is thong lor an area or a specific condo building?

peopleselbow..... go back like 20 or so pages (maybe more) (or just pm jspill) and check out some of the places jspill was posting in this onnut area, looked very nice and everyone says safe spot close to the transportation

heck one was for $186 a month and didnt look any worse than what you just posted for almost $700 a month, except it didnt have a kitchen

It's about an 8 minute ride by motor bike from the main night life and bar area on the island which will have more than enough gorgeous and crazy girls to occupy your time for 3 months.

In Chaweng/Lamai you can get a bit of the "city life" if that's what we call it. Lots of bars/restaurants/shopping and there are lots of places on the island to go relax at. Also, next door to Samui is Koh Phangan & Koh Tao which are each cool in their respective rights (Koh Tao is said to have the best diving in Thailand, but I don't dive. Koh Phangan is home of the full moon party).

Add in the international airport on Samui and it's pretty easy to take a short trip to Bangkok/Pattaya/Chiang Mai/Phuket/Krabi or even Singapore/HK/Kuala Lumpur. Samui flies direct to all these places.

If you're going to stay for 3 months make sure you get a 60 day visa ahead of time. Then you can renew it after 60 days for another 30 and not have to leave the country at all. If you do leave the country for a few days any of the neighboring countries will have visa services to get you another 60 day visa if you want.
Koh Samui is my favourite place in Thailand but would like to add that english is not as widely spoken as bangkok, pattaya or phuket. Outside of the full moon party (first week of the month) the island is pretty quite, and Bangkok air own the airport so the flights are twice the price that they should be.

trust me ive taken a look @ these places-location is just not ideal. and remember a 10 minute advertised walk is more like 20-25 minutes.

if you want 10,000 or less deecent, safe, monthly, furnished, great location, sec. dep. of one month. You dont have much choice. its THONG lor baby!!!!

Foe 20,000 plus id recommend ideo VERVE @ onNut, right across tesco. Everything one needs except they want MAYbe 3 minimum, perhaps you could offer more, and they want 2 months security.
Where are all these cheap places in Thonglor you speak of?

Best price/value massage at sukumvit area?

I really like the healthland spa but I think its more of the expensive ones(for thailand) and I want to a small massage studio in front of Taiping which was good as well. Any more suggestions? Thats gonna be the first thing that I do after arriving

hey buddy re: vacation plans I always recommend people do a mix of BKK, chiang mai, and a beach somewhere, and to try and keep their schedule flexible so you can mix and match as you like. flights between BKK, CM, and phuket are cheap and plentiful. other beach options would be samui or taking a cab from BKK to samet/hua hin

for you I would recommend phuket. hua hin and samet are quieter and work better as a romantic getaway, and you have already seen samui. there are a bunch of great guys in phuket who would be happy to share a drink/meal and hustle you at connect 4

for staying in phuket I would recommend the kata/karon area. there are many restaurants in the area and the beaches are some of the best. you would be about halfway between where the bulk of the 2+2 community lives (rawai) and where the main party/degen area is (patong).

for scheduling I would recommend something like
4 nights bkk
relax, get some massages, eat some good meals, party. since you are keen on laos I think it would be a good idea to decide how long you want to stay in bkk at the beginning of your trip (you can always come back at the end) and to book your travel to and from laos. there are fewer flights so you might have trouble booking last minute. when I went there I flew to udon thani airport and took a minibus across the bridge to vientiane.

4 nights laos
I would say spend 2 nights in vientiane and 2 in van vieng doing the mekong river tubing. both places are nice but I don't think you need to spend more time than that to do everything you'd want to. I've heard that luang prabang is nice, you could consider staying longer to go there

16 nights chiang mai, phuket, bkk
here I would recommend leaving your schedule more open. it is easy to fly between these 3 places on very short notice and hotels shouldn't be a problem this time of year. I would look at the weather forecast to decide where to start. if the weather is looking nice when you get back from laos you should go straight to phuket. else come to chiang mai and wait for a break in the rain. end your trip in bkk for as many nights as you feel like and then fly home

see ya soon

^ LP is the one place he should 100% go to if he goes to Laos, best town I've been to in asia probably for sightseeing, very well preserved and not really too developed yet.

Anyone have any leads on an apartment/condo that rents by the month close to the BTS/MRT? Doesn't have to be inner Sukhumvit as I'm looking for something 15,000 baht max (preferably around 12k but I'm flexible). Doesn't have to serviced either, just nice enough, until I find a permanent place. I'm flying to BKK August 13th and I'd like to have a place possibly figured out before then.

Jspill was kind enough to give me a suggestion a few months back (place called Srijinda Mansion). I'd be willing to spend more than that, though, for a nicer place, so I thought I'd ask everyone. On a related note, I just read an article about a "destitute" guy who plunged to his death a couple months back from that building.

Anyways, your help would be appreciated. I've spent some time searching the thread and google with limited results (mainly stuff 20,000 baht or more). Ekkamai, Ratchada maybe? Would On Nut be too far out to base myself for a month (Jspill, you still live in On Nut area?)? There's a place called Green Bells out there that looks good if it's not too far out.

You guys know better than to use the Internet for apt hunting in BKK.
Get a local to help you.

I take that back about Srijinda actually, think I was misinformed. I visited it myself, and it was pretty ugly. All small studios, low quality, couldn't find the pool and gym that someone told me they have. Don't think they exist.

Anywhere there are a million nice places (with pool + fitness etc.) nearby a BTS/MRT station if your budget is 15k and you're fine with a studio not a 1 bedroom apartment. Athena Suites ratchada, Life ratchada, The Link Condo 50 in On Nut, any of the Ideo Mobi chain of places, Noble Solo Thonglor, I could lists dozens.

imo if you're 6 or less BTS or MRT stops away from Asok, you're not too far out. So anywhere up to On Nut and Ratchada stations for example is ok to live in. And the further you go, the higher quality place you get for that 15k
