lol oh man

I once tossed a sand wedge in frustration and it snapped in two.

I also often toss "bad" balls into lakes and ponds. And by bad, I mean balls that are not doing what I want them to do.

I don't understand taking out frustration on a club. It's not the club's fault.

A mouse or a keyboard never caused someone to take a bad beat......

Did you not read my post? We know it's not the club's fault. It's the ball's fault.

Back in the day, I played 6-max online for a living...I used to buy cheap, $19 keyboards ten at a time because after a particular bad beat - BLAM! - I'd smash that keyboard to pieces.

Then I'd pull another keyboard out of the closet.

I haven't broken a club since that sand wedge...I'm playing more of a "zen" golf game now.

I worked at a pretty nice CC in my HS and college days. I was prone to snapping shafts. I got them replaced for free in the shop. The first time I had to pay for one was the last time I broke one.

So this def started after Canyon Gate then?

Also re: bad beats, I have a fixed hole in the wall from my heel going through it. Likely from a Step 6 on PS.

Hey, I didn't say I was a Zen Master...just playing more "zen-like."

But damn, that Canyon Gate round was the most frustrating round I've had all year.

Thx for the lols =) Always smiled at people stocking up on keyboards and mouses Never tilted with those. Do have some tilts at brick and mortar and at snooker table, but surprisingly little at online poker and golf. This year one buddy threw his club as high as he could and it stayed up a tree. Was at 20 feet for a couple of weeks untill wind blew it down. Another guy kept throwing his club to the woods once in a while, and his gf kept bringing it back. One time he threw it again and before it landed "AND YOU BETTER LEAVE IT THERE!"

Thinking about match play strategy for my upcoming member/guest. We play 5 9 hole matches. Scoring is not traditional match play as the more holes you win by, the more points you earn in a match (up to 5). For example, if you win a match 7 holes to 2 you earn 5 points. Win 4 to 1 you win 3 points, etc.

My partner, we will call him Mr. Consistency, is a 2 handicap. He isn't flashy but is a steady, make par kind of guy. I will be playing to a 6 handicap, so if he is the low cap of the foursome I will be getting 2 shots per match (handicap goes off the lowest cap in the foursome).

OK my thoughts are to take driver out wherever I can to get as close to the green as I can to have as little club into the green. Basically a "go for broke" kind of play to try and make birdies, at the risk of hitting in the water/ob off the tee. The only exception would be on the holes that I get a shot, I would play conservative and try to make par (net birdie).

Is my thought process good? Only drawback is leaving my partner hanging and it's all on him when I take a penalty stroke off the tee.

I think playing conservative and always having 2 balls in play wouldn't work nearly as well in this scoring format.

Thoughts or opinions?

Counterpoint : Having 2 balls in play/on in reg on the scratch holes can give your partner more leeway on his approach/birdie putts.

What holes on each nine are the ones you could get strokes on?

Most importantly, if you plan on playing this way, make sure he tees off first, always

Guessing we use white tees:

#5 South - 390y dogleg left. From those tees there are trees left which can block you out and a bunker right (over the bunker is a lateral). My normal play on that hole (from the blues) is to hit hybrid to stay short of both left and right trouble if I miss fairway and leave myself in the 180-190y range.

#7 South - 389y dogleg left. I hit hybrid or 3 wood here when I play the blues because driver goes through the fairway and I am blocked by trees. Getting the right turn on the ball here with the driver gives be 110ish to the green as opposed to 180ish if I lay back. Missing the fairway left is jail with trees/ob. If you are not OB you are chipping back to the fairway.

#11 South 350y dogleg right. From those tees it takes 250 to get past the dogleg for a clear shot at the green. If you are shorter than that and right you will be blocked out. Water left off the tee.

#15 South 392y sweeping dogleg right. My standard play from the blues is to take my full 2 club lengths, tee it high, and go over the trees. From the whites that play is not available because the trees are too close. Water left, OB right. Almost always plays against the wind.

---

#4 North 366y dead straight. Trees/lateral water left and right. From the whites I think my hybrid can clear all the fairway bunkers.

#9 North 340y sweeping dogleg left. Water the whole way left of fairway and ob right. My standard play is to hit any club in my bag into the water left.

#11 North 340y dogleg left. Water left all the way down the hole. Trees/jail right. I hit hybrid off this tee as to not hit through the fairway.

#17 North 361y dogleg left. OB left and water right. No matter the tees I hit hybrid/iron to not go through the fairway.

Jeez. I know these are the toughest holes, but screw all those doglegs

Is he longer off the tee than you?

If yes, then I suggest playing conservative and since you'll be hitting your approaches first he can be more aggressive when you are on the green with an easy par.

If no, then let him tee off first and wail away when he's safe off the tee since you can assume he'll make par most of the time when he is safe.

For the most part you play no different than a normal round. 6 handicaps don't have "different games" you can just haul out at the drop of a hat. You start trying to play a different style and you'll look like a 16 instead of a 6.

And you let the lower handicap tee off last. He has more game, let him have the choice. If the first guy hits it in the piss, it's easier for the better player to suck it up and hit a good shot.

Check the scoring and it's a max 6 points per match. +1 for a hole win, -1 for a loss.

Confirmed today that I will be in the first flight. So with the group that has a +3.9 player I guess that I will be getting a couple of shots in that match

Me coming around "keep the ball in play" mentality.

how fast can you play a round with a golf cart and no waiting for players ahead?

6600 yard course

2 decent golfers...... don't care that much on lost balls/penalties or being incredibly diligent on putting.

wondering as i may be able to play a really nice course but 90 minutes before sunset tee time - due to my own time constraint.

A friend and I that regularly play together and both like to play fast can play 18 in just over 2 hours. I think if we only had 90 minutes we could make it happen.

"Can it be done?" is a different question than "should it be done?".

How different is a "really nice course" from an average one if all you're trying to do is to get through it as quickly as possible and not caring about how you play at all?
