Im only 20 mins tops from the Links. Dont feel In quite good enough to warrant dropping that much on a round just yet. Interestingly enough a kid I went to HS with is a club pro at The Links.

You ever play South Hilld in Hanover, PA? Irs literally no more than a 3 minute drive from my place, has 27 holes, and I never pay more than $20 with golfnow there... Naturally I dobt go many other places often.

Watch golfnow for the links too. I played it in the afternoon about a month ago for like $25. Looking at it right now, there is a tee time in about an hour for $26.78. Well worth that price.

All the other courses up there I haven't played since the mid-90s with the exception of Quail Valley which I played about a month ago with friends. Played 36 on a Saturday for $60, and it was in decent shape. I know where South Hills is, but don't remember it. Carroll Valley was always an interesting course up there. Greencastle Greens wasn't bad either.

Played the back 9 at my local course today. 2nd time on the back 9 all year?

9, 7, 8 first 3 ( crap tee on the 1st, OOB on the 2nd, hardest hole on the 3rd )
4, 4, 3, 5 next 4 ( birdie on a hole I've maybe bogeyed before ... good tee shot + a 9 iron dead nuts + 20 footer miracle on the hardest green on the course birdie )
8, 8 to close up shop

56

You can see where I had no swing oil, my swing oil peaked, and then my swing oil overtook

Kick me in the jimmy

+7 42/+7 43 = +14 85. Usually only play 9 while walking, but I got off work earlier today and there was nobody out in front of me so I decided to play the full 18. No single part of my game was particularly on today, but I hit some good shots in all aspects of the game. Decent 18 hole score for me all things considered.

I play the majority of the time from the "blues" or longer. I hit the ball farish, but everywhere with my driver. I play tees around 6500 normally, but varies for the course obv,

I hit it the ball much farther than the wifey but she is a much better short game play than me. She plays sometimes from the "whites" on course but I try and force her to "reds" so whenever she plays, "if" she beats me there is an excuse.

38-44-82. No birdies, 1 double. Money inside six feet, awful elsewhere on green. Mediocre ball striking day though I did clang one off the stick on a par 3.

Cool. I just feel like unless you're actually an old man or have limiting injuries then it's mandatory to play from the furthest tees. Playing from the whites is very forgiving if you miss your tee shots with semi hookish/pushed shots 190-220 yards which only leaves you 160-170 to the pin on average. When you play blues these missed shots often leave you 200-250 from the pin which really challenges you. I never ask the people I pair with to play the long tees or anything as I understand the majority of people just want to get a round in on their days off from work/want to enjoy themselves but if anyone is attempting to challenge themselves then ya gatta play dem blooez.

I've never played there but asked a friend about it because I've seen a few deals there on golf now. He said ehhhh it's ok.

Just did a quick google search and saw 2.3 out of 5 stars.

Hope that helps

This seems like an overly simplistic attitude. Not everyone is the same skill level- the whites (or whatever tees are next up from the tips) ARE a challenge to a lot of players. Additionally, it's not just about wanting to challenge yourself. The game should be fun too, and hitting Driver-hybrid (or more realistically, Driver-hybrid-wedge) into every par 4 just isn't going to be fun for most players. I agree that if you are hitting Driver-wedge or 3w-8i into every par 4 that you should probably move back, but I doubt many recreational players have that issue.

Saying "if anyone is attempting to challenge themselves then ya gatta play dem blooez" is pretty much ignoring the point that the whites ARE a challenge for most players. I just am not sure what you're getting at here. In my experience the average recreational golfer shoots >90 (if not higher) the vast majority of their rounds, even from the white tees. If that isn't challenging themselves, then I think perhaps you and I have different definitions of the word challenge. Yes, the tips would be more of a challenge, but at some point it's just overkill for no reason at all. IDK, maybe the level of play from randos at the courses you usually play is higher than the ones I play at, but I almost never see anyone playing the whites who should reasonably be playing the tips.

37-41-78. 2 birdies, 2 double bogeys. Way too many lip outs this weekend. Birdied 13 and 14 to get back to +1, lipped out a 2 footer on 15 and then doubled 16 and 17. Boo.

Play is already slow enough. We want people playing from the shortest tees they're willing to play.

And honestly if were a hack I'd play the shortest tees available to pump up my confidence.

^ Your point about play being slow is fine enough. The second one though is purely opinionated as there is a substantial amount of people that would feel short changed if they shot a good round from casual tees

Yeah I understand that. It isn't for everyone but getting in the habit of making more pars and birdies can do wonders for your confidence.

But I get that some people would rather shoot 95 from the whites than 89 from the ladies tees.

shot 78 on a 70.8/132 today.. lots of target golf which is something I really struggle with

have made some changes to my grip and just hit my 3 wood (which I can hit 260-280) instead of my driver (which I hit terribly).. did wonders for my game

41-36-77 par 71 new PR!

Highlights:

- GIR pars on the two longest par 3s (playing 205 and 195 yesterday)
- Hitting driver 8-iron into 517 yard par 5 and 3 putting lol. At least it was my only 3 putt.
- Birdie on toughest hole, 457 yard par 4 with a huge carry over fairway bunkers then stuck 9-iron to 6 feet.
- Even par over final 11 holes.

Been playing my best ever lately, can't wait to get out there again.

My stay in the 70s ended in spectacular fashion. I knew I didn't really belong, but still.

52-40-92
6597 yards, 72.1/136

Beautiful drive on 1, 7-iron to 15 feet, two-putt for par. Easy game! Then just absolutely blew up. Course has a number of forced carries, and on many holes the blue tees were paired with the black tees (6900 yards). I just didn't hit anything well at all. I was happy I kept it together enough to post a 40 on the back, closing with four straight pars. Also was happy that while I was DFL in our group on the front, I still beat everyone overall by five shots or more.

41-42-83
6261 yards, 69.2/117

Played with my father-in-law the next day. The last couple of times we've played, it goes like this:

- He gets an early one-shot lead, then says, "It's time to put my foot on your throat!"
- I pull ahead, then build a three- or four-shot lead going into the last three holes.
- I collapse, giving him a chance to win (which he really cares about).

I was up four shots going into 16, which I bogeyed and he parred. OK, no real damage. Then I doubled 17 while he parred. Well, now I'm a little nervous. Then I put my drive into the trees on 18 while he pipes one down the middle. He's in the cart giggling like a little girl while I'm looking at my options. "Oh, you're really in jail!" I slice a low, screaming hybrid just off to the left of the green with a wicked sidehill lie ... somehow chip to 5 feet and make the putt after he leaves his birdie putt about a foot short. Whew.

Best round of my life yesterday!

Shot 34-33 -67 (-5) at the Links at Union Vale in NY from the back tees

73.4/138 6,954

This was the third time in my life I've broken 70, the other two were 69's and the last one was at least five years ago.

6 birdies 1 bogey (1 birdie was a chip-in)

11/18 GIR

11/14 Fairways

26 putts

I was so nervous on 18, I knew I needed a par to shoot 68 for my best round ever...it's a 600 yard par 5. I had 105 in for my 3rd, and knocked it to five feet and made birdie!

I was so pumped all day after that.

Nothing as exciting to report played fourball betterball and won by one. Slight improvement over recent rounds. Still having horrible problems off the tee, Pull hooks and a few tops just for good measure.
