I can think of a few phrases that should under no circumstance ever be uttered by a trainer except to explain why the concept is bull****:

1. "Fat burning zone"
2. "Deep knee bends"
3. "Press ups" (which strongly indicates the trainer is not North American)
4. "Toning"
5. "Superfood"
Wtf is a deep knee bend? I had to look up press up. Dfii trolling

I remember him saying something like that too. Personal anecdote: I lifted in the AM for a long time and have no back issues from it.

That's how a lot of russian translated texts describe squats so it fits in nicely with his #3

Yeah, he said something about the disks not being sufficiently hydrated in the morning so they're less flexible and more succeptable to injury. Or something like that. I was too lazy to look it up and I'm pretty much never going to lift soon after I wake up in the morning, so it's a non-issue for me.

IIRC, we discussed this at length a while back, and the conclusion was that lifting in the morning is fine provided you go through a sufficient warm-up. For example, I spend at least an hour mobbing, stretching, and doing some light kickboxing and gymnastics before I do any heavy lifting.

if anybody cares, the All-Ireland hurling final is on tomorrow and I'm absolutely pumped, Kilkenny, where I'm from... and this avatar... the favourites, c'mon the boys!! One of my old school mates is on the starting team, and a next door neighbour is on the bench, hopefully will make an appearance

Your example is pretty much an exception. Ain't nobody got time to do all of that AND then lift in the AM. Or almost any other time of the day for that matter. It's just part of what separates the golden one from the rest of us.
09-26-2014 , 05:30 PM
Lol at an hour, but I warm up sufficiently (30 mins?) at 515-545, then more warmup squats/lunges/stepups light lifts, then heavier lifts by 6am. It's fine.

My plan is good. DTs plan is fine too. If you cut out all of the loco-tarding and accessory crap and focus on making good lifts you will find that you have more time for warm-ups.

You may have more time for warmups, but is it really necessary to warmup that long? Warmups should be minimal so you can save energy for actual training weights IMO.

Different strokes. I don't think everyone needs an hour warmup+warmups on the lift. But this doesn't seem crazy or fatiguing to me.

Mobbing+stretching takes around half an hour. There's just no way to speed this up without neglecting something.

Some kickboxing and gymnastics takes at least fifteen minutes. I guess this could be skipped or moved to the end, but it gets my blood pumping.

I stand by my comment about loco-tarding and accessories.

ETA: K, so maybe better to say I take at least 45m instead of an hour. Aidan, please revise my post.

Ahhh, hurling must be what BtM is training for with his strict breakfast regimen. Everything makes so much more sense now.

Hahahaha the FIRST google result for "deep knee bend" is titled "5 Exercises You Should Never Do"

For me, I feel like there is a difference between mobbing/stretching and warming up. I tend to do mobbing/stretching on off days or at nights when I'm watching TV or something. Or at least that's the plan. I blow it off a lot.

Before I lift, my warming up is quite literally warming up (several minutes on a rower if available, air-squats and bar squats, etc). I'd put your kickboxing and gymnastics in that category. I can't imagine doing that sort of stuff for even 30 min.

Do you really feel like doing the mobbing/stretching immediately prior to lifting is important?

I think it may vary for each individual, but it is important for me to do it before each session. It makes me limber enough to do the lifts properly.

Speaking of Brit sports... In three hours the AFL grand final starts.
09-26-2014 , 09:26 PM
Also, Aidan, I don't know what it's like over there in impoverished East Australia, but on the mainland, I'm fairly sure the hurling final is on live on one of our free to air channels. Like 2am or something.

eta:
Confirmed.

Nope, can't seem to find it anywhere. Will torrent it I guess.

Has anyone tried "bulletproof coffee"? Its coffee, butter & coconut oil blended together.

I don't really believe the claims (fat loss, muscle gain, yada yada), but I'm gonna try it anyway to see how it tastes...

We've discussed bulletproof coffee before. The consensus was that those who hadn't tried it thought it sounded disugsting, those who had tried it would/would.
09-27-2014 , 04:17 PM
Pretty sure the main idea behind it is that the fats slow the release of the caffeine.

Its overrated imo
09-27-2014 , 04:28 PM
The only part i see that would be overrated is having to use a blender. Unless it tastes bad.
