The folks that use the argument of blood money are just full of it.
How often do you hear athletes say they do something for the money? Do Tiger and Lebron say they went with Nike over Adidas for the money?

To be fair Casey is one of the best English pros of all time, Gooch/Ortiz were/are considered young rising stars and Uihlien is a former US Am champ and #1 world ranked Amateur.

This is the LIV golf thread....

It's not like im going in other threads spamming people need to watch LIV. I enjoy PGA AND LIV. It's great the weekend after seeing Tiger return at Riveria we can watch Cam Smith hit unreal recovery shots from cart paths. Along with the other cool story lines on the PGA this weekend like Chris Kirk, Cole and Monday qualifier Gerard. Fans of golf should be happy there is this much high level professional golf currently being played.

Funny I saw that clip of the chicks which was funny. CH3 I wouldn't call a no name . The leaderboard at the Honda was a bunch of no names . I clicked to the Honda and was like hate the course nobody I recognize and watched LIV

Those are brutal ratings for a first time event up Against a PGA event with no top players.

I do think LIV is doomed

Weird thing about Liv is that when I read about the results I'll see a name, and realize I had forgotten they were still playing. It's almost like they retired. They are in some sort of weird twilight zone where they're making more money than ever but no one cares about what happens.

That's not to say the Liv players regret their decision. They are making huge money and I'm sure they feel like they hit the lottery. But as a golf fan it sucks, because a guy like Cam Smith would be out there challenging Rahm and Homa at the Genesis, instead he's in limbo where no one really cares if he wins or not.

I was like wonder how much Charles Howell has made on tour and shocked at 45 million. Wow and yeah I get the older players going .

He has had the most amazing career that no one has noticed. I don't remember him ever contending in a major, he's never been a prolific winner. Yet he's kept his card for 20 years or whatever and binked a few wins along the way. It's unusual to be that consistent for that long without high highs and low lows along the way.

He was a cut-making machine. According to PGA Tour profile he made 467/609 cuts and had 98 Top-10s.

Another beneficiary of the Tiger effect. Pre-Tiger I wonder what kind of living a player of his caliber would make. Post-Tiger, he makes $45million.

I stumbled across this "LIV Golf Insider" account. It almost has to be a parody but I think it's sincere?

There are a bunch of them. One more comical and delusional then the next. The one with the guy that thinks he's a "citizen journalist" has to be the most insane person on a site full of insane people. He blocked me so I can't recall his handle

It truly is fantastic comedy. Pat Perez being a "Top 10 player and no one can deny it" is probably the worst. But claiming that it is clear that the 340,000 fewer people who didn't watch the Honda this year watched the LIV tournament instead is up there.

With LIV seeing the reactions to the new PGAT changes it would be funyn if LIV increased field sizes and added cut events.

Saudi Arabia Thought Golf Could Save Its Image. It Whiffed.

If the LIV Golf startup was meant to rebrand the kingdom, a year of foreign agent controversies, 9/11 evocations, and events at Trump properties hasn’t helped.

Quote:
With an assist from armies of Washington lobbyists, communications pros, lawyers and strategists, a golf story that began with splashy hires of top sports talent has evolved into a minefield of hot-button, distinctly non-athletic Beltway issues, from antitrust, foreign influence-peddling and human rights to 9/11, national sovereignty and Donald Trump.
Quote:
Last summer, Roy, a Texas Republican, called for the Justice Department to investigate the golf league for potential violations of FARA, suggesting that even the golfers themselves were effectively part of a foreign influence operation due to PIF’s ownership. At the time, LIV’s spokesperson pooh-poohed the idea. But that was before LIV’s lawyers started saying in court that PIF was an essential part of the Saudi government and hence protected by sovereign immunity. Even though the judge didn’t buy the argument, it’s the sort of thing that could prick up the ears of some federal FARA prosecutor.
Quote:
Late last year, amid reports of struggles to break through with sponsors, LIV parted ways with a number of the sports and communications veterans who had launched the league, notably Chief Operating Officer Atul Khosla, franchise director Matt Goodman, and Jonathan Grella, a Washington veteran who led communications. The league vowed to assemble a “world-class team” for the second season of golf competitions.

They’ll need it. Back in Washington, the more fraught political competition continues: PGA’s newest lobbying hire is Jeff Miller, the GOP power broker and one of the closest associates of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Fred Couples calls Phil Mickelson a ‘nutbag’ and Sergio Garcia a ‘clown’ in speech for the ages

Quote:
Couples mocked Smith for saying he could now have birthdays and go to the weddings of his "mates.”

“I find that comical,” Couples went on to say. “Because my favorite to ever play has five kids, 40 grandkids, and he has never missed anything—and that was Jack Nicklaus.”
