre show research must have been exhausting not to mention the four hour podcast itself, you guys did a exemplary job ,great selection of guests and interesting analysis.

However I was somewhat dissappointed ,but not suprised that Pokercast Steve failed to make an appearance. It would have been conforting just to hear him say , I cannot comment on the ongoing developments but rest assured all player funds are absolutely safe.or at least a committment to appear on next weeks show when the situation will be somewhat clearer.

April 15th 2011 is another day that will live in infamy, hundreds of thousands of pokerplayers in the US have been profoundly affected by this. The Pokercast is one valuable resource we have to help us through this crisis.

Keep up the good work, and thanks.

Just finished up the second half of the show today. Even though I listened after the DOJ announcement to refund players today, it was still very informative and finally put me in a better mood than I've been in since Friday. As soon as I got the news on Friday, I've been looking forward to this show, and you guys delivered in a big way.

Just wanted to say thanks for your hard work as always, and I'm looking forward to your show next week.

You need to get Chuck Kidd PPN CEO. Epic guy on Quadjacks

Awesome show this week, guys! Very informative, the three of you obviously put a lot of work into it. Was happy to hear that my tPiR fail horn suggestion was a good one.

It was sad listening to you guys discuss the future of Pokercast, especially knowing the current sponsors future marketing budget looks bleak. Even though you guys cover a lot of the same headlines as other media outlets, your high level of journalism mixed with a healthy dose of humor made the show my favorite poker podcast out there.

One suggestion to cover a budget shortfall for production costs (Subway, Maker's Mark, etc) would be to make the show viewer supported like public radio in the US. I listen to a couple other podcasts that ask for view support, and once or twice a year they ask for donations and I'll ship $10 or $20 to keep them going. And if we do not make 100% of our target, we could stake Adam "Never Lose in 2011" in good O8 games until we reach our goal.

Keep up the good work guys.

Great show this week, all 12 hours. It was actually an amazing podcast with great guests. Without the U.S. online influence, I can see the podcast being a lot like the old Rounders show.

This nicely sums up how I feel. I don't have time to try and stay up on these issues by reading about them in the forums, but I have plenty of time to listen at work and I look forward to the podcast bringing me up to speed every week.

As a US player, I'll keep listening regardless of where you take the show, but feel free to have Prof. Rose on as much as possible! I love hearing all the legal developments from a law professor - feels like I'm in law school again!

Great, great show!

Both Prof Rose and Bill Rini were great - whoever found them and booked them needs an extra 6" on next week's sandwich. Personally I found Dan a little long-winded and light on the show, but no one can doubt his passion and tenaciousness. As for your leadoff hitter Mr Sunshine, well that one statement of gloom might have been a misstep, but have we not all said something we wished might have come out differently looking back?

It was a superb show, and I do hope you'll stay in touch with these guests as time moves forward.

Was sure it was gonna be Donny's funeral from TBL, but that'll work too.

As a US player, I agree. I'll still be listening every week.

Great show this week guys. I really hope you continue to make it; it sounds like you want to.

As far as what kind of stuff to cover, I think you have to give a lot of time to the US situation. Not only does it directly affect a large % of your listeners, but it has an indirect affect on every listener. It's also huge news obv.

Continue to cover international happenings that are of interest to people from various locations. This will probably have to include more international stuff than you do now, but I hope it's not at the expense of US developments.

One bit of doom and gloom that we can put behind us in the near future.

I also have to say that I have been looking forward to The Pokercast all weekend. You all put together a show that really exceeded my expectations by a long way.

I would also hope that the Pokercast will go on without online poker on the big 3 sites in the US (I did reactivate some accounts on a couple of the sites that still operate -- not knowing if I will be able to cash out my winnings -- so no harm in discussing our remaining options.).

So the only topic I haven't heard about yet is what do US players do with T$ or Step Tickets? (I still have an hour left to listen to in case you did mention). If we can't play, WTF can we do with them? Sell T$ on the cheap? Still leave Tickets.

Thanks again gents!
Don't sell you T$ ..... see Pokerstars FAQ below
http://www.pokerstars.com/usaplayers/faq/

What will happen to my tournament tickets and T$?
All pending tournament tickets and T$ balances will be converted to an appropriate cash value and added to your existing balance. This process may take some time to complete, but we plan to complete all conversions over the next few days. We appreciate your patience

What will happen to my FPPs?
PokerStars is currently reviewing options for redemption of FPPs by US residents. More information will be available in the coming days and weeks.

I was not trying to be a cooler - Todd Terry did a good job at that. Just trying to put together the pieces....

Don't be surprised if the next budget meeting goes something like this

Thanks! The FAQ page on Pokerstars for US players is extremely helpful and reassuring. Stars has put a link to their FAQ page on their pokerstars.com page (supplemented by the DoJ abbreviated statement). I saw that Tilt also has gotten their .com page back, but not seeing any kind of FAQ's.

It doesn't look like there will be a value associated with elevated VIP statuses -- that is too bad because we worked hard to move up and get the VIP benefits. The monthly freerolls for FPPs were awesome.

Guys, I just finished the podcast today and it was terrific. Thanks, and especially thanks to Bunner who probably had to stay pretty late getting such a long podcast uploaded. Hopefully that second Subway sub is good next week.

A couple minor notes:
1) Technically tax day in the US was not April 15 this year. It was moved to April 18 due to Congress fighting over tax cuts and other assorted stuff. So the fact that this came out on April 15 is most likely not due to anything related to US taxes being due.

2) Dan Mah-how-skee is how it was pronounced on the Poker Beat. Pronouncing his last name wrong is killing you guys on the Bluff awards It's not a big deal to me but he may prefer you to pronounce his name differently if it is indeed pronounced that way.

You are correct that it was 4/18 this year but that had nothing to do with Congress fighting. DC celebrated Emancipation Day and the IRS head office was closed on Friday the 15th.
