forgot to share my round from last week.

slop 118 rating 70.2

ball striking was ok, but I scrambled very well and didn't make any huge mistakes. The back 9 isn't even a legit score because i ran into a 5some of ****ing idiot hacks that didn't let me play through, so i skipped a hole and a half.

No score. Practice round. Hey the cold temps knocked the mosquito count way way way down!

Had a 90 yesterday, had a I'd guess 10 footer for 89 on the 18th but hit a pretty bad putt and mis read it anyway. Also had a dog come up to my ball on one of the par 5 greens and picked up my ball and ran away with it (I did get it back though, dog better not be stealing my proV1). I couldn't stop laughing afterwards and ended up 3 putting the green because of lack of concentration. I'll chalk that up to variance. Also hit a sick 80 yard blind wedge shot to a foot when I thought I air mailed the green.

Pretty happy with the way my game is progressing, I'd consider that a pretty sub-standard round, and to get 90 out of it means I'm improving. I believe I had 3 double bogeys and 1 awful triple, so just turning those into bogeys will get me to 85. Now it's a matter of making more par saves.

43-46-89. No birdies, 3 doubles and a triple. Yeesh.

Have lost pretty much all ability to hit a driver. Hybrid also sucked, so I stopped using them. Irons, strangely, were good and I even had a little extra distance. Chipping so-so, putting abysmal. Probably had 42 putts, too annoyed to add them up.

On the bright side, still way fewer mosquitos which made for a very pleasant morning.

Oakmont, 78.
What can be said except perfect shape as always.
Driver was a little shakey but hit my long irons well and putter was on the money.

-1 going into 9 and bogey the short par 3. played the back 2 over which i was really happy with as it is the tougher 9. 1 birdey, 3 bogeys and no doubles which is the first time i think i have ever done that

yeah, I was sticking my irons and putting lights out... I should have had 4 birdies that were bogeys due to hitting 3 off the tee. I probably should just stick to hitting a 3 iron off the tee but I love hitting driver, lol me

Beat finished bogey, dbogey,bogey.
Variance hit 3-wood uphill into the wind on the 225 yd par 3 7th. knocked in the 13 footer downhill right to lefter in the top on the cup.

posting three scores this week with differentials of 6.9,6.9 and 8.1 knocking my index down 1.7!

40.

Holy hell was it humid. Anyway I hit my driver solid, but was well back all day because I kept either pulling or slicing into the treeline costing me like 80 or 100 yards of distance. I had to punch out of borderline unplayable lies 3 times. I've got some swing issues to work out. Didn't make any putts again but also didn't 3-putt, again.

Did hit huge fairway drives on both par 5s and birdied them both though.

38-44-82. No birdies, 1 double bogey.

A little better than yesterday. Actually hit a couple good tee balls on the front nine before reverting back to being unable to put any kind of swing on the driver. Made first putter change of the season and that also worked well on the front nine. Missed a couple short ones on the back though so it may go back to the bench.

Putts 32

pretty short course on Long Island. It was super windy throughout the entire round. Kind of a last minute round as a little warm up as we are playing Bethpage Red tomorrow. This track was pretty wide open but pretty heavily bunkered. Some tough approaches with quite a few holes having front bunkers that required the proper yardage but hitting some short irons in a lot so not too bad. My second round of the year and my ball striking was so much better. Worked a bit on the range last weekend. Started off hitting some quick hooks but got it straightened out on the back. Greens were rather slow and I couldn't find the touch. Birdied 18 for the 79 tho which was nice. Haven't played Bethpage Red yet so looking forward to tomorrow.

53/39 = 92.

*sigh

Couldn't hit driver to save my life on the front and got myself into all sorts of trouble. One minor swing adjustment, and everything clicked.

That has to be up there in terms of Dominic's question re: biggest difference between a front and back nine.

52-49 = 101

1 par, 11 bogies, 4 doubles, 2 worse.
6/14 FIRs, 1 GIR, 31 putts (1 three putt).

The worse:
7th - 392yd par 4 - With the wind blowing hard from the left & OOB right, I decided to play sensible & play an iron from the tee. Unfortunately I shanked it 20 yards into the nearest tree, just about rebounding in bounds. 2 shots later I'm in position to go for the green & hit a sweet 7 iron that just drifts left in the wind. Left of this green leaves you 6 feet below the hole with a vertical bank in front & a bunker behind. My ball had rolled up more towards the back of the green leaving me a tricky pitch over the corner of the valley caused by the bank. This, combined with being on a really tight lie results in me skulling my pitch into the bunker, skull my bunker shot into the middle of the 1st fairway, duff a pitch, then take 2 more to get on the green. 1 putt for a 10.

