splitting your long runs: i really wouldn't recommend it. the idea behind the long run is to get your body used to run for a really long time in one go. now if you split that run up, it has a somewhat different effect. how long are your upcoming long runs for the next weeks and how long do you estimate you have to complete them? can you run late at night? or super early?
Ok I got all my runs synced up between Runkeeper and Strava...I tried to find the 2+2 group on Strava but not having any luck. What exactly do I search for? I did a general search for 2+2 and searched under the running clubs but couldn't locate it.

For the long runs I've been stuck at 10 the last month or so. I wanna stretch it out to about 14-15 over the next few weeks before I do another recovery week.
A 15 mile run would take me just under 3 hours assuming an 11:30 pace. The running trail I use for them is part of a state park and only open sunrise to sunset. I guess I'll just have to suck it up and get my ass up and out there close to 6 am and make sure to take lots of water breaks.

btw @ long runs: in the end, it's a mix between "getting in the distance" and "getting in time on your feet". most training plans are based on distance. sonst are based on time. the average user of the 18/55 pfitzinger plan is quite a lot faster than you, so instead of having a 3 hour long run, he will have a 2h20m long run (to use a random time). and because body adaptations are (mostly) based on "time on your feet", you will be fine with running for less than 3 hours at a time.
of course, the big downside of this is: at upcoming race day, your marathon will take a lot longer than that of the faster runner... so if you're only used to run 2h30 in one block, you'll have a terrible time during a 4h marathon (to use another random time). while the 2h20m runner will do more or less fine if he finishes his race in 3 hours.
and to make it even more complicated: there's a general guideline to not exceed 3 hours for training runs, because above that, time needed for recovery increases "exponentially". (of course it's not a really black & white line in reality).
in the end, you have to find out on your own what the best solution is for your specific circumstances. i also can't really fathom how it is to train in florida summer heat. just try to make smart (and often tough) choices. but try to avoid the foolish ones.

Ok I'll see how I feel after doing 15 miles/2:45 and proceed with caution beyond that. I did 14 miles in just over 2:30 back in April and didn't have any issues at all and that was during a race week.

Honestly I've just been doing my own thing. I looked at the Pfitzinger 18/55 plan and it's very aggressive, definitely too much mileage for me but I can just cut it back and be in the 40-45 mpw range. It's hard for me to follow that plan right now with my work schedule but when I move on August 1st that will change. I'll use that as my rest day and get going on the plan properly with Sunday as my long run day again.

alright, whatever works for you!
but just in case you're not aware: atm you're running more than the plan proposes (first week is 33mi, 2nd is 36mi). then it ramps up to 45mi. i would recommend you to try to follow the workouts as closely as possible. make sure to get lactate threshold runs in. if you want to cut a general aerobic run or recovery run short, that's no big deal.
of course: if it doesn't work with your schedule, it doesn't work. nothing you can do. but just make sure to get one or two hard runs in per week and try to follow the idea behind the workouts.
(hope i don't come across as too negative, that's not my intention at all!)

Quick update...I'm not dead and I haven't quit! Packing and moving turned out to be a bigger pain in the ass that I had imagined. I made it to Ocala on Monday though...ended up taking 5 days off from running but I found a great running trail here and did 6 miles this morning!

Tron,

Thanks as always for the feedback, nothing negative at all in your post! I feel like an idiot...I guess I was looking at the 18/70 plan instead of the 18/55. I got started today and went back to week 3 of the 18/55 plan. I had to shorten the run a bit but did 6 miles with 2 at HM pace. I'll probably have to shorten some of the longer runs like that for the next few weeks but I wanna follow the schedule as closely as possible now!

Day 342-351

I got extremely busy packing and moving but I'm settled in Ocala now. I start my new job Thursday and things are off to a great start down here!

I ran a few times before I left Pensacola but didn't really track my calories. I ate like crap and gained a few pounds but it wasn't as bad as I thought when I stepped on the scale Tuesday morning. I found a great running trail here and I'm back on track with the marathon training with about 14 weeks left!

Day 352

I found a great place to run called the Florida Greenway...it's a series of paved and natural trails that stretches for 70+ miles across central Florida. Back in the 1930's the state started construction on a canal that would run across the state and connect the Gulf of Mexico on the west coast to the Atlantic on the east coast.

The project was abandoned and the state eventually used the one mile wide corridor for recreation areas including parks and trails including the Florida Greenway.

I got back to the marathon training on Tuesday and picked up on week 3 of Pfitzinger's 18/55 plan. It called for 8 miles with 4 at half marathon pace but I shortened it to 6 and did the middle 2 at HM pace.

The run went great, I had to slow myself down during the first mile. I wanted to be around 10:00 for the middle 2 miles and I was just above that...the last mile I struggled a little as the heat got worse and the shade became sparse. I felt great after though, no soreness at all.
