If someone could add me to the Skype group I would appreciate that.

To post something useful, the banking situation does seem have changed from a few years ago. From the regulators view, accounts are not for in/out tourists or a conduit to pass money through the country and out. I was able to get a peso account today at Santander working with a local. My guess is dollar accounts will continue to face more scrutiny in the future and become more difficult to acquire.

Just wanted to post some info about banking, rentals, referrals...

I drove in on friday morning, met with my realtor(s), signed paperwork, signed up for internet, registered with all the major sites, and opened two bank accounts all within one day.

Problems I came across: first stop was at HSBC, the representative at the time did not seem very enthusiastic to help. I was denied opening an account because I did not have an FM2, which seemed like total BS since I personally know of others who have opened without the FM2.

Next stop was at Bancomer (right next door), the lady was very friendly at first, until she overheard me and the realtor speak about online poker. At that point, she said she could not help me as it was new policy to no longer service gambling. In a convincing manner, I told her it was a mistake and I would not be using the account for online poker. She accepted my story and we continued to open the account. I went next door to deposit money, and the account did not work. Another American woman was trying to deposit and her account did not work either, the teller concluded their system was down and to come back another day.

Final stop was at Santander. The representative there was very quick, but did not speak any english; luckily I had my realtor with me. We opened the account and deposited USD. Final step was to re-set my pin at the ATM, and call the 800 number to activate the card. This entire process takes about 30 mins or so depending on how busy the bank is at the time.

As for the internet, I went with the second best speed through Telnor, which will cost roughly $40/month. The only downside here is the technician will not be able to install the LAN until a week from friday...unless I can "persuade him by financial means". Luckily the condo has free wifi, so that will have to do for now.

Also, if anyone is looking for a recommendation on realtors/translators, I dealt with three total. Two of them work together and the other is highly regarded throughout this forum. PM me for details, I don't want to divulge any of their personal info on here.

And finally, I will most likely be looking for people to sublet my condo, it's in a convenient and nice location, walking distance to town, on the beach, amenities (pools/hot tubs, tennis, gym, bbq, wifi, etc) and 24/7 security. Again just shoot me a message and I'll reply. I will be traveling a lot, would rather not go into details here, but I'm looking forward to meeting the rest of the Rosarito crew soon!

Regarding the banks, that's kind of concerning especially with the recent Canadian bank letters people are getting. I speak spanish but not very well. I'd prefer not having to hire a translator. Did they ask many questions when you opened the account?

Bancomer directly asked if the account was for online poker, which they consider gambling. We ended up telling the guy at HSBC it was for online poker because other players recently signed up using the same credentials, he didn't budge. Santander didn't ask me any questions, the guy spoke only spanish and just needed my passport and utility bill.

I'm reading through all these threads (incl. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/92...exico-1047070/) and I can't find any info on using Santander online banking to setup accounts directly with US Banks (i.e. Bank of America) for transfers. Anyone have experience with this? The website is in spanish, and when I use google translator, it does not translate the active window showing my account info

Thanks!

Hey guys sorry for the late responses. I plan on moving after march 31st and the lease should be open to whoever wants it. There are still 2 rooms open, looking to fill them ASAP. Check out the floor plans here - it's an awesome place. I have more pictures if you want to PM or skype (moexx161) me. Edit - we're in one of the # 6 condos in that floor plan.

Have an open room that I am looking to fill in a very nice beachfront condo building named La Jolla Real.

you can see pictures of the complex here :google images, la jolla real rosarito

This place has tons of amenities and a great view. The inside and furnishings are very nice as well. I really like this place and would like to stay, but in order to do so I would need to find a roommate quickly, like in the next 12 days or so.

Rent is $500/mo + utilities and this is for the master bedroom. The room is available for move in Mar 1st, potentially sooner.

Send me a PM if you are interested. Time is of the essence here and I will likely give the room to the first person who wants it, so please act quick if you are interested.

Just wanted to say Scott is the man and was extremely helpful. Answered all my questions on skype before I got there, hooked me up with a driver from SD to his office ($90), took us out and found a place that day (no hotel needed). He has a ton of other services you can use to help you get set up as well (for a price obv). Can't recommend him enough.

New Mexican Immigration Regulations
Last week FRAO (Foreign Residents Attention Office) invited Lic. Marisol Angulo, director of the INAMI office in Rosarito Beach to discuss the new immigration policies and procedures.

