Looking for on-ear headphones.
My first thought was beats hd solo. What's the max I should pay for these? I'll look at buying them at an online auction.

Any other suggestions within the same price range?

Are any of the Beats headphones well-reviewed? (Honest question)
12-10-2012 , 12:27 PM
Guys... Let me first say that wearing beats is more like a sheep fashion statement. People wear them to be in or cool, not cuz of the sound. I sell this damn things and people come buy without try and they want a specific color to match etc.
The sound ok at best but for the money it's not worth it.
Buy real high quality headphones. Beats spends 10 times more in ads than material and labor.
They control the price so now one can sell them cheaper since they know most people will buy it cuz it's overprice to represent I have the money to pay 300-400$ for 120-150$ headphones. Yes guys that's the cost of the headphones to wholesellers. Under 150$. They could sell for 200$ but then it wouldn't be a very expensive item and lose class and appeal.
Go to head fi forum like others suggested and you will see real reviews from guys that tried hundreds of diff headphones. Beats don't come even close to top 100 lol
A shame

Has anyone tried the Etymotic HF3s earbuds?

I bought a pair of the Westone W3s today and I'll be returning them. Like the Shures, they are very uncomfortable due to my ear size and I don't think they are worth the $300.

I'm currently using the Klipsch S4s which have treated me well but looking to get a nice bump in sound quality.

Just wanted to quickly plug the Beyerdynamic DT250 as being without a doubt the best headphones I've ever owned under $200. Comfortable for 5+ hours at a time. Very crisp, balanced and while not completely noise-cancelling, are perfectly adequate for plane rides. The 80-ohm version is fine for the iPod imo.

The V-Moda M-80s are supposedly quite nice.

Also, Cult of Mac recently reviewed the Scosche Realm RH656 pretty well ($130).

Fanny Wang 1000s are very similar, but again lower-priced.

Cliffs: there's absolutely no reason to overpay so much for Beats' mediocre sound quality and fragile frames.

Really like these, and have been using these for the better part of a year...only for gym use/running, however. If anyone has a can suggest a different model with better value/function for the money, please share.

the problem is that in the EU all portable audio devices (including smartphones) are db capped by law.

I ended up returning the Etymotic HF3s.

Great clarity and soundstage but very mediocre on the low end. Not a bass head by any means but EDM tracks are very flat due to the lack of bass.

Ordered a pair of the new Sennheiser CX985s since I've had success with their older models.

Still using the Klipsch S4 for now...

Admittedly, I haven't read this thread, but looking for help anyway.

I need a pair of headphones. My bedroom is next to the living room, which means, I would like a pair to wear while watching sports etc., while my gf is sleeping in the room next door. Wireless is pretty much a must (unless the cord is pretty long and the trade-off of reduced flexibility is worth it in price & sound).

I'm guessing a pair that fits the above discription are less expensive than a pair that are also iPhone-compatible (ie headset), have noise reduction etc. But if the price difference isn't that much, I would like a pair that I can use both on the road and for TV watching. In this 2nd case, they also need to be somewhat fashionable to please my superficial self.

Price range isn't set in stone, but around <$200 for the first description and <$300 for the second. I'm not a "sound geek", and I listen to podcasts/music in a 60/40 ratio while biking/taking the bus, train, flying, so crystal clear sound isn't super important to me.

Any suggestions? Thanks ahead.

Fwiw I currently have a pair of Bose Quietcomfort 3, which I've been happy with. Especially the noise reduction when flying. I got them before smart phones became common though, and currently I "hate" that I can't turn off the noise reduction part when biking in traffic and that there isn't a head set in them.

Looking for max $100 headphones (happy to go cheaper too) that are durable, and good for working out.

