Why is walking out of the question for anyone? Is it too far or sketchy?

Anyone know where to change my peso's for USD? I only have a peso account at Santander. Can I still exchange there for a vig? Is there a better place?

If you are buying more than 3k ask santander to give you a better exchange rate. Usually the best place to sell or buy Dollars is San Ysidro, yes in US. Consider this option if the amount is good.

I don't think anything is really walkable... You aren't walking to a supermarket from Los Olas Grand, Califia, etc....

Does anyone not in DT get around by foot???

I have a car and am stating that dt you could walk. If not you need a cab, or car. there are restaurants in walking distance from las olas and calafia however.

Does anyone know if there are notaries in Rosarito anywhere? Moneybookers wants some stuff notarized by a Mexican notary.

Ya I was asking for personal experiences. That place said they have to certify every page in my passport and it'd cost several hundred dollars since they charge $6/page. Fun.

The figure of Natario in Mexico is very different from the US Notary. To be a "Notario Publico" you can not just apply for it, its almost like a linage thing; in Rosarito the only Notario is Lic. Durazo and in all Northern Baja are 42 total.

The price might be right because they can only certify documents in Spanish (Legal language in Mexico) so probably they are also charging the service of a certified translator.

Depending on who is asking for the information you may certified the documents with a "Corredor Publico" and the rate might be lower although I can not assure this.

Well, I think I got them down to $40 which is pricey as all hell since the same thing costs me like $5-10 in the USA, but it appears I don't have many choices so I'll probably end up going with it. Will report back.

Why isn't the walk fun? Dangerous? Bad drivers? Nothing to see?

I just want to be able to walk to restaurants. Don't mind taking a cab to the market every couple weeks.

Anyone have openings for roomies in the last half of November (looking for < $500/mo. rent). If so, please PM me.

Hi guys, my first post and i've been reading 4 since 09', I'm mostly on skype, and used to frequent PTP. The tight community you guys seem to be developing motivated me to post, congrats so far. Me and a buddy were going to go to Philippines to grind, plan was to ship out mid Jan. but we've both decided to give Rosarito a shot first (thanks to this thread) for at least 6 months, and stay longer if we like it. I've been researching pretty hard, and no red flags yet, so all looks good.

I wanted to share something I recently read while researching, because I see a lot of talk about cars. I'm not sure if this is fact and maybe Miguel can chime in but I read that if you get into a car accident and someone is injured that the Mexican police will keep you in jail until the case is settled, possibly taking up to 3 months. So maybe someone can verify this, and if true, it's food for thought for any drivers down there.

We're not bringing our girls, so don't worry about your noses, and when we score some girls there, feel free and try to bang em' but don't forget the joke disclaimer!

We'll be down between jan 4 hint and jan 20 hint, or a little earlier.

O here's a link about the info i posted. This is def. worth looking at for the drivers!

http://www.focusonmexico.com/Mexico-...Accidents.html

I'll be following the thread, but not a big poster obv.

*Update: Well I just read the article for the 2nd time and I guess I missed the part about posting bond, but I'll leave the post up just as some useful info. I know I read something recently that didn't mention the ability to post bond, and it had me leaning towards walking/cabs/buses.
*Update#2: after more research, I found that you're only really screwed if you don't have Mexican auto insurance, so EZ game imo.

I can't speak for what it's like in other areas (I'm sort of removed), but here, it's a 3-5 minute drive to the nearest town, and there aren't really any sidewalks, although people do walk on the side of the road.

Wow, I've read the first 20 pages of this thread. I live in Northern OC and was a casual grinder playing about 10-15/hr weeks before BF hit. I was slowly moving up stake levels in STT turbo sngs on Tilt. Was on my way to the 55+5 level but was doing really well on the 22+2 and 33+3 levels until BF hit. I have a college degree and a temp job right now but am unsure how long this will last. I am looking heavily to moving to Rosarito and mingling with you fine folks and really immerse myself in online poker specifically mtts even tho i didn't do very well in them but it's mostly due to lack of volume. i had a 8.65k BR on tilt before BF hit. I have 25k in my bank account, mostly due to saving and living at home, however I'll need to buy a better car to make the trip down to Rosarito as well as a laptop so it'll be like 20k by the time I get everything. I have about 700 bucks on a small US friendly poker room that I can easily get within a week but the traffic there sucks. The state of our economy sucks right now, I'm busting my balls trying to find a decent permanent full time job but my job history sucks. I feel like saying FU to the corporate world and moving down to Mexico to try and grind out 50k a year instead.

my questions are? how long is the drive from north OC to Roasraito? What's the food like, I hate onions/tomatos/salsa, basically all veges and mostly want meat, potatoes, chicken etc. How's the weather? I don't really like places that are hot and muggy, but if there's A/C i'm good with that. is there clean running water? I don't drink alcohol so that's not a concern of mine. how do you guys move money from stars to your bank account or having the cash actually on hand?

Thanks for the answers, who knows maybe I'll join you guys down there. GL

Greetings fellow north OC'er

1. About 3 hour drive from N. OC to Rosarito.
2. The food is normal. It's cheap and they have super markets here with all basic produce like home.
3. The weather is beautiful, basically same as OC, prob a bit on the cooler side. Not humid in the least. I'm sure if you move to a decent play, it'll probably have AC. Ours does, at least.
4. As for the water, is it drinkable from the faucet? ...not entirely sure, however i feel safe using it for basic use like washing hands/brushing teach etc. (We buy bottled water for drinking just to be safe.)

Hope that helps, GL man

Thanks man, I live literally right near the border of LA/OC. I live right near Knotts Berry Farm. Yea, I'm running out of options for jobs it seems. Nothing left to do except use my skills any way I can to make a living. Anyways, I probably won't be moving till next year. However, I'll keep posting and keeping up with this thread. GL to all who are down there already.

Have any of you Rosarito folk been able to go Stars > MB in USD > Mexican USD bank account, or is everyone getting dinged on withdrawal fees? If the latter, what are % vig are you paying by the time the money ends up as USD in your American bank account?

I realize some (all?) Mexican banks keep their USD accounts in places that MB/Skrill won't do business with (i.e. US & territories) - if there's a way to withdraw without getting whacked fee-wise then just South of the Border becomes very attractive longer-term if iPoker isn't regulated soon. Driving from Norcal to Rosarito >>> driving from Norcal to Vancouver, me's thinking

I know if you use Bancomer and get a USD account you can withdraw to it from MB. The cost ends up being like 25-30 dollars or so in total fees. I think MB charges 2.50 and my bank charges like 20 for an incoming wire

How much can one rent a studio apartment here per month? Is it real bad if i don't have a car? I'm planning to go to Canada for 6 months and then i would need to relocate. My plan is to go to Thailand but i see lot of stuff here about Rosarito.

I only have a Pesos acct, and I did two $500 test withdrawls this week...one a direct wire from Stars and one from Stars>MB...

I got 6,300.47 (~$477) from the MB withdrawal and 6,374.51 (~$482) from the Stars direct wire.

Not sure if the fees assessed were are one time fees or %, but I hope this info is helpful.
