putted like dog piss which is really annoying because I feel like I've been working on my putting a lot lately and thought it was improving. I did notice myself falling back into some old habits that I've gotten away from on the practice green.

But the greens were slow and I left way too many 12'-15' puts 3-4' short. Not to mention the greens had some massive undulations. But even though they weren't too tricky.

Really nice course though.

I hit the ball pretty well, need to work on my mid irons though.

I realized that I should switch back to the Titlist NXT Tour. I was playing the Bridgestone E5 because I liked the feel and it had more spin. But I really lose yardage off the tee, not to mention I find more fairways with the NXT because I hit larger fades with the E5. I've been playing the E5 for about 5-6 rounds now because the feel is great. But I average 10 yards longer off the tee w/ the NXT Tour and the feel of that ball isnt too bad. Also I hit my irons so high that the extra spin isn't too big of a deal for me. I mean unless the green is abnormally hard my 5i doesn't move more than 5' from where it landed. I'll just have to play a little more roll on pitch shots and cant expect the ball to check nicely. I figured if I fixed my swing so that the fade isn't a prboblem I'd go back to the E5 but if I ever get good enough where I feel my swing is fixed I'll probably spend more on balls and go with Pro-Vs

Had two birdies on two of the first three holes and then ended up shooting 47 for the front 9 (lol bad luck).

First hole easy par 5. Duff a drive 100yds left into a ditch (1 out of 50 this might happen, didnt want to go right OB) Hit a 3wood closer and then stick a 6iron 15feet away and make it.
Bogey a par three and then hit a 6iron close on a par four dogleg left, mounded green, from another fairway and make the putt = wow. 1 under.

Then go bogey, bogey, double on a par 5 (rushed a 3iron from another fairway because I didn't want to wait for slower group on the tee then hit bad pitch from some hardpan (next time I go to fairway fk that etc etc).

Then I make a quad after my ball lands on the cart path on a tight handicap 1 par four and jumps into the woods. Hitting on three, drop, mi**** a 6 and lands in an unfortunate small drainage ditch, dropping and hitting on 5 end up making a snowman. Disappointing to say the least. Then catch another bad break when I actually pull a nine iron into a ditch on the next hole by trying to stay ultra centered over the ball and not turning my hips out enough on the backswing or something.

Had an epiphany on the back nine par 3 where after fatting a 5iron bad thought, what the heck am I doing wrong. I realized I am not worried about the bottom of my arc and am getting too tense in the backswing. Aka too tense or "snappy" at the top (it really is all about the downswing if you have decent position) Starting goofing off on every hole and was knocking four balls a hole onto the green or general area with consistency for about three holes.

I actually starting flying 7 irons over from 150 out and starting using 8iron. On the last hole adjacent to the driving range, I take out 4 balls from the white plate marker and proceed to hit four on the green or fringe no problem (8iron). The two guys must have thought I was pretty, pretty good. I will have to go to the course today and see what this new swing thought does for my game. I see no way it could work and then not work. I mean this is how people get good right?!!

(The swing thought for all of us hackers is this, take the club over the top of your right shoulder and as you reach the top of your backswing, be conscious of centrifugal force and where the bottom of your club is going to end up. Also keep the club firm but not too tight as medium pressure is ideal. Keep yourself free for the force you are going to excert as your hands start dropping down towards the ball etc at the bottom of the swing and just release the clubhead. Yes you will hit thin and fat still every once in a while like every golfer for the rest of your life, but forget about overcorrecting every little thing and focus on hitting the bottom of the arc and let the body naturally close the clubface back to square by the naturally turning of the hips toward the target etc)

P.S. I hope I didn't jinx myself by posting my new swing thought

I don't understand golf at all.

After a week of averaging about 110 (with a low of 104) playing by myself on this course:

I played a round here:

and shot 50-43=93.

Uh, maybe it's that 131 slope that's been kicking your ass.

Isn't that second course at least 5-7 strokes easier for you, generally?

Played in a scramble, 9 holes. We were -3 which was an obvious non-winner.

I'm really getting killed lately by poor tee shots. I have a decent but not good success rate with stingers (keeping it low, usually trying to hit a small fade) but regular swings are going into the trees at an alarming rate.

played one of my most solid rounds ever today hit 15 greens and a par 5 in 2, -2 without holing a putt is pretty impressive for me, I'm usually much more of a scramble it around guy. Struck my iron incredibly well, even the few slight mi****s I had were close to online still hitting the green. Only bogey was a missed 2 foot putt, a bogey free round would have been nice

79 - Only my fifth round of the year. Course is a 6400 yard, Donald Ross with the smallest greens in Florida. It is one of two courses the city championship is on in November that I working into form to compete in again. Felt good with 27 putts with only 3 greens in reg. Distance control with wedges and short irons was way off. Feel I can break par on the course if I can put tee ball in fairway and control my distance on wedges, since I feel totally confident on these greens.

I was on vacation and playing these courses for the first time so I can't really say what the difference would be generally. I definitely thought the second course was much easier, and I posted the scorecards in part hoping someone could tell me how much easier (since I don't know enough to determine what rating or slope really mean). Maybe you can elaborate a bit for me?

shot a 91 last weekend,,,,50-41-91...that was good for both my lowest 9 hole round and 18 hole round ever....didnt take my driver out of the bag all day except to go off the deck 2 times on par 5s(both great shots fwiw)

then i shot a 47 yesterday....was at 35 threw 7 holes....8th hole was a par 3 about 158..stuck a 7i to about 12 feet n proceeded to 3 putt for bogie and then on 9 had a complete blow up and made an 8..coulda been a great round, still a stroke or 2 better than i usually shoot and it was for sure nice to play 7 holes of really good(for me) golf...but it really stung to play so good for the majority of the round n then blow up

77. Shot about the worse I possibly could today. Greens were dried out, concrete like, and doesn't help being some of the smallest greens in the US. Was 5/18 for GIR, but 27 putts helped. Hit a flop shot on the 17th that went about 20 feet high and landed straight down with backspin. Hit the green with a thud and bounced 4 feet back upward. Anywhere else it would of either stopped or rolled a foot at most.

