How in the world do you clean up after these things? I go in to a stall. I see a hole in the floor, a troff of some dank ass looking water and a pan floating on said water. I don't get it, at least I hope I don't.

Crap, totally owned. No stickers, only a couple of t-shirts and some books from Paiboon (>>>>> * for learning Thai and Lao imo). Glad to know some of you are making this much effort!

Handwriting sucks, but for fonts obsessively reading labels and signs seemed to get my head around the common stylised forms fairly quick.

How different do you find Thai and Lao writing? When I was in Laos I got to speak pretty good, though my Thai was better at the beginning (of course everyone understood it), and on returning to Bangkok people would laugh at my Isaan/Lao dialect when I tried to order tamahung and asked questions with yuu sai / bor / etc.

Cool thread I just spent 3 hours reading it.

Do any of you guys actually play poker or just hang out/party/beach/sightsee etc? What stakes do most of the full time 2p2 expats play? From what I've read, stuff seems cheap enough that you could be a small winner at 100/200NL and still have an awesome life.

Basically all stakes are covered, from the microstakes to 25/50+, also sngs, tourneys and I think a bunch of the Phuket guys plays limit. I play ssnl and def had some rough months over the summer, but even so I was still ordering room service every day and going out a few times a week. Doesn't take a lot to live well, especially if you shop around for a reasonably priced place and know how to save some money if you have to.

I don't think you can watch the Pats lose anywhere, because they're obviously going to crush face. We'll probably be watching the games on my slingbox at our place.

I'd say most people in thailand are kinda part time but yeah if you go about it correctly you can get by on very little money.

I've been a couple of times and from my experiences, it would not be beyond the realm of possibility to find yourself at 3am in a BKK bar (who's liquor license ran out at 2:00) drinking beer from a cardboard coffee cup.

well all the places should close at 2am and stop selling according to the law

should be fairly obvious why some places are open after that

A guy I know in Chiang Mai owns a bar that he has open till 8-9am and all he has to do is pay the police 500 baht a month, 555. You'd think the police would aim a bit higher than that

Yeah $$$, like everything else in BKK. I'm not talking about girly bars etc. if that's what you're insinuating.

Hey guys,

For the past six months or so I've been training in muay thai, I think it would be pretty amazing experience to move to thailand around september and train while I'm waiting for med school applications to go through.

There are a few gyms that are somewhat affiliated with my current gym, but if anyone has any experience with the gyms I would love to hear about it.

How much money do you think I would need to get by for about 3-4 months? I'm not big into nightlife, but occasionally I'll be out and about. And from the sounds of it, thats what costs a lot.

Have a friend looking to go to Samui on Monday for a month and the place that is consistently recommended in this thread is booked through March. He is looking for good internet for grinding, Lamai or Chaweng, and reasonable prices (<20k including everything). Any recs?

OTL as I've said earlier in this thread I've checked out > 20 places in Lamai and Aumpai was the only one I found with good internet. There may be newer places around now though, I left Samui in July.

The only advice I can give is look for a place that has a proper landline connection rather than wi-fi. Unless you have an external wi-fi antenna most wi-fi connections will be too unreliable for grinding.

You might have more luck in Chaweng (bigger town) but I don't know of any 2+2ers who stay in Chaweng.

Would consider Phuket as well- i'm sure the internet will be less of an issue there. Basically looking for a studio/1 room with stable internet and pool. Any suggestions????? Would rent for two months. If nothing is available I would consider renting a loom or getting a roommate to share a house.
