I dunno why but I find that watching the Drive, Chip and Putt championship (with the sound muted of course) is very relaxing. Springtime in Augusta. Vibes are high.

Not even mad that 7 year old girls chip better than I do.

Watched the NLU episode on Argentina today, looks like it would be an incredible place to visit.

Guy at work is trying to run a golf pool and is using the format from the Masters' site.

https://www.masters.com/en_US/news/a...ial_rules.html

Rules seem simple...you field a roster from 5 categories and lowest score wins. But, the Masters site doesn't address players that miss the cut. Would their score just be whatever they finish at? Say +6?

If so, how do you handle it if you pick someone that makes the cut and they completely fall apart on the weekend and finish at something like +11?

Seems odd that their score could actually be "worse" than someone who missed the cut.

Encountered something new, a guy I played with T.C. Chen'd a putt. He had about a four footer, after the double hit he had 25 feet coming back.

would not put it past the likes of zalatoris or other serious tour pros to pose before willingly sweeping in birdie putts with their own chin butt

I played with a guy once that whiffed on a putt. First hole in a work scramble and happened to get paired up with him. I think he hadn't played in like 20 years. We didn't use many of his shots.

on the same day....and i'm not kidding:

some guy claimed that a forecast with 30% chance of rain meant that it would rain in 30% of the STATE of NY.

also as we were putting:

"FORE ON THE GREEN!!!!!"......(we all duck)....."THE OTHER GREEN!!!!!!"

So one course I play at is a short 9-hole course, and I'm wondering how one should interpret their "environmental area" with respect to keeping score. The scorecard says that you shouldn't enter the areas and should consider the ball as lost if it goes into them. However they also state that Out of Bounds is defined as the perimeter of the golf course and the driving range, without mentioning the environmental areas. I'm not sure if when they say the ball should be considered lost if they actually mean that the you have to take stroke and distance as if it is out of bounds, or if they simply don't want you to enter the area to look for or play your ball, but can still drop as though it is a hazard in spite of the terminology of it being a "lost" ball.

There's no marking of any kind I believe.

It's funny, I didn't mention that these areas are basically bodies of water for the most part, smallish lakes and ponds. I'll check next time I play if there is indeed no marking apart from signs.

Environmental areas are almost always played as penalty areas.

But by the strict letter of the law if the scorecard indeed says lost then you treat it as such. I’d definitely inquire about that in the pro shop though. If that’s the case it certainly sucks.

I asked the guy behind the counter today, and unsurprisingly, he didn't know the answer and only offered that he just drops as though it's a penalty area. There is a teacher there that would probably be a good candidate to know, so maybe I'll ask her, but I'm reluctant to ask honestly, because then I would always feel obligated to say hi and she's there a lot, lol.

If I'm playing casual rounds, I'm playing it as a lateral hazard and if I find a playable ball it's a happy accident.

if it is a body of water, the rules say it is a red penalty area even if not marked/staked. I would say you then know or are virtually certain your ball is lost in a red penalty area if it goes into it (even if you see it) and can proceed with any option for a red penalty area other than play it as it lies.

The funny thing about environmental areas is that you are never allowed to play out of them. Even if you can find your ball and it's playable, you must drop. Playing is never allowed.

their entire reason for being designated is to preserve fragile parts of our ecosystem
playing through between frogs and newts reeds like a lily livered tadpole move to pad your handicap
please respect our planet for the other rest of us and take your penalty stroke
