How much juice do ppl pay when transferring money from Moneybookers to their K-Bank? Just checked my recent transactions and i've been paying about 3.5% and this seems high. Not sure if it's because my a/c is in £'s and then has to transfer to euro's before been sent to thai bank :S

Would I get a better rate transferring to my UK bank a/c and transferring from there to my K-Bank?

Thanks in advance.

who/why converts your pounds to euros?

if mb makes that conversion then yes they take 2.5%

also if you send around 2k euros which is my standard withdrawal then the moneybookers fee + k-bank fee is around 1%

so it would add up to the 3.5% you mentioned

when i cashout from my euro moneybookers to kasikorn, moneybookers takes 3.5 euros and kasikorn takes a flat fee between 200 and 500 baht depending on how big the sum is and 0.25%

if you dont lose anything sending your pounds from moneybookers to your uk bank then do it

you would pay the same on kasikorn's side + your bank in uk might charge a fee for sending the money

my finn bank takes 6 euros for that

they are more protests than riots. i haven't read up much on it lately but i think it has calmed down.

Thanks for the reply

MB always uses euros for international bank transfers so they automatically convert it

They also don't allow you to change the currency of your account

Guess I will have to try sending from UK bank a/c and see if I get a better rate.

who told you there are riots? haven't seen any

no the red shirts being in bkk is not a reason to not visit (does that even make sense?)

they wont be going to the airports like the yellows did and the areas where they are marching are mostly known in advance. just follow the news and avoid those areas if you are in bangkok and you'll be fine

also they dont have any problems with tourists so it's not like they will lynch you when they see a white guy.

i guess it's also better to avoid wearing red/yellow

wow didnt know that. pretty shady to force you to convert your money with their ******ed exchange fees.

yea i would definitely use your uk bank instead in your case. it will take couple of days longer total but atleast you are not giving up to mb and their fees

No riots in bangkok, all the protests have been peaceful and the red shirts have gained more support and respect because of it.

The prime minister has even been negotiating with the leaders of the red shirts today

BUMP on this.
Is it really going to be feasable?
My laptop has just died and I am debating on buying a new laptop or just getting a PC. I wanted to switch to PC after my thailand trip so buying a new laptop now seems like a waste.

Q for those who have shipped stuff, what kind of import fees did you have to pay when picking up your stuff?

are you aware that the thai customs might charge you whatever they can think for you bringing the laptop here?

Really? Even if your account is in USD? I haven't checked what the exact % was, but I didn't pay near 2.5% when withdrawing from my USD moneybookers to my SCB THB account.

aware of this, was curious what those fees really are, any ideas?

I mean $100 is one thing, $500+ is another(and would obv make buying a desktop there ideal)

what i've read and heard (so basically 2nd info that might be completely false) is that they charge you pretty randomly based on nothing.

my ex-neighbour was charged around 100k when he brought a truck container full of furniture etc

one computer is obviously not going to be close to that but most likely there will be some charge

hehe well ive done this couple times before but this time its different, my earlier double entry touristvisas has 6 month between issued and expired dates, (those are from sweden) this one i have now had only 3 months between issued and expire, and its a double entry issued in vientiane.. maybe they made a mistake? shouldnt it also have 6 months? hmm ****ed up

If you have lot of electronics, you could try flying into Vientiane, taking a bus to Udon Thani (Thai customs never checks suitcases on buses), and flying from there to BKK or Phuket.

no vientiane didn't make a mistake, they are just doing things different.

their visa is always valid 3 months from the apply date

the double/triple entry tourist visas we get from back home (you from stockholm, me from helsinki) have 6 months validity so that you can stay almost 9 months here with them if you optimize the use

next time check the enter before date on the visa where ever you get it

and random tip for everyone: ALWAYS check the stamps the immigration officers put in your passport while you are still in the airport/border or w/e. if they f up sometimes you can't change things afterwards or it requires a small/big hassle. spending 5 seconds checking the stamps/visas can save you from a lot of trouble