15th - 426yd par 4 -Sliced my drive right, hit a tree with my second. Hit more of a tree root than my ball with my third (ouch!), back in play with my 4th. 5th ended up just short of the green, pitch & two putts for an 8.

This was the same course I played last week but it was playing a lot more awkward with a stiff breeze for the first 14 or so holes. However, I'm a bit disappointed that I saved 11 shots on the 2 holes on which I made 12s last week but lost 4 shots over the other 16 holes compared to last week. My slice seems to be creeping back into my game so I'm wondering if I'm getting complacent with my new grip, back to the range this week. Goal for next weekend is to break 100, want to be in the low 90s by the end of June.

Bethpage Red 71.5/126 6555 Par 70

41-40-81
FIR 3/14
GIR 5/18
Putts 29
up/down 4/11

Felt like I was scrambling the whole round. I putted pretty well which essentially saved me. I could not hit my driver today for the life of me. Lots of quick hooks. I'm taking the club back already closed and I usually play a draw so it is a compounding problem with my normal swing path. Pretty happy with my irons overall though today. I had a shot at breaking 80 with a par on 18 and sure enough snap hooked one into the fescue, found it, but proceeded to make double.

First time I had played Bethpage Red. Very nice track. Lots of doglegs and position off the tee is very important which made my life difficult today. The grounds crew is letting the fescue grow as you progress out of the rough so you can't really spray it all over the place. Greens roll very true but don't break a whole lot. Another crack at Bethpage Black on Sunday. Hopefully better off the tee.

38-39-77. 3 birdies, 1 double bogey. 5/13 fairways (1 with an iron), 5/18 greens, 28 putts

Started off poorly with three bogeys in a row, rallied to make a string of pars, then birdied 9, 10 and 11 back to back. Had a decent chance to make it four in a row but left my 15 footer from off the green short. Doh. Doubled 15 with a three putt, bogeyed 17 and 18.

Still awful with driver and hybrids weren't very good either - except I am ridiculously good at hitting the giant hook around trees.

Played today. Some good, some bad. Didn't really keep an accurate score as we were gambling and they told me double was the worst I could make.

Driving the ball really well though and they noticed a difference in my distance and accuracy. Was long driver or 2 of 4 a few times which has been a long time coming.

Wedges were pretty good. Putting was pretty good but then my distance control went to AIDS as the round wore on - though I wasn't going through my normal routine. Was rushing things a bit.

Long irons and especially hybrids were awful. Lot of slices into trouble. Didn't hit 1 good hybrid all day which sucks because last time out I was mashing it straight.

Had 3 or 4 GIR. Not real close birdie putts though. I don't think anything inside 10'.

Best hole was probably a 450 yard uphill par 4 into the wind. Hit a strong drive that faded a bit and got chewed up by the wind and settled on this side of a berm (links course). Lie was crappy and it was playing a little over 200 but I didn't think I could get a clean hit with my hybrid so I choked up on a 3i (ball way above feet) and hit a great strike that settled on the green about 15-20' past the pin and then 2-putted for regulation par on a very tough hole.

Hit a 9i on a par 3 just left of the flag that landed just short of the green and kicked like 30 feet right then 2-putted for par. My partner had hit just before me and landed his about 20 feet right and short of the green and his somehow kicked left toward the flag and he said "member bounce". So after I hit mine right toward the flag and it kicked way right I declared "guest bounce".

Unfortunately I got stuck in 2 bunkers today and could not get out. 3 strokes in the first one and still not out so just picked up. 2 strokes in the 2nd bunker and still not out. I'd say I need to work on these. My home course has 3 bunkers so I am never in them anymore. This course had bunkers all over the place and frankly I'm lucky I was only in 2 of them. One of these bunkers was just short of the green on a par 4 I almost drove. Had it been 1.5 yards right it would have rolled right beside the bunker and onto the right half of the green. Then hit 3 shots and still wasn't out LOL. Should have been a birdie or par at WORST.

36-39 75 on my home course (6650, 73.4/138).