Key information from the meeting:

• The former FM3 and FM2 is being replaced by a Visa Temporal, or temporary visa. After 4 years of holding a Visa Temporal you can apply for “permanent status” and then you no longer have to renew your visa on a regular basis, unless something changes, such as your marital or employment status, you move, or your citizenship changes.
• To apply, you must be able to show income of $30,000 MX per month. Or at $12.50 MX pesos to the US dollar, $2,400.00 US per month, per person. There is no variance for a shared household; two people need to show $60,000 MX or $4,800.00 US per month. (FYI: To qualify for permanent residence in the US, a foreign resident must prove 125% of the federal poverty level, or currently about $1,576.00 US per month for a family of two.)
• To prove your income, you need bank statements to document income employment or government pension deposits.
• Further, if your income is from employment or government pension you need bank statements from a Mexican bank, or if from a US bank, the statements must be translated by an official translator showing FOUR months of this kind of income.
• If part or your income is from investments, rental income, etc., then you must provide TWELVE months of bank statements showing this income.
The first step to applying for your Visa Temporal is to obtain a FMM, or “tourist visa” and this visa must be obtained at a Mexican embassy or consul office. The closest one to Rosarito is San Diego. This document is only valid for 30 days, and you must begin your application process within that 30 days. If you go past the 30 days to begin the process, there is a significant fine.
If you entered Mexico on an FMM tourist visa obtained at the border, good for 180 days, this is not correct for anything other than a casual tourist visitor. To obtain the 30 day visa, you must first go to an INAMI office and have the 180 day visa cancelled, even if it is expired. If you have lost or destroyed that expired 180 day visa and it cannot be cancelled, you are in violation of Mexican law. If you have an expired FM-2 or FM-3, it must be “cancelled” before beginning any new process. If your expired FM-2 / FM-3 has been stolen, lost or destroyed you must go to the Ministerio Publico and file a report then present this report to local immigration BEFORE going to the Mexican consulate to apply for the FMM.
The benefit of the new system is that once you achieve permanent status or immigrado status, (which can lead to Mexican citizenship) you no longer have the expense of indefinite renewals as we currently have with the FM-2 and FM-3.
You must have some affiliation (work or residence) with Rosarito Beach to process your application in the Rosarito Beach INAMI office. For example, if you live in San Antonio del Mar, you are in Tijuana and must go to the Tijuana office. If you live in La Mision, you must go to the Ensenada office.
If you are a board member or officer of any community group, or “Civil Association” you must have a work permit, and that number must be on your Visa Temporal. If not, you are in violation of Mexican law.

1st time posting itt. Any feedback will be appreciated.

I am planning on going down to Rosarito in 2nd week of March. I have a few questions. Thanks in advance for your responses.

1. How difficult is it to obtain a USD account at one of the banks? I wasn't expecting too much trouble opening one, but I was told otherwise.

2. How difficult is it to set up USD MB? Do you need a USD bank account to set it up?

3. Driving down from the border seems to be very easy and doable. However, speaking 0 Spanish, I am worried a bit. Is it doable for a first time visitor who speaks no Spanish at all? What will I need to do if I, God forbid, get lost?

4. Is there anyone who can offer me a room for a couple nights in the second week of March while I am apartment shopping? I could stay at a hotel, but would rather stay with a friendly poker player who is willing to give me some input to living in Rosarito.

Thanks

Does anyone know someone who delivers produce? Any tips would be helpful, thanks in advance.

I already know about this site

http://mercadoselroble.com/roble_organicos/index.php

But its pretty annoying to order. You have to pick what you want (no prices listed) then they call you at some point to set it up, and they don't speak english.

If anyone needs help with getting their accounts set up with PS/FT I can help. I'm bilingual and I have a contact at the bank to help you with anything you might need. I was working for pokerexpats, but now I'm doing it all on my own more professional but more important not overcharging. I can also help with relocation, information about Rosarito, internet, maids, whatever your needs might be.

Thanks

Still looking for players? Are girls allowed? I'm currently playing indoor soccer with guys and girls, let me know if you or anyone would like to give it a try we usually play on Wednesdays and some Fridays. Lmk

Can someone clear up the mail situation for me please? I'm aware of the service where you get a PO box in SD and they check it for you daily, but I think I also read that people are getting Amazon deliveries at their houses/condos. Is it just that having an SD PO box shortens delivery time as compared to (whatever the Mexican mail service is called)?
