Noob here. Can anyone recommend something in the 40 dollar range for hip-hop/pop-punk/metal? I know this is kind of vague but I'm not too picky.

KSC-75

If you prefer in-ear, but can't go without the bass from cans, give these a check. Monster Turbine Pro. They're pretty expensive ($330cnd at Futureshop), but the bass is superb, and they also have some bling effect going on. Recommend replacing the tips with Sony Hybrid silicone earbuds (EP-EX10A) for much better fit/sound.

I also have Sennheiser PC350's for videogaming/skyping/music-during-poker and I find them to be pretty topnotch as well.

If anyone wants a free pair of UE SuperFi Pro 5's I have them. The caveat is the right side doesn't work. While at work I knelt down and the cable went under my knee and when I stood up the cable was jerked out of my ear. I thought maybe the cable was broken so I bought a Westone replacement; the left side works but the right still doesn't. I'll give you the stock cable since apparently it's fine. I think I have the case and the fit kit as well. They are out of warranty as of January. Free to anyone but you'll have to pay for shipping.

I could send them to UE for repair but I bought some Klipsch Custom 3's and Shure SE530's so I really don't need another pair anyhow.

skimmed thread but too lazy figure out what everyone is talking about

Looking for over the ear, closed headphones that are super comfortable. Willing to spend $200ish. They will primarily be used while I'm at my computer but I'll also be using them while traveling.(airplanes, naw' mean) Also they will potentially be used with an electic piano and/or electric guitar. I listen to a lot of different music genres. If anyone could just steer me in the right direction I'd be grateful

Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's. I have a pair and I've recommended them to others in this thread and they like them as well. Very comfortable and they sound great. I think they are the best over the ear in your price range.
05-24-2010 , 02:13 AM
those look nice but im assuming you need an amp with the 250ohm impedance. id take a look at the Shure SRH840 for general ipod/computer use.
05-24-2010 , 02:35 AM
They make an 80ohm which is what I have, and I don't think an amp is required for them.

I Suggest SoundMAGIC PL30
A truly value for money earphone is the SoundMAGIC PL30, which offers well balanced, accurate sound at a price that is hard to beat. The cabling is designed to run up and over the ears to the back of the neck, which means the earbuds stay very securely in your ear. This fit system works very well for sports use, although it does take a bit of practice to get the hang of - it really is worth the effort.
The SoundMAGIC PL30 is robustly built, with well made cables and good strain relief to protect the cabling from damage. The PL30 comes supplied with a handy travel case (small enough to put in a pocket) and plenty of different size ear tips to ensure you get a good in-ear fit. Comply Foam T-400 tips work with this earphone, which gives the best possible seal and noise isolation.
The PL30 has plenty of punch at the bass end and the clarity is exceptional in the trebles. Highly recommended.
Here is link of SoundMAGIC PL30 from Amazon:

Of course, if you don't want to buy the branded headphones, here is another link about non branded bass headphones from Sourcingmap:

Is there something wrong with the shape of my ears? I've only ever had one pair of earbud headphones that fit properly... they came with my first iPod in 2004, and by now the wires are fraying and they're falling apart.

I use a pair of Sennheiser Px100 headphones for most everything because all earbuds just fall the **** out. But it would be nice to have a pair of buds that actually fit for when I want to be able to stick them in my pocket or something.

I seriously just got another ipod touch from the full tilt store, and it came with earbuds that literally will not stay in my ears if I move my head at all.

I just got my Grado sr60i,I had gone through this thread and looked at some other reviews at other sites and came to the conclusion that these were what I was looking for.Cost 79$ free overnight shipping and that they work well with ipod(no amp).I have to say that they really sound excellent IMO.I do not find them uncomfortable as others have posted but I do think they are not the coolest looking but I was looking for sound quality.I am heading down to the series here soon and I could not be any happier knowing I will be listening to good quality sound while grinding out a bracelet. Thanks all for the recommendation,I am very happy with my purchase!

Hope you don't listen to your tunes too loud/don't care about pissing off your neighbor.

Just got a pair of Sennheiser IE8s in today... pure bliss.

Ya I really did not realize how much noise they throw out the open end design.I will probably not keep it up that loud and with all the chips rustling etc. that it will be much of an issue.I hope.I guess if it annoys someone I will just switch to earbuds but I hope it does not come to that because I really like the sound quality but your point is very valid.

I just bought some Philips SHE9550 for £20 and i can't believe how bad the sound quality is! I naively bought these headphones without doing any research, i just needed a quick cheap replacement for my broken sonys and picked up the first thing i could find in HMV. They sound tinny, distorted even at low volume, they hiss and the bass is non-existent despite the packageing claiming 'rich bass'. Rant over.

Anyway, this experience has led me to this thread.

Im looking for some in-ear headphones, no preference for closed or open. I listen to all sorts of music but would like a headphone that delivers good bass and i will be using them for walking / running mostly. I also don't want anything bright, just black and simple. My budget is around £30

Can you recommend some good ear buds please.

Looking over the thread im thinking of buying the Sennheiser CX 300s. good choice?

Thanks

One good thing about Grados is they sound good with the volumn low.

Klipsch S4 but that might be a bit above your budget. Are you sure you mean in-ear? They are always closed unless you get something like a custom with an ambient vent drilled in. If there's some flexibility the KSC-75 is a great buy and sounds awesome. Running with an in-ear might be dangerous as well, as you lose your hearing pretty much.

Beats by Dre is supposed to come out with a new model this june, beats by dre pro. Hopefully they deliver. I think they look kinda promising,

I'm not to familiar with higher end headphones. One thing im curious about is how handle the weak analog signal from an iPod and such? To me it's seems like they'd would have to amplify the signal to get it to sound good. I know that Beats by Dre Studio requires 2 batteries so I guess they solve it that way. But the new model doesn't seem to require batteries. How do other earphones handle this? Or is the signal from small mp3-players strong enough?
