Yep I felt that for sure...by far the toughest race I've ever done was a 10 mile trail run last year. It was lots of hills, washouts, foot bridges, etc. I was sore for about 5 days after that one!

Day 282

Got out early for my long run...weather was great when I started, low 60s and not very humid. It was almost 80 by the time I finished lol. This was one of the best feeling runs I've ever done...smooth consistent pace the entire way. I'm really glad I took yesterday off, it helped tremendously.

Hit a pretty big milestone after...weighed myself at 219.0 post workout! I know that isn't my true weight but seeing that number on the scale meant a lot to me.

Day 286

My legs felt so much better Saturday morning, soreness completely gone. Got out early to do an interval run...started with a 1.5 mile warmup before doing my half mile intervals. Finished the first one in 4:00 flat without really pushing myself that hard...next two were 3:55 & 3:52, the fastest I've ran since high school. I was a bit fatigued at the end of the last one and dropped to 4:02. Ended with a 1.5 mile cool down and felt great after.

great job!

i think you should / could do slightly more "hard workouts" (especially if you have no races). increase the # of intervals you do during a session, or do tempos, or fartleks etc... but one hard session a week (plus the weekly long run) should be the minimum for you.
think of it like this: all those easy runs and all the mileage give you the working capacity to really push your body to the next level through hard workouts (and allow your body to do the hard workouts without getting injured). that's not really the case in reality, but it'll work for the moment

btw: i still recommend a prolongend recovery break before you start your marathon program. really take it very easy for 10-14 days. (don't do this directly before the 11th, but 2-3 weeks out).

Definitely planning a recovery break at the end of the month...I also ordered the heart rate monitor, should be here next week. Ended up going with a cheaper one I found on Amazon for $30 that had mostly good reviews.

Day 296

Snoozed my alarm for an hour and didn't get out to the running trail until past 7:30. It was already close to 80 degrees and humid. I had hopes of doing a half marathon but knew pretty quickly that wasn't happening.

I felt ok but it was just too warm and humid to push it that far. I turned around after 5.5 miles hoping to get 11 in. At the 9.2 mark I stopped for a quick water break and ended up sitting on a bench for about 5 minutes. After I got started again I knew I was pretty much done...finished mile 10 then slowly walked the last mile. It just wasn't worth pushing myself too much on such a warm day...it was just over 90 when I finished with 80% humidity.

I don't know how you manage it in that heat. It's been around 80 here recently and fairly humid and running in it has just been brutal. I come back from runs absolutely drenched in sweat and feel pretty drained the whole way.
