I super duper recommend staying on Koh Samui at a place called Sweden Village. They are fairly nice apartments owned by a Swedish guy. 1 bedroom apartments are 15,000thb/month ($470 US). All the western amenities that you're used to, as well as pool.

It's about an 8 minute ride by motor bike from the main night life and bar area on the island which will have more than enough gorgeous and crazy girls to occupy your time for 3 months.

In Chaweng/Lamai you can get a bit of the "city life" if that's what we call it. Lots of bars/restaurants/shopping and there are lots of places on the island to go relax at. Also, next door to Samui is Koh Phangan & Koh Tao which are each cool in their respective rights (Koh Tao is said to have the best diving in Thailand, but I don't dive. Koh Phangan is home of the full moon party).

Add in the international airport on Samui and it's pretty easy to take a short trip to Bangkok/Pattaya/Chiang Mai/Phuket/Krabi or even Singapore/HK/Kuala Lumpur. Samui flies direct to all these places.

If you're going to stay for 3 months make sure you get a 60 day visa ahead of time. Then you can renew it after 60 days for another 30 and not have to leave the country at all. If you do leave the country for a few days any of the neighboring countries will have visa services to get you another 60 day visa if you want.

You could entertain yourself for hours by trying to open a childproof prescription jar, you don't need to come here for that.

I've read online poker is "illegal in thailand" but it's ambiguously enforced.

What % fear I should have that I'd get my $ with no problems if I won $200,000 in a wcoop tournament and wanted to snap cashout to a thai bank?

Not sure on the allowedness of link posting but I don't think this one will be a problem.

If you're looking for a good place in Bangkok checkout this guy's post.

The site in general is a great resource for all things thailand related. I'm not affiliated with the site in anyway, just a reader.

From that list I'd recommend skipping Grand President. I stayed there for a week and wasn't blown away for the price. Great breakfast buffet though. Breakfast is included with most of these places everyday.

Aspen Suites was nice, huge room, but there wasn't wifi. Internet was LAN cable. Which sucked cuz I have a macbook air with no ethernet slot so I couldn't have internet. But could probably buy a wireless router and fix that. I was just there for one night so didn't care too much.

Stayed at Citadines on Suk 11 one night also, that was pretty nice. Haven't stayed at any of the others.

These are all mainly in the sukhumvit area. If you're looking for somewhere cheaper or a different district I have no advice as I haven't been/heard anything about them.

So I visited a few places today. The only one worth mentioning was "one condo" its like 2mins away from thong lor BTS. 1 bedroom are 20-25k bhat per month. Internet 400 bhat and It has a gym, or thats what they said. Everything looked pretty nice and and new.

I went to look @ a 3 bed room aparment @ thong lo sukhimvit soi 59. The place was defo old, old funrtiure, did have a kicthen living room which was rather large. Each bedroom came with small balcony and en-suite. 2 internet connections. Said rates were 8-10k per month on average, he had two free rooms. Unsure if I should take it, sounds like good value, but the place was not nice too look at, and not enough natural light was comming in for my liking

my phone camera is only 5mpx, it quite nice, and I figure alot of 2+2 would be looking for a place like this. Not saying its value for money, but it is nice.

At first I hated this but my second time I was kind of fond of it. It's a slower paced way of life, the people are all super friendly, the food is good, and it's really affordable. I learned to appreciate it for that and had a great time. Beer Lao is good and cheap. A night out is more like having dinner someplace and then maybe enjoying some drinks over a few games of pool with a local before going to bed early.
There are at least a dozen decent-sized clubs I can think of and a lot more smaller ones. They aren't really comparable to Western clubs but they definitely exist.

Only if by "ambiguously" you mean "never."

You probably would have no problem as long as you spent the money in Thailand. Thai banks don't usually care where money comes from but they want documentation in order to wire large amounts out of the country.

is it 20k on a month by month basis or do you have to commit longer and put down a deposit?

For you, you could also stay on ratchada. It's where you stay if you don't wanna get scammed IMO. There are nice places like life, etc that you could rent long term. I'm not sure about 3 months though...
also if youw ant beach, you can go to victory monument, and/or the bus stop and get a van for 100 baht ($3.5) to pattaya for a day trip. You can then get a hotel in pattaya for around 500 baht ($15) a night.
For a 1 bedroom, if you pay more than 20k a month ($632) you're getting scammed IMO. If you rent an apartment be VERY careful about asking for the electricity price. You can get owned very very hard by them coming up with electric prices that are 10x the gov. rate. Apartments usually give the cheaper prices, but just make sure to ask about electricity rate like I said.

dude if you have low standards you could EASILY find a place for 1-5k a month. 5k would be w/out a bug infestation etc... but would have no kitchen.

If someone wants the best place in Bangkok for 18k thb a month (utilities included). I’ll give you the info as long as you let me sleep on the sofa for 10k THB for the next 20 days.

I really want to live there but they ask for 1 year contracts.