Wind was just howling (and swirling hard). I ended up making two doubles, one on the hardest tee shot on the course (right is OB, left is fescue/rocks) which plays way downhill, and it was blowing 25-30 right in our faces (my hat blew off after I snap hooked one OB). The other was on the next hole into the same wind, which I hit a 6 iron from 152 plugged into the left bunker... then I got cute with it. I also hit an 8 iron from 120 10 yards short on another hole into the wind, and hit an 8 iron pin high from 200 on the 18th hole when the wind had subsided a bit, but still helping a lot.

Really excited about the way I'm hitting it... realistically the wind was probably making the course 3-4 shots harder (at least) than normal. Problem is I don't have a solid knock down right now... and I hit the ball sickeningly high.

Also, I left about 3 bars hanging on the front edge, and missed a 6 footer on two. My 4 birdies were on 4 of the hardest par 4s on the course, and missed all the easy par 5s.

I'm playing on Thursday/Friday, so hoping for some calmer conditions. Course is finally in pretty awesome shape (Boston area).

50-50-100 (par-72, 68.9/125, 5890 yards)

1 birdie, 2 pars, 9 bogies, 4 triples, 2 quads
8/14 FW, 2 GIR, 11 GIR+1, 32 putts, 6 sand shots, 4 penalty strokes

Easily could've been a much better score. Had only played this course once before, and that time the greens were really fast. They were fairly quick today, but not in as great a shape (fairly sandy, but still rolled pretty well). Left a bunch of putts just short.

Highlights:
Loading my bag onto my cart I saw two Asian guys in the parking lot putting their golf shoes on. Not to sound too stereotypical, but I didn't want to get stuck behind them. So I took a few quick practice putts, then drove over to #1. No stretching, just one practice swing, and I saw they were on the back tees of the same hole. Then I ripped a perfect fade right down the middle of the fairway. Best drive in months. Probably about 250, which isn't all that long (especially with the wind behind me), but it's a lot longer than I've been hitting it lately. Left me with a LW from 90 yards, but I hit it a little higher than I wanted it and it barely made it onto the front of the green, leaving me with 60 feet for birdie. Ended up with a 3-putt bogey.

Hole #6: 313-yard par-4 playing into the wind. I popped up my drive a bit and had 155-160 left. Hit a 6-iron that started slicing. When it landed it either hit a tree or the edge of the cart path and caromed back into the dead center of the fairway about 25-30 yards in front of the green. Pitch shot ended up 1 foot past the hole (I think I saw it catch the lip of the cup), tap-in par.

Hole #12: 449-yard par-5, nice drive right down the middle leaving me with about 225. I could see there was water in front of the green and down the right side of the hole, so I hit a lay-up with a 7-iron. Ended up a worm-burner, but it went straight and left me with 80 yards or so. Hit a LW ten feet past the hole, sink the putt for a birdie. I don't think I've ever had a birdie on a par-5 before (except maybe a really short par-5 with the tees way up).

Lowlights: finished quad-triple to blow my chance of breaking 100. Hit a nice drive on #17 but sliced a 5-iron approach into the water. Dropped a ball short of the hazard, then thinned a LW into the bank on the other side of the hazard. on 18 I hit another nice drive, then hit an ugly low shot into the water. Dropped a ball about 120 out knowing that I needed to get down in three shots to break 100. Distance was good, but I hit it with too much of a slice and it trickled into a bunker. There was quite a big lip to hit over, but I played it really well and it ended up pin-high five feet left of the hole. But then the putt turned left at the last second and missed by inches.

Overall the driver felt really good, especially on the back (hit 6/7 FW on the back, although one of those was a topped ball that just barely trickled onto the fairway). Irons were a bit better than the last two rounds, although I'm still fighting a slice. Short game was very good, tons of nice pitch shots, no duffed chips, and out of the 5 times I went into the bunker I was out and had a 21-foot or shorter putt 4 times (the one time I didn't get out of a bunker right away was a longish bunker shot, so I don't feel too bad). Putting was decent, I guess, but there were probably 6 or 7 putts that I just barely missed or left a foot short.

Made my first ever birdie.

290y par 4 (it might have been a bit shorter even, but the scorecard said 290 from the whites. the course was in rough shape)
Crushed my drive perfectly and ended up hole high in the middle of the green with 10ft left for eagle. I lost sight of my ball and couldnt believe that was actually me in the middle of the green until I got close to it.
Missed the eagle putt 1.5in right and about 3 ft long. Took me sweet time and knocked it in for birdie

The one time I drove a par-4 green I 3-putted.
