It’s all very Trumpian. Blame others for division and demand that commentators be fired for giving opinions they don’t like. If GC deems him not worth the baggage he will be gone. Otherwise just lol

Your insane if you think any sports league is going to roll out in 1 year and be a home run. The events were all well attended, and the coverage was no worse than early UFC who almost went bankrupt (they had problems getting tv stations to let air them too but didn’t have endless money like LIV).

PGA caved bc they knew they were going to lose in court. That and there was no end it sight to bonus money being thrown at too players which they were going to take. There was no end in sight. LIV and the PIF got sick of negotiating throwing bonuses at guys to come and hope they did and had enough quality players to grow more teams for profit. If they were such an utter disaster the PGA would have just laughed and let them die off.

In the end lol at all the suckers that listened to a billionaire like Tiger Woods about golf purity, and Rory McIlroy who is worth more than most any of them ever will dream of being and passing on the cash. They’re all pissed and deservedly pissed at all of them that spouted all the hypocrisy of 9/11 all the way to the PGA Tour traditions and walking down Amen Corner that they might be jeopardizing for life etc. All were misguided by that garbage.

I couldn't care less if he stays on or not. I'm just saying what I think will happen. Did Tucker Carlson not bring viewers to fox news? At the end of the day the golf channel basically works for the PGAT, do you think Jay and Yasir are going to want him to continue to ramble on and embarrass himself and tour like he did on PGA championship Sunday? Chamblee is either going to have to eat crow and do a complete 180 on his stance or be fired imo.

The bolded is pretty funny and given the amount of money being thrown around beating the UFC that went bankrupt as you mention is a laughable comparison.

But I agree that the only reason this got to this point is because the bottomless money pit that the PIF/Saudi's have. Any other interpretation is laughable.

I agree the pearl clutching over 9/11 was a bit over the top but I don't blame those that looked at that and worried.

In the end I don't really see how a foreign fund owning the tour more or less makes the game better but who knows.

Doing so for 2024 would be a way to make whole some of the embittered players who turned down mega-offers. Says one LIV exec, “Now we can finally get Hideki [Matsuyama] and Jon Rahm. I would say every big name on the PGA Tour will get an offer. Except Rory. Nobody wants that little bitch on their team.”

Does anyone else think that this merger occurs if Brooks Koepka didn't win the PGA and the LIV players didn't have such a strong Masters?

Yes. Probably helped minimally but the lawsuits and the piles of cash are what made this happen

I can't imagine that results from 2 tournaments are what drove this.

I guess it is more about what players both tours were potentially missing out on (and therefore sponsorship of tournaments) which was the point of those performances by the LIV players in those majors.

So what day was "darker":
-The day the greatest golfer OAT was nearly killed and whose golf career basically ended;
-the merger of PGA Tour and LIV.

I wonder if this was the longterm play of the Saudis to begin with - start a competitive league, pay them a lot of money, and hopefully make a deal with the PGA at some point. They must of lost a lot of money with LIV thus far, but their pockets are so deep they can sustain it. The good thing with golf is there are no stadiums/arenas to build like in football or basketball - they took a major hit overpaying these guys but that was the bulk of their expense.

Yes, certainly goin in hard from the getgo was a strategy. Like a bike racer attacking early, showing no signs of being tired will certainly scare other riders.

Even if LIV lost a ton, it didn’t seem to matter as they portrayed a bottomless pit of money. Heck Messi was offered over a billion??? Wtf!

This is interesting.

Monahan will decide the future of LIV.. Norman must not be happy...

https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id...yers-want-back

Dunne said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan would also have oversight of the LIV Golf League under the new agreement, giving him the authority to determine whether the breakaway circuit will continue beyond this season. Monahan will serve as CEO of the new, yet-to-be-named entity; PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan will be chairman.

PIF invested more than $2 billion into the league being fronted by two-time Open Championship winner Greg Norman in its inaugural season in 2022. LIV's lawyers revealed in federal court records obtained by ESPN in February that it generated virtually no revenue last year.

While Norman has told LIV Golf's staff members that the league was making plans for 2024 and beyond, others at the highest levels of the sport don't seem convinced that the LIV Golf League will survive beyond this year. Multiple sources have told ESPN that if there's a team concept in future seasons, it won't be in LIV Golf's present form and won't include Norman as its CEO and commissioner.

Monahan said he would wait until LIV Golf League's season ends in November to evaluate whether the team-focused circuit had a place in golf's new global ecosystem.
