how do people play this shot?

say 20 to 30 yards from green in heavy rough? pure carry to green... could be tight or non-tight pin....

i try to flop with very lofted club but i invariably hit it ok but come up short.

should i flop it with 9 iron or something like that?

there is i think where my short game will be going....... learn how to hit high and low with many clubs...

thx in advance

u think bubba could train and be competitive in LD?.......... most of the other PGA long hitters i would think just aren't big enough compared to most LD players - sadlowski = 1 exception.

Found someone for my member/guest. His handicap is a 10 so guessing that I fall into the second flight. If I stay in the first then I guess we are on the bottom and getting shots on several holes.

The tough part was going back to the old partner and asking for money. I wasn't going to ask for any cash since he had to fly down for this. When I talked to him after he backed out he said let me know how much half is and I will pay. Found out the price, told him and he responded "oh I thought you found someone". Tough spot as I am not going to ask someone to drop $325 for an even where he is doing the courtesy of playing last minute.

I hate spots like this.

Old partner ended up shipping me the cash but it guts me to think of stuff like this.

Watching the long drive on DVR.

439!!!!!

Also Justin James has the smoothest looking 145 mph swing in history.

Wait what, you're making the guy that's not playing pay even though you found someone else? Am I missing something? Why would you do that?

Don't see how one could hit anything but a sw/lw in thick rough. Play it like a bunker shot kind of, gotta commit and accelerate through. And practice it.

He backed out 5 days before the event. I wasn't going to make him pay anything but he offered to pay half. I told him don't feel obligated to pay at all. I'm sending him his tee gifts so it's not a total loss to him.

I couldn't really ask the new person I got at the last minute to pay anything.

Went to Titleist Thursdays fitting today for the new 917 driver.

Base line was my 915 D3 8.5* with Fujikura Speeder 757.

I hit the 917 D3 in the same loft and started dialing it in. Really didn't take too long and ended up with basically the same setup I have now (same shaft, loft) but with the 14g weight in the draw position.

Dispersion with the 917 was much better than my 915. Distance wise I was gaining about 10 yards on average. Longest was 299y at 115 mph, 2700 spin and +0.3 AOA. Funny thing is that one felt a touch off of the toe too.

My average spin numbers were in the mid to high 3000's which is obviously way too high but that's the chief and not the arrow.

He also showed me how I was attacking the ball. I was coming across it (outside to in) by 9* and then leaving the club face open 6*. Add all that up and that's how you get a nice slice with high spin numbers.

He was surprised to see my grip and those numbers. Basically I'm just a big old mess. If I were ever to learn to straighten out my swing I would love to see the results from that.

I also tried the 816 H1 (19*) hybrid and that will be soon replacing my G25. Dead straight and about 230y.

skytrak would be perfect for you. you likely already know how to fix it, but you need the constant feedback to know when to fix it.

Nice, do you use a normal 757 or Tour Spec? I currently have the TS in Stiff. Your best shot being a little off the toe isn't surprising actually. My best drives are generally a bit up and/or to the toe, and for your face/path a toe strike will rip a lot of your slice spin off of it.

Trying to come up with a team game to play when you have a mix of 3 somes and foursomes is one of the more annoying challenges in golf.

Simplest is probably scramble w/ an extra shot for the 3somes, rotating hole by hole. So one guy gets to hit twice every shot on holes 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16. Assuming you can get decent team parity it should work out well. Also have individual competitions like CTP on par3s and long drive on Par 5s (2nd shots don't count for these ldo) for extra fun

What we use is a stableford format.

All net scores:

4 pts - Eagle
3 pts - Birdie
2 pts - Par
1 pt - Bogey

Add up the points for each player in the group then divide by the number of players in the group to get the average, then compare.

So I had my first in what likely will be a series of lessons. First step we are working on is for fixing my swing path. I bring the club terrible from outside to in creating a pretty healthy slice. First lesson went pretty well and I was even able to produce some draws.

I will say that this is going to take some lengthy time on the range to get the swing to be "normal" to me. The next toughest thing to do is how to swing the club on the course in the mean time while I am working on this. Until I get it down I will have a two way miss as opposed to my current one way miss. I should get a good hour on the range before I play tomorrow morning.

The next thing to fix is my grip. Currently it is causing me to hit a high ball with every club in my bag. Not worrying about that yet.

Went to an indoor range/clubfitter, used their Flightscope for a half hour to distance gap my irons/wedges. I hit between 6-10 shots with each, and the results were interesting.

The biggest revelation was my Tin Cup-like confidence with the 7 iron was actually well founded. 9 of my 10 shots with it were in the 160-170yd carry range, and the last one was me trying to utterly bomb it & succeeding (85.2 Club speed, 120 ball speed, 179 carry)

My averages with the 7i : 165yds carry, 79.0 mph clubspeed, 112.7 ballspeed, 1.43 smash, 15.9* launch, 5400 backspin, -516 sidespin, 28yd peak height, 6.0 seconds hang time. My deviation numbers with the 7i were similar to my wedges, and if I removed the bombed one it would have been much much better.

A long time ago a friend went to a lesson. After the handshake friend took up a club, pro went: "Your not gonna hit with that grip, I hope!". Said friend also hits long but it´s spray and pray and the pro had his work cut out for him. Changes did not stick.

Should really take lessons myself I guess. Well maybe next spring, might as well again push it forward. Did take one with a buddy, wanted my posture to be more in check and don´t disagree. Do have trouble with balance as I kinda fall forward.

Gl with the process, not easy to get the changes coded into the brain and also then not fall into the past patterns. And yeah in the meanwhile playing for a score might some days be interesting.

i'm still going strong off the tips in those video's i posted a while back. my main issue is just consistency (day to day, not shot to shot). Some days, I just seeming have little balance and play like crap.

The good days, I can fade or draw my driver for about 220-230 (longer then I have ever been) and my irons, to a degree, the same, but I kinda prefer not to try and control them yet and just try to stay straight.

My chipping has gone to **** lately though which bugs the hell out of me. I need to forget everything else when I chip and just go all feel, but me brain wants to grip 'properly' now. I step away constantly now on chips to regroup.

all sim, still haven't gotten out to play yet....

Yeah I might be skipping the club championship in 3 weeks. I should be able to hit the range almost every day to practice though. I don't really want to practice one thing and go on the course with a different swing.
