Had two birdies on two of the first three holes and then ended up shooting 47 for the front 9 (lol bad luck).
First hole easy par 5. Duff a drive 100yds left into a ditch (1 out of 50 this might happen, didnt want to go right OB) Hit a 3wood closer and then stick a 6iron 15feet away and make it.
Bogey a par three and then hit a 6iron close on a par four dogleg left, mounded green, from another fairway and make the putt = wow. 1 under.
Then go bogey, bogey, double on a par 5 (rushed a 3iron from another fairway because I didn't want to wait for slower group on the tee then hit bad pitch from some hardpan (next time I go to fairway fk that etc etc).
Then I make a quad after my ball lands on the cart path on a tight handicap 1 par four and jumps into the woods. Hitting on three, drop, mi**** a 6 and lands in an unfortunate small drainage ditch, dropping and hitting on 5 end up making a snowman. Disappointing to say the least. Then catch another bad break when I actually pull a nine iron into a ditch on the next hole by trying to stay ultra centered over the ball and not turning my hips out enough on the backswing or something.
Had an epiphany on the back nine par 3 where after fatting a 5iron bad thought, what the heck am I doing wrong. I realized I am not worried about the bottom of my arc and am getting too tense in the backswing. Aka too tense or "snappy" at the top (it really is all about the downswing if you have decent position) Starting goofing off on every hole and was knocking four balls a hole onto the green or general area with consistency for about three holes.
I actually starting flying 7 irons over from 150 out and starting using 8iron. On the last hole adjacent to the driving range, I take out 4 balls from the white plate marker and proceed to hit four on the green or fringe no problem (8iron). The two guys must have thought I was pretty, pretty good. I will have to go to the course today and see what this new swing thought does for my game. I see no way it could work and then not work. I mean this is how people get good right?!!
(The swing thought for all of us hackers is this, take the club over the top of your right shoulder and as you reach the top of your backswing, be conscious of centrifugal force and where the bottom of your club is going to end up. Also keep the club firm but not too tight as medium pressure is ideal. Keep yourself free for the force you are going to excert as your hands start dropping down towards the ball etc at the bottom of the swing and just release the clubhead. Yes you will hit thin and fat still every once in a while like every golfer for the rest of your life, but forget about overcorrecting every little thing and focus on hitting the bottom of the arc and let the body naturally close the clubface back to square by the naturally turning of the hips toward the target etc)
P.S. I hope I didn't jinx myself by posting my new swing thought