44 on a 36; 3160 69.0/117

Lost a ton of strokes on putts today. Could have easily broken under 40. New course for me, and by far the fastest most featured greens I've ever played. It's also the only course I've seen recently that hasn't yet aerated their greens, so I could actually have confidence in my lines. Basically either the putt went in or it just kept going sometimes right off the green. It seems like something to get used to, and I expect to be playing this course again.

My irons and long wedges were really outstanding today. Put a PW 125, a 9 150 uphill, and a 7 180 downhill within 5 feet, and was probably about 75% hitting the greens overall.

Mostly teed off with 3h and 3w because I can put them on a spot, and the way my irons were working I just wanted a clear second shot. Hard to say what the distances were for both, because every hole on this course is uphill or downhill. Maybe 210 - 230 without elevation?

89 (not sure i counted every single stroke though) on a fairly tough course. front nine tight but short, back nine long but fairly spacious.

trying to fix my driver swing with some success seems to have adversely affected my irons.

GOOD: 4 pars in a row coming in. lots of good shots from 200 yards. not sure if it's the lack of rain on the prairies but i seem pretty comfortable out to 220 yards now. not sure what else. amazing van de velde shot on muddy hazard ball. hit it 160 yards to within 10 feet. was in alot of mud. basic pitching/short irons had some decent moments.

bad: so much stuff. don't think i've had a legit up and down in the last two rounds. oh yeah, i holed a pitch today so i guess that counts. but really nothing good on short game. finding 60 degree is too unpredictable on courses i don't know. gonna go 52 and 56SW and learn to hit sand wedge like 60 degree. lag putting was pretty awesome (slow greens at supposedly elite course). some nice 7-8 footers, but after terrible lag putting.

terrible: driving still causes a ton of problems. i used to be gold from fairway bunkers. not sure what happened. can't hit them worth anything.

Late fixes: tried to go back to old swing for non-driver. seemed to work well. tee the ball higher and hover the club for driver. worked wonders on last two holes.

need to work on everything.

My 2 brothers, my friend, and myself shot a 61 in the cold and wind today to ship the UNL student golf scramble! We started out awful, barely managing 3 pars...but proceeded to finish -11 over the rest of the 15 holes, including -6 in our last 6 with 2 eagles. The competition wasn't elite, but it was a good event and a lot of fun.

Our score was not bad considering we had planned to practice several times over the last couple weeks, but were too busy to hit the range even once.

Another intramural 2-man scramble is Sunday, the results will likely not be as good due to Husker gameday drinking all day Saturday.

Fort Myers Country Club. Its an 1910's Donald Ross design. Most of the greens are elevated surrounded by bunkers and slopped off around the edges. Greens are rock hard lately, but still not that hard of a course being 6400 yards.

There are greens 10 paces by 10 paces. One par 3 is 7-8 paces in width, 20 paces in depth. But if the pin is in the back right, their is a bunker that protects it with it being 3-4 paces by 5 paces in the quadrant. If you hit the front right you can't putt it with the bunker in the way.

-3 68 Today. Doubled the first hole, but that solved a huge problem for me. I play left handed, noticed I didn't have my left index finger down the shaft. Which caused my left hand to twist at impact causing the club face to close. Slight change gave me back the 25 yards I lost over the last two weeks and go 16/18 for GiR compared to 5/18 the day before.

39-46-85. Decent round, I guess. Did manage two birdies and had two more somehow miss when they looked like they were going in dead center. Faded at the end, having some ankle problems.

45-46=91 on a par 67 today; weird course built around a mountain. I walked it carrying clubs as a single in 3 hours and really started fading at the end (sadly out of shape). Front nine was pretty consistent, mostly just bogeys with an occassional double. Back nine started with a crappy triple when I hit a nice drive into an (unknown to me) creek running across the fairway. Recovered with a par, then a double, then a bogey, then a double, then a par, etc etc. Driving was pretty good, approach shots were terrible, putting started good and got worse as I got tired.

57 - 54 - 111 -- tougher course 71.4/125

I was simply dreadful of the tee, plain and simple... I probably had 12-15 penalties. What I think is happening is I have spent so much time working on my irons that my iron swing creeps into my driver swing, I definitely do not sweep in many cases while on the and its clearly ****ing me up in that case.

Good news is I loved and have loved my iron play as of late, I have not topped or anything like that in a while. Most of my misses are when I catch it a little fat but its only sacrificing some distance and my bad shots are lack of distance control or accuracy not in overall striking it seems.

I would basically hit an awful drive, take the drop + distance in most cases then hit a solid recovery long iron then a short iron wedge onto the green and 2 putt over and over again.

I did break a club out of pure frustration though, hit a ****ty drive left that bounces around in some trees but pops out leaving me a long but simple shot on a par 5 so I grab my 14degree hybrid which I never hit now because I am just so inconsistent in that its either fantastic or god awful with no in between and its usually god awful. I hit a terrible bouncing worm burner left and about 3 ft into some trees... I snapped the club over my knee through it into the trees and say "now I will never be stupid and hit that damn club again" I proceeded to punch out sideways and hit a solid 5i 200 yards but cost myself 2 strokes in the process... so stupid (but not anymore )

45-46-91. So bad. Got off to a great start - drive took a bad bounce into the trees, chipped out perfectly, shanked a wedge into a bunker, launched bunker shot across green into driving range. FML.