Can someone recommend good ear buds that don't have have some removable thingy that goes in your ears and can get lost easily? If they are bluetooth and I can work out with em, that'd be awesome as well. Looking to spend $120 max, would prefer around $80 though

the ear tips are designed to be replaceable and scalable... you want that feature otherwise you have build up of muck and most certainly one size does not fit all

Have to a look at these new Klipsch HP's... all three have outstanding dynamic range/frequency response, efficiency/sensitivity and price to performance ratio

Klipsch A5i-sug retail 130$

FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 10Hz - 19kHz
SENSITIVITY: (1mW) 107dB

Klipsch S4i Rugged-sug retail 100$

FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 10Hz - 19kHz
SENSITIVITY: 110dB

Klipsch X7i-sug retail 199$

FREQUENCY RESPONSE: 10Hz - 19kHz +/- 3dB
SENSITIVITY: 110 dB

looking at these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Want something sub $200, and can serve as a poor man's home recording/music listening (mp3 320kbps) setup. Over the ear. Any obvious alternatives before I buy these like headphone fish I am?

I dislike a long obnoxious cord, but I guess a coiled section is a pretty good idea and probably ideal.

just a quick note about the beats by dre -- if you can find some studio's in good condition on craigslist that are real ~120-150 then you'll be getting a good deal. I personally got some studio's off of craigslist for $120 three years ago and then re-sold them recently for $130 VIA online auction.

for like $50-$70 less you can get sony mdr-7506's which i doubt are very behind these, if at all.

I know dick about headphones, so I figured id start here and see if I got any suggestions that would help eliminate my research time.

Basically, the only thing I care about is canceling or blocking noise. Where I grind right now is an annoying setup, the neighbors dog barks all the ****ing time, my roomates never shut up when they are home, and all the background noise distracts and irritates me and effects my play.

Im not even going to be listening to music while I play, just want to grind with them on (id just wear ear plugs, but not hearing the poker sounds causes me to miss some action). Altho admittedly if im going to spend coin on a pair, im sure ill be using them in other venues as well, but im not super concered about how great the music quality is, since im too stupid to know any better and everything will sound better than the $20 headphones ive used my entire life.

Id also like them to be comfortable obviously, since ill be wearing them for hours at a time. Ear buds dont bother me at all, so if thats the best option im fine with those as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much

The M50s are a very highly regarded headphone in their price range. I owned a pair of the Pro700MK2s which are similar but have different cups and a removable cord. They were great for while I was at school as mostly listening to music on the go, but when I listened for extended periods of time my head would start hurting because the headband was too tight. Tried stretching them out, never solved the problem. Not sure if the M50s have the same headband, but something to consider.

These are my current pair, that I absolutely love:

In you want to do some further research, I'd recommend the following links:

If you don't wanna look into too much you should be pretty happy with the M50s, at least from a sound quality standpoint.

You could look for a pair with active noise cancelling, though some over ear headphones have pretty good isolation without it, what kind of $$ are you looking to spend? Look at the links I linked for Gonso, should be able to find some good options there.

Just wanted to give a big +1 to the Senhesier HD 280 Pro. These are by far the best headphones I've had, awesome sound quality and very comfortable. And the passive sound cancelling works better than active sound cancelling on other headphones I've tried. Only downside is they cost about 150-200$.

The Sennheiser HD25-1 II's are a big fav on Headfi, but nearly twice the price (if not a bit more)

God damn the mids and highs are sooooooooo good, jesus it's so sharp and i'm having multiple eargasms as I write this right now.

They're crushing my old er6i's. Am not disappointed.

Do not buy if you love booombooombwubuwubwuba bass tho

doing a bunch of research it seems the Bose headphones are prolly the most recommended for what I want. WTF? I thought Bose was supposed to be over priced stuff for headphones fish (least thats the impression ive gotten from skimming this thread).

I tried a pair of quiet comfort 15s on at a best buy, and was pretty impressed with how quit they were (sound quality didnt sound anymore amazing than $20 ear buds tho, and that was true with all the headphones I tried on. Was it just the source they were using?)

So im now kinda torn between just getting those, or possibly a pair of

Etymotic ER4PT

which from what ive read does maybe even a better job at eliminating noise than actual noise canceling headphones. But I have no way to test them out. And its a bit frustrating because it seems like so many reviews for headphones are just obvious spam crap, so its hard to know wtf to believe

thoughts??
