LondonBroil.....describe your game a little. What shots give you the most trouble. Can you get off the tee? Any clubs that you simply can't hit?

I'm sure there are plenty of faults in your game with the scores you posted but if you give us a little more info we may be able to come up with some simple stuff for you.

Nothing is easy about this game and there isn't really any shortcuts. You have to put the work in.

Cheapest and most effective way to drop a ****load of strokes is to spend time on and around the putting green. Hit the range a little, but I would focus on stuff 100 yards and in.

Shot a 54 on a par 35.
triple-triple-bogey-bogey-par-bogey-double-triple-quintuple
the string of non-doubles is my best streak ever.

My playing partner was super competitive and always makes a big deal out of scoring. I told him I don't like to keep score (because I suck.) I was up 2 strokes coming into the 8th and we were even on the last tee. Of course this psyched me out and I threw down a 10 on the par 5.

The thing that tilts me the most about his constant attention to the score is his tendency to drop in unbelievably favourable spots. I don't mind if people do this to make it funner but when he mentions how he is tied/beating me it makes me mad to see him chipping 10 yards away from the green when his ball was more like 60 yards away, behind trees and he couldn't find it.

It was so annoying I don't think I'm going to bother calling him up to play.

Hmmmm, let's add my score up.

single, triple, par, par, double, double, single, single, single.

47 on a course that I average a 41 on.

Good news though. On 6th tee me and my buddy decided to make it interesting, $20 straight up over final holes. He is probably 1 stroke a 9 better than me on this course which we both play all the time.

I won, lol with my +5 over the final 4. It was sad.

Ugh, where to start. I'm so unpredictable that it's hard to say. I'll have 2 or 3 holes each 18 with nice drives (straight, ~220 yards) but the rest I either top the ball and it lands 80 yards away or shanks off way to the right. Adding to this problem is that if I don't have a great drive, I'm not great at the irons either and can easily take 3 or 4 shots just to reach the green.

I think my main problem is that I'm 6'5" with longer legs and a shorter upper body and I think my clubs might be too short, even though I have a basic +1Tall length set ($150 Confidence set lol). I've measured from my wrists to the floor (pretty sure it was 44") and it said +1 was the right length for me, but several of my friends have mentioned that my irons and putter look short, sometimes bordering on ridiculously short.

I'm probably most proficient and putting and chipping, probably because I chip and putt several times a year, although I still have a ton of room to improve there too.

I'm gonna head to the driving range sometime in the next couple weeks and try to take some video. The problem is that as a beginner it's hard to be consistent. I could probably hit 10 drives and my swing would be different each time.

40-40-80. 1 birdie, 2 doubles. 10/13 fairways, 13/18 greens, 38 putts.

First golf in 10 days. Had nightmares overnight that I would have terrible ballstriking issues. Um, wrong. Instead it was all the putter. It's like the Poa all died last week - the greens were much faster than usual and I just couldn't adjust. Kept ramming the ball wayyyy past and missing the comebacker. 5 three putts. Pretty much a waste of a superior ball striking day. The only birdie involved hitting a 5 iron to three inches.

Also on the plus side, I did manage to go 3/3 on greens hit out of the sand. No, I didn't get up and down 3 times (1 actually), I hit the green. That's a huge improvement on my average this season. My sand game is sad.

Shot a 71 on my home course today... first round under par ever! Hit 16/18 greens; my combined length of putts made couldn't have been >30ft.

I'm so mad right now. On my way to my best round ever, despite the fact that I couldn't make a putt, when a huge storm rolls in out of nowhere on 15.

My ballstriking today was on point. 8/9 GiR on front with the one I missed ending in a double bc of a ****ty bunker shot out of a crappy lie. 8 birdie putts ranging from 5 ft + and I couldnt sink one, but did 2 putt them all.

So +2 going into back where I continue my good run; I hit 4 more GiR out of 5. Again getting a double on the missed, and again 2 putting the ones I hit.

First time ever I actually felt like my game was good enough to have a shot at par if a few of the putts would have dropped. Let's hope I can remember what I was doing tomorrow.

70 (-2) at The Ridge at Back Brook in NJ at the Ridge Invitational- pro + 4 from 18 different clubs in two rounds net + gross. my best round in relation to par ever, even with two three putts.

our pro won the tourney, i was low-am, and our team came in third, all in the wind and rain.

I played a US Open qualifier there three or so years ago. 25-30mph sustained wind with gusts up to 45. Dead into the teeth of the wind on every 440+ par four, and the rough was like the jungle and the greens were the fastest greens I've ever played on (had to be a literal 14 on the meter). Played it a week before for practice and it was a totally different golf course.

What am I trying to say? That course is ****ing hard. Nice round.

thanks. memorable moment:

eagled the 18th hole par 5 downhill then uphill dogleg right with environ sensitive area in front of the green. nutted a drive followed by a 235 yard 3 wood (20th century callaway hawkeye) to 2 feet that was on the pin from the moment it left the face. it was a fantastic feeling, one of the best shots i have ever hit.

Poor iron accuracy plus complete short game FAIL.

Only third or fourth time out this year, and shot a 77 today. Shorter course with a 117 slop, but I could have scored well on a lot of course. Just hitting it where I wanted to. 13/18 greens. "Should" have been two strokes lower, as I missed two three foot sliders for birdie. Played the back nine at even par until a bogey on 18.

A lot like yesterday with slightly better putting.

Played for the 3rd time ever today and shot ~100. Next time out I will be strict with my scoring to see what I can actually do.

For the most part I was very pleased with how I was hitting the ball. Best drive was ~256. Only had a few horrible drives, the rest were pretty solid. Hit my irons pretty good, need some work on my 3 and 4. Used my 3 wood for the first time today which ranged from excellent to downright ugly. Pitching was hit or miss, and I am still horrible at putting.

Hit par on a hole for the first time, I think 3 times actually.

Golf is a lot more fun when I can hit the ball for the most part. Still a LOT to work on...too bad I'll probably loose w/e I have over winter.

A lot of people that say they shoot 100 or better aren't counting all their shots. I'm not saying this is always the case, but most of the time, they are not counting lost balls, or take drops where not allowed (lose a ball OB, drop one and say you're hitting 3...still not by the rules). They give themselves putts. There are a plethora of things these players do to help their score out without even realizing that they're not posting legit numbers. Of course, they're not doing it maliciously either. They just don't know better.

I should add that you wont get better if you don't know what you're trying to accomplish. Take a lesson.
